Title: Parenting is BACK! Facebook gangster gets "the strap."
Post by: Saurdaukar on January 06, 2011, 05:38:24 PM
That's what my father called it, anyway.

Language is not safe for work (don't think that's a violation of AH BBS since it's an external link or something, right?)

Background:  Kid has one of those Facebook accounts.  Pretends he's a rapper or gangster or some such thing.  Uncle finds it.  Posts video of the kid getting spanked on his Facebook page.  I love it.

http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshhBtdQvDJLQy55M05q

Should be all over YouTube at this point as well if that site is blocked at the office, etc, etc.

Tough one.  Speaking as a parent who has raised three to adulthood and is raising a 4th, and as one who has worked with teenagers for the last 25 years, I'm hard pressed to condone hitting kids.  To me it means the parenting is reactive instead of proactive.  My wife and I debated it a long time when we had our first.  I was more apt to think it was a solution.   She was against it.  In the end we put our energy into being proactive and didn't have to resort to that.

It doesn't mean the 'threat' of what might happen if Dad got mad wasn't there.  But anger was something that rarely showed itself as a parent so that when it it make an appearance, it got the response intended.  I've been told since that my kids referred to it as the "Darth Vader" voice behind my back.

I think it's a great vid and a great uncle who cares.

He didn't beat him, he sent a message to the kid. It was a message of love and caring.

As for his pants being hung down, where do you think the belt came from?

Title: Re: Parenting is BACK! Facebook gangster gets "the strap."
Post by: jimson on January 06, 2011, 11:45:52 PM
The line is right about where the Uncle left it.

Azz whoopin doesn't amount to abuse, when he's trying to steer the kid away from a lifestyle that might get him killed.

The guys pants were on the ground because his belt was otherwise occupied.

Where did anyone say anything about punching a kid?  I'm also willing to bet that you are one of the very few on this entire board that's never been whipped.  If so you'd realize it's much more of a mental get your feelings hurt punishment than it ever was physical.  No grounding I've ever had ever hurt my feelings as much as getting popped a few times.

I dunno about the grounding one, when I was younger my mom would hand out groundings like nobodys business and ground me for a few months at a time from all electronics and leaving the house, then when the 2 months would nearly be done she would get mad about somethin else and extend me another month or so. It would drive me nuts and I would wish I could just get an donut whooppin from pops so I could just get it all over with.

"Child beating" as you put it was once common place.

You can decide whether you think children are better behaved, less inclined to violence and criminality and more respectful of others now that your mindset seems to prevail.

Post by: Serenity on January 07, 2011, 12:16:36 AM
I think it's great! Hell, I probably would have turned out a much better kid had my parents put a hand to me a bit more, lol. There IS a line between parenting and abuse, and this is nowhere near it. There are many situations, as guppy said, that can be handled before they arrive through pro-active parenting. (Note this is the UNCLE, not a direct parent) Occasionally though, when a kid gets COMPLETELY out of line like this, he needs a good arse-whooping to get back into the straight and narrow.

Did you know that my pop kicked me to the moon whenever I did stuff like that?

Did you know that by inflicting pain my pop was able to send me a message otherwise incomprehensible to an ignorant kid?

Penguin, the stove is hot, don't touch it!

Agree, when I was younger, if I did something wrong I got the belt, same with my parents....im 19 now and it seems like to many of these kids dont care and dont get punished enough.

"Child beating" as you put it was once common place.

You can decide whether you think children are better behaved, less inclined to violence and criminality and more respectful of others now that your mindset seems to prevail.

So if the mindset is to accept that when you bring a child into the world, it means your number one job is parenting, what's the problem?  I didn't hit my kids and they grew up respectful of adults, understanding there were limits etc.  I'm quite proud of who they are as people.

My wife and I also understood that it was our job to parent our kids which involved listening, setting limits, setting the example for them in how we dealt with the world etc.

To suggest that hitting our kids is the solution to their problems is wrong.  What it says is the parents weren't working hard enough on the front end of parenting so they had to rely on reacting instead.

Is it a crime?  No, but it speaks a lot to lazy parenting in my mind.

