Well, i have recently gone through MEPS and the other processes needed to enter into the Military, i am in the Army Reserves as an 88M Motor Transport Operator. so far everything has been fun and looks good for my future. if anyone here has questions about the army reserve and the processes involved in joining, i am more than happy to give out what info i have. if you do have questions you can PM me to answer questions until may when i goto basic.
thats really all i have to, i wrote this cause until my PT test monday i have nothing to do, so i figured i would reach out and share my current experiances with some of my online communities.

Serious question.
Squid is going to go military but we have a bit of a disconnect. He's thinking Air Force and I'm thinking Army. His reasoning is that AF has more opportunities to get into technical fields and mine is Army has a broader base of skills. Need opinions gents.
Base info A / B student. Good physical condition. IQ wayyy up there.
Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, are off the table.

Squid is going to go military but we have a bit of a disconnect. He's thinking Air Force and I'm thinking Army. His reasoning is that AF has more opportunities to get into technical fields and mine is Army has a broader base of skills. Need opinions gents.

is there a specific job ur looking into?

If his IQ is really high the opportunity is there for all services, Marines have ATC school and it is a school that he can use in further endeavors after he gets out.
Coast guard has Maritime weather as does the Navy. Also with the navy they have jobs such as ATC, structural mechanic on planes, there is a whole list of jobs that he can do in all branches. Don't go by the fact that only certain jobs are in exclusive branches, they are in all branches.
The Marines have a 27 series MOS which is Linguist, anything from Afghan to Swahili to Russian. The think he needs to do is look at all the branches and see what they can give to him and what are the opportunities for advancement.
Myself when I got in I was Aircraft Crash Fire Rescue, I also did the job of courier, chaser and a few I cant say here. The opportunity is there but the it is up to the individual, i commend anyone who signs up fro any, and i do mean ANY, branch of service.

Well what kind of tech job does he want, AF does a ton of technical stuff with Aircraft, and Top Secret programs that i have no clue exactly what they are, Army, have Missle defense, and technical stuff in relation to helicopters and stuff like that, personally, i went army because of all the branches, they LET me pick everything i wanted, bonuses, job, etc. Airforce, if you dont meet the requirements for what YOU want, but have already signed the bulk of the Paperwork, you get stuck with where they put you. but thats my reasoning, plus imo, the army offers more options for me, for example, i have to wear glasses, but my vision is correctable to 20/20 which allows me to become aviation if i wanted to. which i am seriously considering after graduating HS. because i will have 120 days with my reserve unit after HS i can switch to Active Duty and rewrite my contract to whatever AR job i want, because i scored good the the ASVAB, and meet the requirements i can do anything i want excluding rangers & Spec. Forces because they have Selection Programs eg. RASP etc...

Fort Lost in the Woods. Navy has some great Technical jobs and you can do your Journeyman while on active duty(if they still do it ). We occasionally get 1 or 2 guys that were Guard or Reserve and they go active duty into another MOS. :salute for serving

He has a serious phobia about deep water. Having a phobia or two myself I can understand this as unreasonable is it may sound. Thus he unilaterally crossed the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, off of the list.
Funny thing is he has no desire to be a pilot and I'd sell a kidney to be one :D
