Good mood or bad, it doesn't matter. I can always listen to this song and enjoy it. :aok Its a song about music and how it makes you feel. It makes you think of all the great things that you have experienced because of music, so I ask how could it not be the best song ever made?

I think statistically speaking. This is the most popular song ever recorded.
The Guinness Book of World Records 2009 Edition lists the song as a 100-million seller, encompassing all versions of the song, including albums. The original version, recorded in only 18 minutes was first released in 1949. It has never been out of print since.
It was listed as the world's best-selling single in the first-ever Guinness Book of Records (published in 1955) and - remarkably - still retains the title more than 50 years later."

I think it's clearly one of these, considering how many covers have been made of all of them...
They've perpetually entered the American consciousness... timeless, all of them.

Wow, this thread has devolved into the sharing of 70's bubblegum anthems under the guise of "Best song ever made".
I'm dumbfounded.
Perhaps there really is no hope after all.
-
Ha suggest some hanson then melvin I listen to everything from type o negative to sweet...its all good but you apparently think different
-
Sweet is hardly "bubblegum".
-
Sweet is hardly "bubblegum".
But "Fox on the Run" most certainly is. Try again.
Edit:Instead of bashing other's contributions, I'm going to think about this tonight and will submit what I believe to be the top 5-10 songs of all time. Then you may take turns bashing me. :aok
<S> Melvin
-
You have a narrow concept of music. Sweet was not a bubblegum band, nor was the song. In fact, the song barely charted.
You'd get along with gyrene.
-
I never said drowning pool was "hardcore" and i never meant for it to be. I just like the fat guy exploding :lol

1812 ftw :rock
Is it bad if I like both? I enjoy most cover songs, some more then their original counterparts. I enjoy Bad Co.s Bad Co. but FFDP Bad Co. isnt bad imo. Now a truly great cover is Killswitch Engage's Holy Diver! Dio's is great, but I think Killswitch Engage just totally tossed a gallon of fuel on the fire and brought it to life! Just my opinion though. :noid

Quite frankly, this is not a question that can be answered in one sitting. In my estimation it would take years to even consider cracking a top 100 list.
I sat down and rattled off 7 before I realized that this is pointless.
Anyway, love 'em or hate 'em, here are some of what I would consider "best" songs.
Metallica: One
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM8bTdBs-cw
Star Spangled Banner: I used the Jimi version to spice it up a bit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD9DR40-m4U
Greatful Dead: Touch of Grey (almost picked "Brokedown Palace")

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here
