Hi Mates
I am totally in awe of you young folks making those super skins. As an old Army airplane driver whose hobby is WWII, you all are just the greatest.
I have been in AH since beta and a bunch of years in WB before that.
I fly with 249RAF and my favorite rides are the Spit 9, and the P51B.
There is only one RAF P51B skin that is getting kind of old. Could one of you guys make another one, say a 1944 model with invasion stripes?
I, among others, would really appreciate this kind favour.
Very best regards to you all.
Merry Christmas

There are many folks that would also enjoy some new skins on the P-51s. The problem is that there are only 15 slots for skins, and about 50,000 planes made and flown in WW2.
As it is, HTC doesn't want to see any more P-51 skin submissions because they already have too many. They don't rotate them often, but they have a huge backlog that is already "in rotation" and they don't want any more added to it.
I don't mean to disappoint, but I thought you might not know.

Is that true of the B model? Thought it was the D that's overloaded?

I thought it was both.

I thought it was both.
Yup. Pretty sure it's both.

As well as some of the 47s and the P-38s, too (I think).

Possibly some 109s and *maybe* the B-17/B-24.

51B is definitely backlogged. About a year ago I submitted a B (Bald Eagle) and was told it might be a year before there's a chance to see it in game. A year's gone by and....
so I definitely think the 51B is a bit overfilled as well. =)

Thats ok, your skins suck, just like your flying! :neener:

Just because it's full doesn't mean they've stopped accepting them. The cases mentioned (P-51s, etc) just have SOOOOO much backlog they stopped. Whereas the P-40E is full but only has maybe a couple backlogged.

Hi Mates
Many thanks for the responses.
Perhaps one day. Hope I am still around.
Cheers and Merry Christmas

The last D skin I submitted Skuzzy said there would be a 12-24mo wait iirc, and a 12-18 mo wait for the B Model. But they were still accepting them.
Majors, I'm currently working on a B Pony skin, but if you can find good quality pictures, and squadron info, I'd be more that happen to work on and RAF bird for you. Also if there is a link to the website were you located the picture from, that would be helpful. If you want to PM me the info, I'll start after this one.

I don't see one. The only 249 skin I see is a spit 5.
Which 249Sq. 51-B was in the game? GN-V?

Hi Mates
When flying with 249RAF, we fly Spits. Otherwise, I fly a 51B the rest of the time.
WWII Aviation has been a hobby for over 30 years. I have an extensive library devoted to markings of allied aircraft.
I have a lot of info on USAAF 51B's but not a lot on RAF. I have Aircam Aviation Series No. 3 which covers Mustangs in foreign service WWII to the 1970's.
It has a number of RAF 51B's. I will endeavor to scan some of the pics and attach them to this.
Cheers and Happy New Year.

Here are a couple I have...

Squadron Leader Jack te Kloot No. 249 Sqn, Canne, Italy, 28 September 1944
"On 21 September 1944, a quartet of Mustang Ills from the recently equipped No 249 Sqn flew to a landing ground dubbed 'Piccadilly Peggy' in northern Greece that had been prepared by Partisans. Here, appropriately attired in his bush hat, Sqn Ldr Jack te Kloot (the unit's Australian CO) supervises the bedding down of his aircraft at 'Piccadilly Peggy' by the local partisans."

"Mustang III HB952/GN·F of Sqn Ldr J te Kloot,No 249 Sqn, Canne, Italy, 28 September 1944. Although he made no air-to-air claims, No 249 Sqn CO Jack te Kloot took a heavy toll of enemy aircraft during strafing attacks. Flying this aircraft on 28 September 1944, he led a highly profitable attack on Salonika airfield, where he personally destroyed a Ju 52/3m, an Italian aircraft and an He 111, as well as damaging a Go 242 glider. Later in the mission his aircraft took a cannon hit in the wing, and he was lucky to return. This ended a very successful week for him, as in two sorties over Greece a few days earlier he had destroyed five more Ju 52/3ms. "

"Sqn Ldr Jack te Kloot flew the final mission of his tour as CO of No 249Sqn in GN-V on 2 December 1944 when he led an attack on a road bridge near Bioce. Moresignificantly, the fighter had also been flown by Fit Lt R F Noble when he had shared in the destruction of the last aircraft claimed by the squadron on 31 October. At the end of his tour Jack te Kloot was awarded the DSO."

No. 249 Squadron? I think that is what he asked for.

Think he's looking for the wing camo pattern that wouldn't be seen under invasion stripes. This might help. From the Tamiya Mustang III kit

Hi Mates
Excellent material on 249 Mustangs. I scanned some material on 112RAF "Sharkmouth" Squadron. However, I have no idea how to attached it to this message. Us old soldiers can fly airplanes, but have not figured all of the tricks with this message board.
Please help. Never mind, I think I found something in additional options. However, it looks like I can just send one attachment at a time. It times out. So here goes the first one.
Thanks and Cheers

Hmmmm. Third scan keeps timing out. What's with that? Infernal Bloody machine!!!

Hi Majors, great thread old chap!
I believe that the solution would be to increase the number of skins slots to a higher number that would allow all the skins to be added...
Keep up the good work!

Stripes you want? Stripes you get.

Hi Mates
Very nice information. Many thanks indeed. I would like to see any of these with invasion stripes on AH. Also, would be great to have a model of the 249RAF Mustang III as well.
Here's hoping someday we'll see on of these here.
Cheers

I know this is a very long shot but I've learned in life that if you don't ask, you don't get, so here I am asking if anybody knows where that photograph of Jack te Kloot and his Mustang P51B can be found, and if possible a better quality copy of it obtained? I ask because I have not seen a photograph of my Queensland godfather before I stumbled over this photo. Dad never talked about the war and I was too young when I was introduced to Jack to remember him.
Regards (in hope)
