I know that the pilot community tends to be close knit. Yesterday, my wife found out that one of her friends, Greg, was killed in a crash trying to land at a local airport that he owns. This came as such a shock to my wife and I. We had just seen Greg at a Christmas party on Saturday. You could not have met a kinder, friendlier man.
The FAA is looking into the crash. I'm not sure about the plane he was flying. It wasn't his, but a friends plane that Greg was flying. We don't have all the details if the crash was weather (there was a wicked cross wind) or mechanical. I'm sure it'll be months before we hear anything. Greg was coming in for a landing and according to witnesses, it sounds like the engine cut out and he lost power on final.
Greg was a hell of a man. Please keep Greg and his family in your thoughs and prayers this Christmas.

That Mooney went down in 1/4 mile in freezing fog. Not the best place to be.
