Yes, Windows 7 64 bit is going to randomly crash.  It is crashing in the Windows kernel, which is a place we cannot fix.  It only happens with the 64 bit version of Windows 7.  The 32 bit version seems ot be fine.

Damn You Windows!

...thank you.

Still seems 'fishy' to me as I've been using Win7 64 for well over a year now and have NEVER experienced an AH crash that wasn't preceded with the "Lost UDP, Switching to TCP" message, and even that has only happened maybe twice...

It has something to do with the hardware and software combinations.  We can reliably crash Windows 7 64 bit, but it is always in the kernel, which is something we cannot fix.

Okay, just had to read a little to figure out exactly what a Kernel is.  So the problem is Window's communication with Aces High is crashing in the Kernal for whatever reason.  Does this mean that shutting down background programs and such isn't going to have any direct benefit to this problem?  Regardless of how clean my computer is running, this problem will continue?

The "kernel" is the heart and soul of an operating system.  No application should be able to cause it to crash.  I have not seen something like this since Windows 95.

It is not the normal applications crash.  The crash takes down the operationg system or renders it very, very unstable.  It reminds me of the Windows 95 days.

Just a couple of questions....Is this a reasonably recent occurance?.....if yes...do you use or have you just updated Game booster?....I ask because ever since I installed the new version of game booster I crash once every login...I am planning to re load the older version this I have this weekend, just to check but I never (other that a game sounds issue) crashed and now...as I say, once everytime I log in....Game booster has gone commercial and I found that it doesn't allow the same options unless you buy now...and it also has a security feature that installs......

Be Aware though, my knowledge of a PC's working doesn't extend too far...just thought I'd ask the question..could be who knows...

I don't a game booster.  It would happen on occasion but when it happened two nights in a row I thought I'd seek help.

Sorry to disagree with you on the windows 7 64 bit version Skuzzy, but I have been running windows 7 64 for over a year now and I have never had it crash.

Jayhawk did you note what was happening before each crash? IE was it happening in the same way each time and under the same circumstances?

Well it's been a couple of days now, so I can't remember for sure.  One was shortly after a drop on strat.  Bombs had already fell and hit the target, we were just turning out.  I can't remember the second.

I've had quite a few crashes to desktop lately. It seems to be on the Compello map.
I'm running 32bit Windows 7 with no hardware changes for the past year.

Title: Re: Crashing Game
Post by: Skuzzy on December 20, 2010, 10:01:45 AM
Sorry to disagree with you on the windows 7 64 bit version Skuzzy, but I have been running windows 7 64 for over a year now and I have never had it crash.

Jayhawk did you note what was happening before each crash? IE was it happening in the same way each time and under the same circumstances?

RTR

And, again, not everyone is experiencing it.  Yet, there is no rhyme or reason as to why some do and others do not.  Our system here readily crashes and yet it will run Vista without any problems.  Go figure.  It is most perplexing and does not adhere to the normal rules of logic.

It is most perplexing and does not adhere to the normal rules of logic.

LOL! yep, that sounds about right!

It does sound like a problem with hardware and software combinations, like you said.

Odd.

I'll post a dxdiag here, as my system seems to run flawlessly in AH, just for comparisons sake.

cheers,
RTR

What is strange is you are using the default Microsoft sound drivers, instead of the native sound drivers.  It should be unstable, as installing the native sound drivers have fixed several people who are crashing in 64bit Win 7.

Like I said, it is perplexing.

I have had the same problem occur twice within the last week.  I can fly several hours with no issue then suddenly AH freezes (black screen with sound stuck) followed by the fatal error/notify Microsoft message.  Been flying for over a year with my current system, no changes, and not so much as a hiccup till the latest patch.  Both crashes occurred while flying and not firing.  One crash occurred in a ME163 attacking 7 formations of B-24s.  The other crash occurred last night while fighting near two enemy CVs sailing side by side.  I also have participated in several large raids with no problems.  Feels like maybe a memory leak, but not very consistent.  My system is using WindowsXP Home with ATI Radeon HD 5700 video card.

Same symtoms I have had.  Except I am not getting the several hours of play.
