Title: Brewster vs A6M2
Post by: JUGgler on January 05, 2011, 09:40:05 AM
Ok so in a previous "thread that for some reason no longer exists" there was a debate about which is better, the Brew or the zeke. So I have decided to to set up a contest in the DA "like the 38 vs JUG" fights to find out which truely is better. If there is good interest I will set up dates and times. So please reply here if this interests you!  TY

Which model of Zero did you have in mind?

I'll fly an A6M if I can get there. I'm on Central European Time. What did you have in mind, a gigantic rolling 1 on 1 or a pitched battle in the canyons?

The thread exists.  It was moved to the correct forum.

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,303380.0.html

We do not always place links back to a moved thread, in cases where it is being constantly abused, we just move them.

I think you need a "Deadhorse" forum Roy.

Anyway, Brew vs Zeke would be fun. Maybe try alternating the 2 and the 5 and see what happens. If you keep getting a good turn out with these try the Hurri Mk I vs A6M2 someday :aok

For myself a Brewster of course.  :noid

I never fly them... but I'd jump in a brew for this.

Just more frivolous fun in the DA. :D

Gonna be close! Brews can take damage, zekes I think we all know how they take damage, Zero's will win I think. The a6m2 can easily out turn a brewer

I'll do it if I can.  Not tonight, but I should be good for any other night of the week.

I'll fly either one that needs a spot filled.  I predict dominance by the Brews.

I'm down for this one too, I'll fly either side as needed, I'm not particular.  Should be interesting.

Brew vs FM2 might be interesting one of these days too.

I'll have to make a point to get my account reactivated.  Post what times I'll see if I can make it. I'll fly either but like the brew.

Hurr1 is my brew killer of choice.

probably a better match up, if you know the zeke you know what to do to avoid and possibly kill the Brew.

as an FM-2 enthusiast, i can say that there are advantages and disadvantages.

-both fighters have the same armament, tho with the brew there are 2 guns in the cowl, somewhat improving concentration of firepower.
-the brew is lighter, therefore it climbs better than the Wildcat. it also has a better roll-rate.
-the Wildcat can soak up more damage than the brew, and it is faster.
-the Wildcat can sustain flight as low as 80 mph with full flaps, making an overshoot easy.
-both planes can turn well with each other, though the FM-2 needs to use flaps
-the brew can accelerate out of a turn fight better than the Wildcat can
-the brew responds better at speeds above 400 mph

thats just a few of the comparisons i can think of

I will fly a brew, i hate it but I will do it....roll rate says it all in this one.  The canyons is the best spot for this fight! lol, deep in the canyons where no tempy or 262 wants to live.

Madda, you in for the Brew's in the canyons?

While the Brewster is lighter, FM-2 has 350hp more power. So the the FM-2 actually has slighty better power loading at sea level and therefore accelerates and climbs better at low altitude. Also, FM-2 later Cyclone model retains its power better as the altitude increases and the cap in climb and acceleration increases even further up to ~11k where the difference starts to get smaller again.

The roll rate difference is indeed substantial. While FM-2 is one of the poorer rollers in the game, Brewster is among the better ones. I also agree that FM-2 is extremely durable. I truly can take a lot of hammering in the game and the same thing has been said about the plane in real life. The Brewster has a clearly smaller turning radius at low altitudes but the difference gets smaller fast as the altitude increases. Again as the 11k is reached things start moving for the Brewster again until climb/acceleration is virtually same between 16k and 20k.

Which is "better" a hammer or a Screwdriver? Better for what?

There is no "better" there is only different tools for the job, different styles and ways of doing that job.

Hmm, that sounds familiar, almost like I've done that before at sometime...

Man I want to get a screen shot of us in that teeny little canyon fighting it out, that was something else.  Yeah I'm down for this one for sure.

Are you going to fly the Brew or the Zeke?  Where's Dodger on this???  About a month after the Brew came out, Dodger organized about 40 DA regulars in the canyons one night....all in Brewsters.  It went on for about 4 hours...god it was a giant mess but it was one sure-fire way to learn that a/c.

Dodger???!!!  IN or OUT???

I can go either way on this one actually.  I lean towards the brew, but I'm not married to either plane.  Whatever side needs another stick to balance the fight, I'll do that.

To do this right and try and get an unbiased result it shouldn't be a "I'll fly this or that".  Fight A-Brew, B-whatever a bit, then switch.

The match will go like this: 6 fights, after each we will switch rides that will give each side 3 flights per plane. I'm sure this will settle which is a better platform!

The 38 vs JUG fights produced 1 unmistakable truth, the 38 is a far superior plane than the JUG. I believe everyone involved would agree to that!

The overall skill lvl on each side I felt was quite even, with that said the real standout difference was the planes!

This match should show conclusively which platform is better.

Rules: 1- Cold guns on initial merge
2- All planes must merge at predetermined alt, maintaning lvl flight until icon contact
3- no extending beyond icon range
         4- NO COMPLAINING
         5- Have friggin FUN

          :aok

If it's deck merges the Brew will may not be able to demonstrate its biggest asset. The ability to dive to 600 mph and stay there for an hour and half.  :D
