Title: Need a new hard-drive ?
Post by: Staga on February 10, 2001, 09:02:00 PM
My old 6,5 Gigs Seagate was getting small so I thought maybe I should buy a new HD.
After some reading I bought IBM's 45gig GXP and that really is a good bargain (160$ here).
I did some tests after I installed that HD to my system and took couple screenshots. Program I did use to benchmark is SiSoft Sandra 2001 Professional.

First I noticed my system boots up in half time compared what it took earlier  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

In first pic is my old Seagate (UDMA33/5400rpm)

and heres the new IBM GXP (UDMA100/7200rpm)

Guess next step is set up a IDE-raid; Mobo already have a controller for that  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'd say that's the main problem with my system right now.  I'm still using an old WD 8.4Gb Udma 33 HD.  I want to get one of those IBM drives eventually.

Quick question, does it happen to come with a utility to copy my old drive to the new one?  Norton Ghost is basically what I'm looking for, but I don't have a copy of it.  I don't really want to start from scratch all over again.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Get a static RAM drive, only about $500 a gig!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I just ordered that same exact hard drive. My 4.3 gig and 8.6 gig weren't cutting it anymore.

Ok, I did it.  I went out and bought the 45 gig IBM drive myself.

Here's the result:

My computer is almost 2 times as fast! (Not joking.)  I can't even hear this drive.

What MB do you have Staga?  (I'm using the Asus a7v with the brand new 1006 bios. It REALLY improved memory and drive performance.)
