HTC this isn't a rant or anything but I was wondering, why is the aack so lethal. I used to be a full time Stuka pilot, and can't even be one anymore because of the lethality of aacks. I even got shot with a 1 shot kill.
Thanks
Sincerely, Steiner <S>

If anything, I think it got weaker. It use to shoot full auto, now it shoots in bursts.

true, but remember when u could put like 4 taters in a single engine plane and see it fly off?

Not sure how that relates to this but that was a bug that has since been fixed.

They ugraded the big caliber rounds to hit harder

Not correct at all, there was a bug in how certain planes received damage not the damage the 30mm inflicted.

There was a patch that increased the power of high explosive rounds

oyu can see the rounds look bigger and they been hitting harder, and and more accurete and further out,u almost have to go 1 k just to get away from the ack.just to stop hitting you.
-
Why you fools hijack a legitimate question is beyond me.........
-
They ugraded the big caliber rounds to hit harder
This was the note from the patch:
Fixed a general damage problem present on many planes that would allow some hits to fuselage guns to absorb all damage without any of the damage going to the fuselage. This would be most noticeable when hit with a large caliber high damage weapon.
Unless you are talking about something else, but go ahead and find the patch notes to prove me wrong.

Sorry, I hardly call it a legitimate question, why is ack so lethal? He bases it off of his feeling about it with no evidence to back it up, I was correcting someone who I believe is making an incorrect statement. Why you feel the need to comment on that without actually responding to the OP either is beyond me.

Ic that's what a read, but doesn't help the damage with all big bullets

Want to clarify what you mean by this, I can't understand it.

I was just trying to make him feel at home..... :D

But as for your explanation......... 100% correct, as you have shown from the release notes. Not sure why that other guy is trying to argue with you Bro. :aok

The ack isn't that lethal when you learn how to fly through it. Come in with alot of speed while making your pass. Stay low and fast until you get well enough out of range, then climb up.
The ack has always been able to take someone out with one hit but the chances of that happening are greatly reduced doing it the way I just described.
Don't squads teach this kind of thing anymore? :headscratch:
-
I dunno what the OP is talking about. I got hit in fuselage several times by field ack last night. No one hit kills, no major damage, and still flew away to fight some more.
-
I would guess you were flying through with plenty of speed. Steiner on the other hand trys to lumber in at 120mph in a JU87 and then has no idea why he's in the tower, except if must be HTC jacking with the ack settings.
-
If a 30mm low-velocity HE shells= consistent 1 shot kills, why do you think something is wrong when a 37mm high-velocity HE shell 1 shot kills you?
-
People Im talking about the aack hitting dive bombers. I can easily pass it in a fighter, but it really hurts dive bombers...
-
There was a patch that increased the power of high explosive rounds
The patch was a fix on the fuselages of certain planes that weren't registering hits from large caliber rounds like cannon rounds.

Fighters are much faster than divebombers, in addition to having a much smaller surface area to hit.

So you want the acks lethality lowered so you don't get killed? Sad.

Steiner, provide film so we can see what you're doing. What are your targets, do you have a planned exit, are you starting your dive above the ack, are flying through the least amount of ack during your passes?
The dive bombing clinic last week would have really helped you I think.
-
Manned ack? Auto ack? Puffy ack? Field ack? Ship ack?
When not getting annihilated by manned puffy ack I have managed to bomb ships and live.
wrongway
-
Right on Wrongway! And why do you survive most of the time? Because you've learned how to approach and exit your target. :aok
-
Best thing Felix if you can't go fast. And you're not gonna go fast in a Stuka. First off. Get your Stuka to 15 -16k, throttle off, vertical dive on tgt to 10k, no less than 8k pull out. You will make it to bomb another day. In other words, stay out of Ack range, if you can.

My apologies Felix for the flamers of Aces High. You have a valid question but it seems that the previous responses fail to address the real issues your question brings to light.
While the other post may be correct in noting the changes in the modeling, I sense your issue is how the stuka can be such a failure in AH. I dont know what your typical drop altitude is, but real life pilots came into their targets at much higher alts than the typical AH players.
In RL it was important to hit your target, but pilots were not usually in a situation were unduly risking the plane and pilot were secondary to hitting the target. Especially during the Stukas hay day. There would likely be more chances hit the target again. So I believe that drops were from higher alts than we typically see and the density of AA guns at the target was a factor. And if any pilot in real life dove so close to the ground as we do, it was most likely an error in judgement or an imperative need to hit the target.
This article http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/sb.htm on the US scout bombers states "the aircraft was put into a vertical or near-vertical dive at an altitude 15 000 to 20 000 feet and aimed directly at the target. Bomb release usually took place at about 3000 feet, after which the aircraft made a high-g dive recovery..." I dont know the Stukas specifics, but I am sure it is similar.
Another issue at the heart of your question is AHs war format. As things are, without more cooperation between team mates in AH it is nearly impossible to employ bombers as they were in RL and survive to return to base.
In short, climb higher, drop higher, and try to put together highly organized and well executed missions for your Stuka.
Good Luck!

Hmm, maybe because I coded them that way?
Also think of what your dive bomber would look like to an ack gunner. It is almost the same as if you are coming in at a tank which most people know is an easy shot. You make a very nice target that requires very little lead.
