Title: world of tanks.
Post by: Tyrannis on December 07, 2010, 02:18:51 PM
hey guys, i just started playing this today. any good players out there that can give me some advice?

took me forever to finally get the hang of the targeting system, and the matchmaking is HORRIBLE.

(my first match, i was in a t1 cunningham, just cruising down the road, litterly ran INTO a tiger 2 hiding in a bush. my tiny 37mm vs his 88, you can pretty much guess who won. crappyiest first playthrough ive ever had on any game  :(
)

currently i have a T2 medium tank, trying to save up for ether a spgt57 or medium tank RAM-2

Also, if you ever need help the Aces High Channel has a few people on it (FlameWarriors.net users have their own too) that are willing to platoon up and help.  Ghosth started the channel a few weeks ago for any AHers. :)

lol dont buy any premium tanks or premium ammo bro.  Save the gold so you can buy a premium account(gives you 50% more xp and credits per battle).

If you want to enjoy the game, I recommend going heavy route while keeping money making tank to support heavy. Do not buy premium ammo or tanks. Premium account would help leveling you up.

Not really an advantage, and it doesn't really "cost" anything.
Cost 250 gold for a day, 750 for a week and 1200 for a month or something like that and everyone gets 150 gold a day automatically (only way to get gold). On Premium you'll earn a little more (1.5x) XP and Silver per battle (good for expensive to run tanks) but not really an advantage over other players.  More of patient people (due to having to wait for the gold to accumulate) will get to a new tank/module a little faster.  Spinnich uses Premium far more than me but only has ~28,000 more XP (enough for a Tier 7 engine and gun at most), we're the same tier and have about the same amount of battles.

As for Premium tanks, it depends on how you play.  I own a Panzer 38H (tier 2 premium) and it's basically the best Tier 2 tank and is a great XP maker (Have had matches where I made ~2,200) and is so cheap to upkeep it can earn a little money quickly. :D

go the russian medium line, T-44 is uber. also, if you want a good credit maker, the M4A1 makes bout 20K profit if you hit something

Premium is 2500 gold for a month. It gives you increases in experience points and credits earned.

The only premium tank I've seen worth the gold is the German Pz38H735t for 750 gold (5 days worth). It ends up in battles where it belongs, it does well, and it earns well. I'd certainly get one, even before I got on premium, and use it to learn in, as it really is a good little tank, the only real weakness is the slow top speed, and weak acceleration. I've still got mine, and when the game goes live, I'll seriously consider getting one.

You will really want to be on premium when you get to the heavy tanks, as they are expensive to run if the battle doesn't go well for you. I wouldn't wait any longer than right after I got the Pz38H735t to save up for a month of premium, and then stay on premium.

The best "money makers", provided you have the patience and talents to make them work, are the artillery pieces. My Hummel is a decent earner in even a bad match. But artillery doesn't usually make experience points real well, especially not experience.

I've found the Sherman, although it is short on armor and firepower, actually does well if you use it as a highly mobile sniper, and avoid slugging matches. I have a Sherman Easy 8 now, and I really like it. It really needs a 90MM tier VII gun option, but it does okay as it is.

My PzIV has to be the best tank I have for ease of play as well as credit and experience farming. I went back and bought my PzIV to earn experience for the Hummel, but it was so good I kept it.

The tank destroyers are a tough deal. They're really handicapped in the city battles, and a couple of other battles that lack cover, such as Karelia. I have a JagdPanther now, and it does fairly well, in the right battle. In the wrong battle, well, you can come close to losing credits on it.

Possibly the best all around medium may be the VK3601H. I do well in mine most of the time, although it is parked right now while I work on the U.S. tree.

While I really like my Tiger II, I'm not sure I'd tell anyone to get one. You really have to play it carefully, as a cautiously aggressive sniper. Honestly, the Russian IS series is far easier to play.

I think everything I own now has the top tier equipment available for it, and all but the Easy 8 Sherman, and maybe one other have 100% crews working on their 1st or 2nd secondary skill.

Honestly, playing WoT is not much different than AH II, with regards to the fact that situational awareness is your most vital skill.

Finding people to team up with in battle is a really good thing, as running with a good platoon will teach you a lot. However, not very many players have kept a lower tier tank, so you either can't run with them, or you get dragged into battles where you're at such a disadvantage that you're a burden to the team. I kept my little tank, but I'm in the middle of remodeling my house and getting ready for a trade show, so I haven't played much in two weeks.

Getting on the flamewarriors channel is a good idea, there are usually 10-20 guys on that channel on a given night, U.S. time.

Also you can work on multiple tanks at once; if you die you do not need to stick around and watch a match, unless you enjoy that, but you can exit battle and fight in other tank.
My money maker right now is SU14 with big boom sticks. Last match I made 60K :D

It's a game mechanic based on your tanks view range and the Commanders skill. It's not going to change.

Artillery is a great moneymaker at any level. Get one and it will help you learn how to avoid it. Higher tiers are slow going, and will only ever pay off when maxed out, which can take a while. My favourites are the SU-14 with its cannon o' doom and my elite tiger, my tiger 2 is coming on slowly and even though its still poorly equipped it will make a lot of players back off.

The opposite can happen to your tiger II Minke. I have an IS-3 and I swear it has a big "SHOOT ME" sign above it, there is constantly watermelon bouncing off me everywhere.

ok so when i see him at 300 then he blinks out and i see him blink back in at 100 and kills me, why would he vanish when he gets closer and not further away?   im 100% on all my guys, been playing sense it started

once a tank was right next to me, i watched him blink out i could see trees falling and a building being hit but no tank  then he blinked in further away and shot me
