Go figure, I'm 46, overweight, smoke, don't eat healthy, don't run, don't exercise much.
Genetics are everything.
Praying for your speedy recovery sir, and seriously working on some lifestyle changes for myself.

I am 37, do not drink, smoke, I eat healthy and run.
As Mark Twain said, you've neglected your vices. You're a sinking ship with no freight to throw overboard.
Hang in there, Oak, your ailment is something that medicine is very competent at fixing these days.

I know what you are going through Man. I had a massive Heart Attack at the Age of 36 my only downfall is that I smoked and my screwed up working hours as a Paramedic and the poor sleep schedule still have, That is when I made my return to AH while I was outa Work. Oak I hope your employer offers you short term disability or something cause I was outa work for almost 3 months and fell so far behind on bills and still playing catch up with em. I was actually afraid to goto sleep at night after the heart attack with the fear of not Waking up cause Most of your Heart Attacks happen while your at rest and during the Prime hours of sleeping.
If ya need any oneone to talk to pm man I will talk. But now your on the Cardiac Cocktail medications now for the rest of your life to keep your Blood thin around the Cath site
I caught mine in time but at the time of my heart attack I was denying it was happening and beign a stubborn Paramedic say it was my heart burn.

It's a bitter irony that his healthy lifestyle could not overcome whatever predisposition he had to cardiac problems, where someone like me hasn't yet suffered a similar fate despite a very unhealthy lifestyle.
The big difference is that his healthy lifestyle may be what enabled him to survive this.
If I don't start taking my health more seriously and my unhealthy choices overcome any genetic protection I have, I may not be able to survive a heart attack.
Congratulations Oak, on being a survivor.

Best wishes my friend.

Kinda spooky because I'll be 38 here shortly. My dad died a year and a half ago from a heart attack at age 61. Scary stuff.
Glad to hear you're still kickin'.

Get well oakranger, hope to see you soon. Only one advice Try to have in your lunch ALWAYS (especially in salads) OLIVE OIL. I know that is not included in your cuisine but the best medicine for the heart is olive oil.

Get well Ranger. You are very lucky. I got a call today and it's sounds like the same thing happened to one of my best friends this morning as he was getting ready for work. He was not as lucky, he died in front of his fiance at 39 years old. :pray

Mine was only 95% blocked. Strangest thing in surgery because they don't put you out all the way. It was really surreal.
Don't go for any long walks until that plug dissolves. I made the mistake of going for a long walk in the nature preserve soon after surgery and halfway through I could only walk for five minutes then had to stop and shake my leg for five minutes to get the blood flowing back through it.
Now comes multiple trips to the cardiologist until they get all your cholesterol and triglyceride numbers right.
Anyway, not a big deal as long as you made it to the doctors on time.
-
Get well soon, Oak! Hope all goes well and with a speedy recovery. :salute
-
Speedy recovery my man! And glad you made it through the first (and often worst) big scare. If they managed to clear the clot, hopefully there will be little damage.
Trouble this early means LOTS of genetic predisposition, so from here on out expect to be seeing docs, taking meds, and follow up visits. You've had a wake up call, but as long as you stay awake and do what needs to be done - all should go well!
And BTW - if you ask the doc for flight clearance, make sure he knows it's VIRTUAL flying!
-
Wow Oak, that's scary :O. Especially since I'm also 37 and fairly good shape. Hope you get better soon bud :aok Will miss your trash talk for BoB, will have to pick on oneway more I guess :lol

Hell, dieing isn't so bad. It's not drinking(alcohol), smoking, and indulging your tastes that sucks. Loosen up the thong briefs by the way for better circulation.
On a serious note, I do hope for your strength and health, and a long life for you with your family.

Holy toejam. I had a diabetic coma (low blood sugar) that my wife caught when we were first married (25) - that was an interesting night waking up surrounded by 5 male medics who saw it medically necessary to have my bellybutton butt naked.

In my 19 years I've noticed the diabetics are usually naked before we get there. :D

Listen up guys... My ex wife nurse told me this.
If you feel like you're having a heart attack bury your chin into your chest and cough hard, like you're trying to dislodge something. I guess this can get things pumping again.
thought you should know.

I am glad you woke up in time to take action and they were able to do something for you, Oak. Take care man, get better sir! <S> :pray

and fighting mad. :O well not really mad but definitely fighting.
Glad you not only caught but recognized that there was a serious problem and soon enough for them to keep you around a little longer. The single most important thing to save your life is recognition without it all the fancy meds and tests and procedures are worthless.
Hopefully you make a quick and full recovery.

Glad ur ok man!! keep in shape.

Glad to hear everything is alright.

Bit of a worry that oakranger, like flying over the ocean after hearing the engine miss a few beats. I have an encouraging story though, father-in-law in his fifties had two heart attacks and lost his job. Started up a lawn mowing business, never really took off as a major source of income but it got him walking and kept him fit. Five years later a full set of heart scans showed no damage as if he'd never had an attack. Doctors couldn't believe it. Seems the body can repair almost anything if you treat it right.
Good luck to you :salute

Jesus OAK, good luck and best wishes. take care of yourself! who am i gonna get sea sick from now? :pray

Hope thats the first and last occurance Oak your too young for that :salute

I feel for ya bud. I have a Bicardial Arrythmea. The first thump in the heartbeat is perfect but the second one goes off, 8 to 10 beats for every one of the first. I was a pro motorcycle roadracer for many years, then at 50 years old (4 years ago) I had a bad crash that severed my little finger. While they were preparing me for transport, because I was 50 it was standard practice to hook me up to a heart machine. I remember very clearly the medic attending me yelling at the driver "Step on it man, they should have called a helicopter for this guy, I'm losing him". My racing license was subsequently pulled and I had to retire, finally, I was planning on racing forever, hell, I had won a race the year before!
Now I must avoid all vices and avoid stress or I get trasient moments, 10 or 20 seconds long. Yes, I get so immursed in our wonderful world of Aces high that it does happen while playing. I just hit auto pilot, sit back and let it pass. Don't tell my wife.
What I have is far from being a heart attack so you need to pay attention and follow your doctors orders. Don't tell him about Aces High ;)
-
Wow Oak! I'm glad you were smart enough to get to the hospital or was that your wife's advice? :)
Get Well Soon! :pray
Cheers,

Get better sir! would love to have ya back on again!

