Title: Z buffer
Post by: Manedew on April 18, 2001, 12:06:00 PM
Was looking into getting 3d gameing glasses to use with z buffer, but couldn't find any after I looked in three stores  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)
Just wonder if someone knows a good brand & spot to buy on web? And if it's worth my time & money?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

S!

Hmm..They MIGHT be of consideration if You have a monitor capable doing refresh rates above 100Hz at 1024x768.That is what they recommend at least for most enjoyable experience. But otoh the glasses also cause head ache and "stix in the eyes"-feeling if prolonged use during gameplay.
Just waiting to them get a bit cheaper and userfriendly.

I wouldn't bother with the glasses.  You have to have a super monitor to use them without getting an uber-hangover class headache.  Not only that, but using z-buffer in AH causes some odd graphics bugs and severely cuts FPS.

Just so you know, for the glasses to work you must run your monitor at 2x the resolution you want to play the game at.  In addition your refresh rate must be AT LEAST 100 Hz at that resolution.  No less than an expensive 19" monitor would be required to play at 640x480, since you have to run at at 1280x960 at a minimum of 100 Hz, and you will want at least 150Hz to not get a headache.

Yeah, I have a pair of cheapies I picked up just for the heck of it.  The problem is they cut your refresh rate in half and your resolution in half.  I have to drop down to 800x600 so I can get a 150mhz refresh rate (any lower and you can see the screen draw, very irritating), but since every other line is for one eye or the other, you can actually see the missing lines with each eye in that resolution.

Still, even with all the faults, it is pretty neat flying through hangars offline.  Online I can't read icons or dogfight at all though.
