Title: Flight Lead Markings
Post by: SectorNine50 on January 03, 2011, 03:52:43 PM
Could there perhaps be a simple system that would color just the last bit of the vertical stab a color of the player's choosing to indicate flight lead?  No real use other than immersion, and right now, at least in our squad, we have to use a different skin than the flight lead to get a similar effect.  I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to implement, it would just be a solid color overlay that would be applied over the current skin.

Something like this!  The blue on the vertical stab (not sure if that's it's purpose in this case, but that's my thought!).

The neon sign on top of each plane isn't enough?   ;)

Heh heh, nope!  Like I said, it would be purely for immersion reasons.  Just thought it would be a neat addition that I figured relatively wouldn't be hard to implement...

I've HEARD of those... what are they good for? ;)

Oh and op... I'll throw a +1 in the hat for 'neat idea' factor.

You mean to tell me that neon signs don't exist in all arenas?

The rudder colors were squadron identifiers.  Generally the letter code on a plane was about as much as you'd get for a flight lead indicator and that could be any letter, just happening to be the one used by the Group or Squadron leader.  The RAF did let Wing Commanders have their initials in place of squadron codes, and in the PTO you might find id bands on the fuselage to ID a flight or squadron lead.

Might be a bit tough to make it work historically in AH

sector if you the skins doesnt help you, just type in the text buffer (.wingman so and so) then the name will light up white or whatever color you want to set it to to help you out better.

Yeah... But there is something about an entire flight being the same skin, and some distinction from every other plane in the squad to friendly and enemy players that I think is cool.  Was just a thought, it sounds like it isn't historically accurate though.  I thought I heard that the Germans colored the nose of their aircraft for flight lead, but perhaps I'm misremembering.
