With nvidia taking over 3dfx is there a point in still purchasing 3dfx cards. I suppose updated driver support for the 3dfx cards will suffer greatly.
-
Well I don't know about anyone else. However where else can you buy a good 64MB 3d card for 116$? (yesterdays pricewatch.com)
As far as drivers are concerned, you are likely correct. Not likely to see new drivers
for these cards. However how likely are you to need new drivers????
Personally I'm not anticipateing moving to Win2k or other OS anytime soon. Existing drivers are good & stable from all I've heard.
Ends up being a judgement call.

v5 5500 with new Win Me, no driver probs at all.
-
I run a dual boot on my system with Win98 for Aces High and Win2k for everything else (including other games), and the latest drivers for the V5-5500 are working great for me.

Just bought a v5-5500 works great in 98 and 2000. Had TNT2 - gained about 12 frames at 1024, so I upped res to 1280 and still gained about 2 frames overall. Visually, the 3dfx card just looks better than nvidia and I have been always been a fan of nvidia.

kinda like buying a car with no spare parts or new parts available ever, if something goes bad, ur up a watermelon stream without a paddle( SOL).
just like me with my Aureal based sound card. they went belly up, no support now for ever, and no place to send it for repair work if needed.

True, but if it fails I can alway go back to tnt2. (heck at the prices they are selling for now, buy 2 and keep 1 for a spare. I got aureal sound card also (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif))

i just thought that game developers would stop developing games to take direct advantage of 3dfx cards as many do now. I suppose that trend was coming to an end with the advancements of direct3d though. I guess it dosnt matter since they are so damn fast either way. Oops im babbling now
