I watched the first part of it the other day, it seemed incredibly stupid.

Sadly, I rarely ever get IN.
(I hear the ban stick being cleaned and sharpened)
-
haha, I read a book once called "Guns of the South," basically some military guys come back in time and give the south AK47s and training etc.... funny book, but pretty stupid.
-
I usually never say this but wow.... IN

Since im studying anthropology I found this to be rather interesting. Without the IN part.
-
Obviously, this is a bad attempt at humor. :huh
Slavery was a dieing entity. All one has to do is look at the long line of events from pre-1776 to 1850-ish and see how little by little slavery was going to die. It was only a matter of time and the bulk of the South knew that. They just wanted to do it on their own whim, not by the stroke of a pen by someone not "of" them.

I dont see anything so far serious enough to get the thread locked over.
But I dont see it surviving very long. If the subject matter doesnt get it locked. User reaction will.

They could have at least came up with a plausible scenario like Lincoln losing the 1964 election to McClellan thus dividing the Union.
:headscratch:
Instead they go off in some direction that had no real chance of happening....
France and Britian fighting side by side the confederates to win at Gettysburg?
:rofl
yeah right!
-
Yeah same here...it's a mocumentary replay on an interesting crossroads in history. What's the big deal.
Thanks for the link. I'd like to watch them all when I have time.

Maybe I just lack imagination, but both Lincoln as well as McClellan living until 1964 doesn't sound very plausible to me... :devil
On the OT I would like to comment too, but I don't want to have a BBS timeout right now ;)

Well, if Jackson hadn't died, I think Gettysburg would have had a different ending.

Well, if Jackson hadn't died, I think Gettysburg would have had a different ending.
If the strategies of both sides had been the same I highly doubt it. Although there were mistakes made at the corps and division level, ultimately Lee BADLY mismanaged his battle plan at Gettysburg. Had he listened to Longstreet and moved between Meade and Washington--forcing Meade to come down from the heights and attack--MAYBE. But even with Jackson leading the way there was no way the Confederates were driving the Union off that ridge.
-
The best case scenario would have Jackson pushing the disorganized Union forces off Cemetery Hill on the first day, before they had time to consolidate the position. Recent evidence suggests that even if Jackson had been there, he could not have organized an attack, mainly because the Confederates created a traffic jam when they flooded into the town that made it impossible to redeploy.
A win at Gettysburg wouldn't have won the war. Grant took Vicksburg and cut the Confederacy in two almost on the same day. He would have still come east and employed the same tactics that eventually won the war. The Army of Northern Virginia never had enough manpower to completely destroy the Army of the Potomac, or even cut their numbers down appreciably without suffering similar losses. Even if the AoP had been cut down to half its size, it could still have fallen back on the Washington defenses, and the Union could replace its losses, while the ANV could not.
The whole issue of what would have happened if the South had won the war has been done to death. Harry Turtledove (he's the guy that wrote the AK 47 story someone else mentioned, but that novel is not part of the series) explored the idea in a series that chronicled not only a second civil war, but both world wars and (I believe) the 50's and 60's as well.

I watched this when it was on TV. Nothing remotely "IN" worthy about it. Interesting take on "what if?".
-
I thought it was a tadge on the ridiculous side. But I do not think it deserves an "IN". I saw it on youtube and watched it, and seeing as I know the layout of AH2's player base I thought it might interest the forum users. Entertain or take serious, doesn't matter, its still a good watch.
I did not intend to offend, I was just posting it.

IN!

I can see how this could get the "Nothing to see here, move along" stick. But it is a movie that was made to pertray what life might have been like, although I believe greatly exaggerated. But nonetheless, if this thread doesn't get locked for it's merit, it soon will be due to the fact that future posts are probably not going to be civil.