Glad to hear you caught this in time, and am hoping you will experience a full recovery. (With worse luck, you could have died in your sleep).
The positive side of this event is that, from your description, it looks like you will get an opportunity to recover and take the medical precautions necessary to avoid a recurrence.
Again, best of luck, and hope to see you back when you're better!

Dear friend of AH,
I am home! My family and I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers. Having the heart attack has left Nikki and I in a state of shock, as well as others who are close to us. I am glad to be home to see my family.
Meeting with the cardiovascular specialist, he is puzzled as to why I had the heart attack. Although there is some family history of heart issues, he pointed out two questions: 1) why a young, healthy person who does not drink, smoke, eat healthy and does not have high blood pressure or cholesterol issues, had this clot. 2) Why was the clot so far down of the LAD artery (left anterior descending)?
Despite of this event, it will not stop me from continuing to have a normal life style. I just have to take it easy for the next couple of weeks. It did make me think a lot and see that life can be short lived. With that, i have come to find peace with inside of me and others. For all you on AH who i have bump heads with, i don't want to fight anymore. There is to much more important problems out there then this cartoon game. So i want to declare truce......but may still bombed you in my P-47D-25. :D

There are several genetic factors which cause people to have blood clots. I hope they are testing you for those.
-
Glad to see you are ok Oak. :salute

Just kick back and relax and watch some football while you recover.

I agree with fencer on this you may have a genetic defect that allows your blodd to clot natuarly over time and i 2 hope they are testing for this. And i have also read and heard about some similar cases in Atheliete's I think it was something in their diet that promoted natural clotting of the blood.
But im no Doctor so it might be worth asking please do take all the nessery precations to prevent this again as we all know for the old time players we are not so much a family but a close community we are in affect neighbours and good ones at that. So we dont want to loose anyone as it is a wrench to the community.
Good Luck and all the best for the future :pray :salute

I will be starting rehab next week. They will run stress test, going over family history, food intake among other things. hopefully we can come up reasons on why i had a clot. The cardiovascular specialist did said that i had a little Plaque build up in the arteries but nothing out of the ordinary. Among the blood work, the only concern they had was that the bad cholesterol level was a bit high (111, where they want to see 70).

I met an old man years ago that was 97 years old. I asked him "Sir, what has been your secret over all these years. His reply to me was "Ill smoke my cigarettes, have my shot of whiskey in the morning and love my women" I about fell over then.
My point to this. I believe all this is nothing more than genetics. Me? It is my destiny to die of a heart attack. The same as my father, his father, his fathers father. All died of massive heart attacks out of no where.

If you want to die like that, be ready to experience the pain of your life.

If you want to die like that, be ready to experience the pain of your life.
I have suffered and passed 5 kidney stones half the size of your pinky finger nail. Dont think it could be much worse.
I know my pops didnt feel a thing, And my grandfather for that matter. My grandpa stood up to walk around the desk and dropped dead. My father, I sit him on the bed after helping him back to his room. Sit him down and he was gone. Never felt a thing. Thats the way I want to go out.
-
A lot to be said for that. Like you I hope I go quick. :pray Exercise, eat less Bipolar. Maybe you will last a lot longer but still go quick. Sure hope I do.
My dad had a stroke when I was 9, and for 10 years I helped him go to the bathroom and clean him up after. I know he 'hated' it more than I did, not to mention the toll on my mom who faithfully stayed with him in thick and thin.
Oak I just read this thread. Glad it turned out OK. Pretty scary stuff. Hope it is diet and life style related and an easy fix. Dare I say less FSO and more exercise? ;)

It may be your destiny, but a healthier lifestyle could forestall that destiny for several years. Something we should all consider.

It's possible to walk down the expressway blindfolded and not get hit. In fact, if you took 1000 people and had them walk a mile or so, there would probably be more than one who survived.
But that wouldn't mean that it was safe, or smart.
So, while genetics are definitely a big part - truth is you can't do anything about them. We do KNOW that certain things are directly correlated with blocked arteries, and we know a lot about them.
If you smoke, your yearly risk of heart attack is twice what it would be otherwise
The higher you cholesterol and blood pressure, the higher your risk of heart attack.
and so on.
There are enormous piles of data showing direct connection between risk factors and bad outcomes. But like anything else, there are no guarantees either way.
In the end the question is: Which risk group do you want to be in? The one with better odds, or the one with worse odds? You can't control life, but your choices definitely influence what happens. And like Daddog implied, if the odds play out the wrong way your life can be much, much less pleasant than you wish.
-
For the good of the Order, here's a link to a heart risk calculator that statistically predicts your risk of heart attack in the next ten years. This calculation is based on hard data from watching tens of thousands of real people, not the opinion of some expert.
For those who are younger than, say, 50 - keep in mind that since the overall risk of heart disease increases dramatically with age you may get a low risk of heart attack in the next ten years while still having a high risk of eventually getting a heart attack.

Kidney stones, yea they are vary painful. Once had one but i think the heart attack was far worst.