I'm 18 years old and was raised like the kid in the video.  When I did something bad (mainly misbehaving, running the mouth, disrespectful things, etc...) I got the belt.  If I had to do it all over and choose what kind of punishment I got, I would pick the belt.  It got me where I am today, and I enjoy getting compliments from adults about how much respect I show and stuff like that.  Kids need punishment, and simply locking them in a room without this our that simply doesn't work these days.  As a kid myself, I admit we're young, dumb, cocky, you name it.  There's no telling how many times I've seen kids of all ages that I wanted to give them a good ole "behind the shed" whoopin' for the way they acted.  What I see in the video is a parent doing his job.  Abuse?  Nope.  Doing it out of anger?  Nope.  Give that man a Klondike bar!

I applaud the uncle.  In the era I was raised a wooden paddle in school and a belt were a deterant similar to a nuclear device.

We have it.......don't make us use it.  It worked.  The Uncle cared enough for his Nephew to do what he did.

The Uncle knew the possible consequences of "Gang Life".  He did his Nephew a huge favor.  The Nephew will

In my day everyone of importance in your life beat you as a kid. My parents (mom mostly cause dad did not know his own strength) beat me with a strap, spoon, broom or whatever was near. Not for simple infractions BTW

I went to a Catholic school and the stories you've heard are true. There was no going home and complaining about it if it happened to you. You'd just get another beating.

The cop who caught you doing something you were not supposed to do. He'd slap you around a bit and call you stupid then tell you why you were wrong. If that didn't seem to sink in or he felt needed more attention he would take you to your parents and explain the misdeed always leaving saying he would be watching you...and he did. He'd stop by the park or wherever and ask us to approach the car, try to find out what else was going on and then head off to whatever else they did in the community. That I know of, cops are no longer stationed in a single area for extended periods of time here in Chicago anymore.

We had he exact same thing in new jersey. When I was 6 or 7, another neighborhood kid and I found a lighter - and then some bushes. Wouldn't ya know it, the smoke attracted attention. Pretty sure that cop is still walking the same beat every time I go back and visit.

I believe that is still the practice in DC.  Typically see the same cops in my neighborhood - most of whom are gearheads and, thus, completely understand that if I mounted a front license plate, the airflow to the front brake ducts would be adversely impacted.   :devil

Hey, it happened in my neighbourhood less than six months ago.  That monster will be sitting in prison for a long time.

It still amuses me to see you're still on the boards. Especially when you've been given multiple warnings of Rule #4, and Rule #6.

I admit we're young, dumb, cocky, you name it.  There's no telling how many times I've seen kids of all ages that I wanted to give them a good ole "behind the shed" whoopin' for the way they acted.

I didn't have a problem with the arse beating but the profanity laced tirade wasn't very inspiring.

Yeah, and in several other old ones. It's funny that you sneak past undetected.  :D

Penguin's posts are generally more though-out and less profane than 90% of what you will find on the boards. If it is a wonder that anyone is still on the boards, I think it is AK-AK.

Had a teacher in 6th grade back in the "day".

If you were a boy and got out of hand --it was off to the coat room for you!!

Ocasionaly you could feel the wall shake!

It was for the most part the most well behaved class in the entire school.

All the boys in his class were required to wear ties, and the girls had to wear respectable dresses, no pants allowed(for the girls)

To this day I remember him with much respect as do the people reminising on the BBs of our home town.

Mr. Zacardi.  :salute

Did you want the uncle to say P"lease get yo donut in dah airz cuz u gittin' a woopin!"????

Too bad more adults don't stand up like this.

 :lol no

I don't care either way, I just didn't watch the video and think wow, that shirtless profanity laced tirade was awe inspiring.

As has been said many times in this thread...WTG uncle...but also that was a soft (controlled) display of punishment...moving definitely got you extra in my house (and raising your fists after receiving a blow...well that changed punishment for me from that day)....the worst part of the whole deal for me though wasn't so much being hit by the belt, it was the fact that I had to go get it for my dad first  hahaha double whammy...take you down mentally then top it off physically  hahaha
