Well for some replying here I beilieve that the OP was looking for a list going much farther back than the last 15-20 years as he stated "Ever in History" so I will reply with some that I have heard that go way back and up to fairly comtemporary times.

Not Necessarily in this order:

Enrico Caruso

Billy Holiday

Toss up between

Frank Sinatra , Elvis or Pavoratti  But I think Pavoratti has them on his Range and Depth...

Just my thoughts,

Rap? Is that what that ungodly noise is coming from the obnoxious car next to me with the bass turned ALL THE WAY UP?

The very same "music" that has all it's singers go to prison for pot, drugs, women, "fame," mun3y and "street cred?"

That is five steps BELOW elevator music, my friend. Sorry  :lol

Although not all of it is horrible, most (99%) of it is.

yea, you know....the car that's worth about $250 with a $3,000 system in it, and $2,000 worth of wheels.....and the base is making more buzzy noises than anything, since all of the parts falling off are vibrating from that crap.

yea, you're right.......blondie did a little rap in one song that sounded ok.

Elevator music can be AWESOME, if you ride the right elevator with the right people!... Don't ask.

Agreed.

OP : I couldn't form a list of best singers of all time, I listen to such a wide variety of music that it'd be impossible to choose.

Robert Plant often forgot lyrics live.  Because of that fact, he loses major points.  He doesn't possess much of a vocal range either.

Not horrible. It's just not pretty (the way blues music should be).

Sounds just like Janis Joplin.

Robert Plant often forgot lyrics live.  Because of that fact, he loses major points.  He doesn't possess much of a vocal range either.

Towards the end of Zep's run he also couldn't reliably hit the high notes live and they would play them in a lower key. If you watch/listen to The Song Remains the Same I think you can hear it.
