Title: B-25J Variant
Post by: 5PointOh on December 20, 2010, 05:12:55 PM
Yes I know another American bird, but I feel that being the largest production model of the 25 it would be nice to have.  It would also make the 25 a little more MA friendly for rear attacks.  Just my little wish.

Specification of the North American B-25J Mitchell

Powerplant:

Two Wright R-2600-13 Double Cyclone fourteen-cylinder air-cooled radials, rated at 1700 hp each for takeoff and 1500 hp at 2400 rpm. Equipped with Holley 1685HA carburetors or Bendix Stromberg carburetors.

Performance:

Maximum speed 275 mph at 15,000 feet. 230 mph cruising speed. Initial climb rate 1110 feet per minute. An altitude of 15,000 feet could be reached in 19 minutes. Service ceiling 24,000 feet. Range 1275 miles with 3200 pounds of bombs. Ferry range 2700 miles.

Dimensions:

Wingspan 67 feet 6.7 inches, length 53 feet 5.75 inches (bomber version), height 16 feet 4.2 inches, wing area 610 square feet.

Weights:

21,100 pounds empty, 33,000 pounds normal loaded, 35,000 pounds gross, 41,800 pounds maximum overload. The fuel capacity consisted of four tanks in the inner wing panels, with a total capacity of 670 US gallons. In addition, 304 US gallons of fuel could be carried in auxiliary tanks in the outboard wing panels, for a normal total fuel load of 974 US gallons. A 515-gallon tank could be installed in the bomb bay for ferrying purposes, 125 gallons of fuel could be carried in side waist positions, a 215-gallon self-sealing fuel tank could be installed in the top of the bomb bay, and provisions could be made for a droppable 335-gallon metal bomb-bay fuel tank. Fuel System

Armament:

Medium Bomber Version:

One flexible 0.50-inch machine gun in nose, 300 rounds. One fixed 0.50-inch machine gun in nose, 300 rounds. Beginning with B-25J-20, a second fixed 0.50-inch gun was added in the nose.

Strafer Version:

Eight 0.50-inch machine guns in the nose with 400 rpg.

All Versions:

Two 0.50-inch machine guns in individual blisters on the left and right-hand side of the fuselage with 400 rpg. Two 0.50-inch machine guns in top turret, 400 rpg. Two 0.50-inch machine guns in waist position, 200 rpg. Two 0.50-inch machine guns in tail turret, 600 rpg. Normal bomb load was 3000 pounds, but a maximum bombload of 4000 pounds could be carried on short-range missions. Some had underwing racks for eight 5-inch high velocity aircraft rockets (HVARs).

While I wouldn't mind seeing the J model in the game, I dont see that it would offer much more than the current H model we have now does.  The only exception being it could be used as a formation bomber with a bombsight, (when not using the strafing package) where the H doesnt have that option in AH.

And thats the point. The J is a little more survivable for level bombing.  Not that I am an expert about AH modeling, but I wouldn't think it would be overly hard to create using the C and H.

Lots of cool 25J paint schemes for the skinners to play with.

Parafrags too!

<Points Copr towards his P51B>

If HTC wants to take the time to do it, more power to em.  Nothing the J is going to do that you can't do in the H right now.  Again, another one of those I think HTC gave us the best bang for the buck with the 25s we have.

I'd rather they put the time into the Beaufighter :)

Level bomb with formations and keep the tail gun?   :O

(I agree, just sayin' I'd like the J eventually for both the 12-gun strafer model and the level bomber glass nose with tail gun, neither of which is available currently on the C and H models -- but this is just wishing and I do enjoy the B-25C/H we have in-game now.)

It has taken me four years of looking to get this much. :headscratch:

I Know the the bomb group the bomb squadron what the rear section of the aircraft will look like just can't find the serial number. I guess I have plenty of time since we don't have the J model at present.

Supposed to be on Page 272 of the book "Fighting Colors" by Gary Velasco. Probably same pics you found but gonna check local bookstores.

Here is the B24 skin I found that I want...

That is the last picture I posted from that book. Also a very hard book to find. Even Gary has no copies at present.

then no one would even use the B-25c at all.  It would literally have 0 sorties per tour.  I guess there is a time in special events where only the b-25c was around though.

It would still get used seeing it would have a very high ENY & what ever you destroyed with it would give you a nice perk point reward for it's usage.

Even if we had the B25J I would still use the B25C as a fighter. You have no idea how much fun it is to fly into a furball with that thing.
