Title: Wireless router help

I could use some help on picking up a new router. I'm currently using a Linksys 2.4GHz broadband router. My son plays Xbox 360 online and can't play in his bedroom because he can't get a signal for the internet. Why? I have no clue. Obviously I'm not all that hip on computer related stuff

My house is ranch style with just one floor with a crawlspace. His bedroom is the furthest away from the router. I really don't wanna by an 100 foot ethernet cable so what should I do?

Post by: Tec on December 07, 2010, 06:37:25 PM: He gets no signal, or he just can't connect? If it's the former do you have a laptop or other wireless device that you can take into his room and see if you can detect the signal?

Post by: AAJagerX on December 07, 2010, 06:52:41 PM: For online gaming, you'll need a N+ router. Not as good as hardwired, but it'll do. Ya should be able to pick one up for less than $100.

Make sure that your kid has the wireless adapter for the 360 as well. I don't know for sure, but I think you have to buy that seperately (from the 360).

My son just said that can connect in his bedroom but the signal strength is so weak that it kicks him offline. My son does have his own laptop computer and he can connect and stay online in his bedroom. Thanks so far fellas with the help.

Post by: phatzo on December 07, 2010, 07:39:12 PM: Iff you have a timber floor and can get under the house, use a spade bit to put an appropriate sized hole in the floor at the router and in his room then run the cable under there out of eyesore and puppies way.
