Does anyone know how good of a processor this is... I'm looking to buy a laptop and the one i want has this processor in it.. i'm having trouble finding and information about it.
this is the laptop http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+/+AMD+Turion%26%23153%3B+II+X2+Processor+/+15.6%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+500+GB+Hard+Drive+-+Velvet+Blue/1250655.p?id=1218242897223&skuId=1250655&st=gateway laptop&cp=1&lp=5 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+/+AMD+Turion%26%23153%3B+II+X2+Processor+/+15.6%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+500+GB+Hard+Drive+-+Velvet+Blue/1250655.p?id=1218242897223&skuId=1250655&st=gateway laptop&cp=1&lp=5)
It won't be used for gaming.. just internet, facebook, weather stuff.. I will be taking it storm chasing next year so it's gonna have to be able to run multiple programs smoothly..
Any help would be appreciated.... thanks in advance

Try the hardware folder - all the computer building experts are very helpful in there.

I thought about that but since it wasn't actually game related i put it here.. hopefully someone will come along and see it

I happen to have that very processor in this computer. In fact, mine is identical to the one you posted except that I've also got a graphics card. Anyway, it runs nicely, I haven't had an CPU slowdowns when I'm not playing games. Gaming it struggles a bit, but you said you weren't using it for gaming, so...

Thanks for the reply. Thats good to hear.. The laptop i'm looking at will be running a ATI Radeon HD 4250.. but no it will not be using for any gaming unless you consider solitiare gaming lol
What i'm worried about is i have a tendency to have 10 tabs popped up on my internet while listening to music, and going through the 1000's of pictures I have on my computer..
I know absolutely nothing about processors... lol

I'm doing the same right now... I've got, let me count... 14 tabs in this window, 6 in another, and another 9 in a third window open. Of those total, 10 are youtube videos, and i've got another video actively playing. The only limiting factor is the internet loading the youtube videos. Anything on my desktop is snappy and quick.

lol nice man nice.. sounds like it'll do what i need it to do... nothing real fancy. I just don't want to get it and it start get laggy and freeze up on me.

If you intend to run multiple programs at once then you definitely need to pump that thing up in RAM to the max it can hold. Processor wise, that thing is way overqualified to be used merely to open a dozen+ browser windows (heck a pentium 2 will handle that easily).
You need to check what software you will be running when you go storm chasing. You know, not programs found in windows or that you buy at the store... the programs that you need to use 'on the job' usually given to you by the job. Unless they're really hard core scientific software packages, I don't see that CPU having any problem running them plus multiple browser windows.
So... pump RAM to max and also make damn sure that the battery power will last you enough (or get yourself 2 extra batteries). I've done on-the-field stuff and the worst thing you can have is the damn battery running out and having no backups. A car charger would also be a must.
For internet, get yourself those new wifi 3g cards like the MiFi 2000 from Virgin Mobile (verizon also has a similar one). http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband/mifi-2200.html
in a nutshell its a credit card sized wireless router that connects itself to the internet via 3G and gives wireless internet up to 5 devices around it. Excellent little tool and for 40 bucks a month unlimited data @ 4mbit its a steal.

I'm a big AMD fan..... they just don't have the gas right now.
Last 2 machines that I built have Intel I-5 and I-7. You won't see those in a lappy. Intel is the faster route in lappys too.

My friend has a laptop with an i5 and im pretty sure you can get laptops with i7s too.

I had thought about this one but it's way to expensive for me.. but it does run an I-5 processor so they do put them in laptops now.
