Title: Sun
Post by: MachFly on December 12, 2010, 02:40:17 AM
Can we have a new sun?

I hope I don't need to explain why.

Do you mean in terms of lighting?  Because I think that would require a new graphics engine, and would require quite a bit of work...  However, I have been wrong before.

One of the cooler effects available in most games (in my opinion) is something called "bloom."  This effect basically simulates the bleed effect around bright objects and makes them look very real.  I think this effect could make bright objects and reflections look a bit more convincing.  It does take a bit of power for the computer to render, but in every case I've seen, light bloom was an optional effect.

No, I mean the image of the sun, so it would be round 100% of the time and not have a chunk cut off. Also I do not like seeking the sun tunnel though mountains.

That's been a persistent bug that HTC has been after for a while. It's been brought up quite a bit.

The sun needs to be shrunk down to 1/10th of its current size.  When you look up at the sun IRL, it doesn't appear to be bigger than a basketball.

It also needs to not be centered at your altitude. It's absurd when flying at 15,000ft and the sun clears the "horizon" well above the ground.

This post made me LOL. Exactly how big does a basketball appear?

Also the sun is made bigger then then in real life to have more of an effect when coming out of the sun to attack. That is simply because a monitor does not have the contrast of sun to ambient light that the real world does.

The sun and moon both have the same angular size. That size is very close to your thumb nail size with your arm fully extended.

Other then through mountains I have no idea what you are trying to describe.

With my setup (19", 1280x1024) the ingame sun is only barely larger than the nail of my thumb with arm extended.

Yet, it's never directly above, always fairly low on horizon....and it utterly blinds everything everything on half your view when its VERY low on horizon. I would gladly expend perks on Raybans

You're on at the wrong times per day?  You never look up?  I'm trying to think of a better way to answer this but honestly Brotha, I have issue with the fact that when I look up, I am blinded.   :D

I would have posted this in the bug section but I know we had this for years therefore I assume it's not a bug.

You'll forgive me for not knowing......... Is warhed a Squadie or just Country?

I don't like the contrast of dark blue....... So I use Aqua for Country, much easier on the eyes looking down on grasslands or ocean.   :aok

EDIT:  Yes, I know..... The sky used to be a problem but subtle changes to it makes it nice.......    :x

Channel: Blue
Mission: Yellow
Wingman: Pink (Just an easy color that stands out)

What's the setting for Aqua?

these pictures are actually the "horizon" for the sun. the sun is always level horizonwise with your plane, whether it is at 15k or 0. If you sit at 0ft you wont see this...

Any time the sun is low on the water, both it and the horizon get chopped up as well.
