Jet week in the AVA
Korea
While this setup is in no way, even close, it will
give you a bit of background and will be a fun setup.
the planes we need are not available, so this is as
close as we could get. while not realistic as far as planes
go, it should be a fun setup for all. Merry christmas from
the AVA staff and crew!
Special thanks go out to skuzzy for getting this terrain up
in time for this week and to Easyscor for making it.
The Korean War was the first conflict in which jet aircraft
fought each other. (Both the Luftwaffe and the RAF had
operational jets in WWII, but they never came into
direct conflict.) Most jet battles took place near the
Yalu River, in the airspace over north-western North Korea
known as "MiG alley." The UN forces generally retained
air superiority throughout most of the war, and air
power helped compensate for the Communists' superior
numbers on the ground.
The general lack of permanent runways in Korea
hindered the use of jet aircraft and bombers,
forcing the Allies to use piston aircraft.
The F-51 Mustang was the most numerous Allied
aircraft in the early months of the war.
In November of 1950, the first of the MiG-15
aircraft appeared, and was able to outperform
all Allied fighters until the introduction of
the F-86 Sabre. The Sabre was arguably slightly
inferior to the MiG-15, but the veteran American
pilots eventually produced a kill ratio of
approximately 12:1 in their favour. Many of
these aerial dogfights took place in the
northwestern corner of Korea, a place given
the name 'Mig Alley' by Allied pilots.

Unperked jets should draw a lot of newer folks who have no perks.
Anyone who has flown for awhile should find lots of fodder.

the easiest target is there M-W CST Monday through Wednesday every week :devil

it was great :rolleyes:. The second you find another player and he's even slightly at a disadvantage.... he drops the nose and runs, and with no icons, he's gone in 3 seconds.
I had to chase people (5 in all) back to their base and hang in their ack at 250 IAS with flaps out, before they would engage me.
Sad, because this was one of the better ideas that have been floated over there in AvA. I won't be back. <S> Again, it's not the game, but rather the people playing it, that SUCK.

i dunno where you found runners, unless it was one of a certain three......one of them doesn't even run. i had almost constant fights last night...no runners whatsoever. i even got a kill on an rv8, which is hard as hell to hit at 400mph.
in fact...reference this thread.....you'll notice all low alt knife fights here.....

I didn't see any runners. There were very few in there however.
Frame rate of 12 with no icons is tough on the brain.
They should have Yak9U, IL2 and P-51 enabled as well. It is Korea, right?

have you tried turning down graphics to help your frame rate?

I was just curious, it being Korea. I used to like shooting down MiGs with P-51s in AW.
Frame rate is my comp. I'm running 256, everything off. No icons is tough. :aok
Luckily, on one sortie, I could remember which 262 was the enemy and which wasn't.

well if it helps any, the no icons only takes a few hours to get used to. you will(or already have) found out that camouflage works very very well.
the key is to stay above the "zoom" altitude of your enemy.....or to be lower than he is. co-alt or lower than the enemy, they're easy to spot. they;'re also easy to spot over the water.
