Title: Personal Firewall - can it work with online gaming
Post by: danish on May 11, 2001, 08:51:00 AM
Finally pulled myself together and got myself a personal firewall - in this case the Norton variant but I would guess the basics is the same for all of them (?).

So will online gaming suffer (like prolonged pingtimes, package loss, disco...)?Words of wisdom will be appreciated =)

You should be able to configure it to allow your online games to work properly.

I don't have any experience with that product though, so I've no idea.  Worst case scenario you just disable it while you play, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Yes I have started out with standart levels: "Medium".
There is options for "high" and "minimum" as well, like there is the possibilities to tweek these. Also one can choose not to use the firewall on certain addresses - like HTC :=)
Last option seems the most elegant if trouble should arise.

Doh!A case of yelling for help before knowing if there is any need :P

Seems the Norton Personal Firewall alarms when you log on AH arena overview, then gives you the choise to accept (once or permanently) or not.

Had a lengthy sortie, no problems afaik.

Thx for the answer anyways Lephturn :=)
