-
Right on!

Ive shot some really big deer, with really big racks, but i honestly think if i shot one that big, they would have to drag me out of the woods as well.......i would definatley have a coronary!!
-
The lucky bastige! I've wanted a non typical my whole life. That is a once in a life time trophy!
-
How many points?
What does it score? Is he getting it done as we speak? :aok
-
I still don't get it...
-
What's not to get? A big non-typical like that?
-
Very nice. :aok
-
Be interested to see what kind of money he gets offered for it.

38 points, did not get the score on it yet.
Steroids :old:

This is cause by a over abundance of testosterone and cells. Mostly from foraging on crops and fertilizer.

NICE! :x

Horny lil bastage....

Personally I understand the whole hunting thing and all that... but what I don't get is the need to post pictures of a dead corpse ESPECIALLY dripping blood all over the place. I guess you'd have to be a hunter to appreciate that sort of thing but I simply find it disgusting.
ESPECIALLY when lured in with the hopes of seeing a nice set of racks!

It is the antlers that made the post interesting. Antlers like these are rare to find, less then 1% of the deer population to develop such a "freak of nature".

I obviously think that this buck is an amazing sight, but i didn't think it was that rare, if it is SO rare, then why kill it? let the genes be passed on to make more deer like this.
-
Non typical antlers are very common on Whitetail deer.
Non typical antlers of that size arent. But then again, typical antlers of that size and mass arent an everyday occurance also.
From what ive read, its Genetics, injury and food that can result in antlers like those. Regarding passing along those genes, i think it would actually be better to get it out of the gene pool. Ive heard stories (friend is a PA game Warden) of a deer that actually died as a result of deformed antlers growing down into its neck, becoming infected and actually killing the deer.
-
I don't hunt, but the mere sight of a deer such as that lets me know that the population is healthy and that there are big deer still out there to see.

A lot of hunters would kill a deer just for antlers like that. It just a way for them to show was a big man then are. I do agree with you about not shooting it. In fact, there is a organization that is pushing hunters to not kill then big deer so it can pass its genes.
A non typical antler is common but for one to be this extreme is rare.

seeing a deer like the one in the pic has no relations to the deer population.

In Kentucky, the deer population went from being near non-existent to being a very successful in a matter of a couple years. This may not mean much to you, but to me, it lets me know that they are alive and well.

I am aware of what the state of Kentucky has been doing to get the population back up. From what i have read, their program has been vary succesfal not only for deer, but also for beaver, otters, bear and other mammal and birds. :aok
Why would you think that something like this i would not care?

This. Although it doesn't have a huge relationship with the health of the population; it is still nice to know that deer can still become monsters like this one :aok

It is a nice looking deer. Alters like these are develop from over abundance of hormones from foraging crops. This is not a natural growth nor do i not know if it is possible for deer to have such a exstream growth like this. It is possible for deer to have huge normal antlers and body.
-
I don't see anything that makes this deer out of the ordinary besides it's non-typical (huge) rack. Non-typicals can happen naturally, as well as with mutations.

I agree with UpTown , Lucky Bastige !!! and don't even have a proper truck to put him in , lol ....

cool pics :aok

Rack has to dry for at least 60 days to be officially scored. They can give you a green score but it will change after drying due to shrinkage.

Here is the article in the Nebraska Land Magazine.

The reporter of the above article would seem to agree, as he curiously swapped the SUV in the pictures posted here for "a camper-covered truck". :D
