Forcing the use of a ground attack yak9T when there are no ground vehicles really sucks. Every Axis plane can fly circles around the 9T. I am extremely dissappointed in the layout of this event at least this first round.

It was a 9T V jet night for the most part. 9T really?

I lived!!
Oh ya i was a jet :P
-
Yea, it was no fun in a La5 fighting a 190D, but kept on pushing to fight.

As a duly appointed axis representative I would like to offer you our condolences and this as a gesture of goodwill:

:D
(seriously though I do feel for the guys in the 9T's)

Once the logs are out and I look them over I will take a look at the Yak-9T and see what happened.
Until then lets keep it civil.
-
Well the P39's did fair much better. Ended up getting jumped by 262's late in the frame. I really don't like these setups with the jets in them :old:
-
I noticed that overall side turn out was light for both sides, was that part of the problem getting overwhelmed during these engagements?

Someone gave you a Jet again Filth?
I still have nightmares from an FSO where Filth had a Jet.......me and my buddies lined up on the runway in buffs, getting ready to rearm, then the blood curdling scream over vox "262"!!! :O Pieces and parts of planes everywhere, explosions.......oh the horror. To this day i swear i heard giggling coming from the cockpit of that 262 ;)
-
The jets and the 190D9s and the 109s that approached our field were completely ineffective.
-
Looking at the numbers this morning, the Yak-9T did struggle overall. 20 Sorties... 13 Deaths... 4 Kills.
While it may have struggled against the 262/234; 262's only claimed 3 Yak-9Ts while losing one 262 to a Yak-9T.
I'm discussing it with the FSO Team, If any changes are made they will be announced before the objectives go out.
-
Our Yak9U's got waxed by a bunch of 109G14s and 190D9's....
I think we only had one pilot make it back to the field and then he got a ditch sitting in the middle of the runway...that's his story and hes sticking to it.
-
I was one of only 3 to survive in the defense of A5 and I landed with an oil hit. I was effectively out.
Looks to me that it was fair and a good match. <shrugs>

I think some squads got into a disadvantage fight while other where fair. My squad had La5 fighting 109G-14 and 190Ds. It was lopsided but we still put up a fight. Do not know much about La's guns, but their muzzle velocity must be weak.

Hey I chased a Yak back to a field shooting him up with my bbs. Perhaps that was the guy that ditched? He was smoking and had to have been beat up pretty bad. This was the second time I've ever participated in a frame of an FSO, the first being when I was still very new. Had a good time. Got jumped by three high Yak9Us and had a bear of a time staying alive and out of guns. Thanks for all the fun!

Yak 9t has no use at altitude every contact that came in was 5-10k higher so we dragged them down lower to have a fighting chance. So how do you catch late war German iron in 262's, AR234's,109G14's,190D's? Truth is you cant unless some one royally screwed up as this Dora did in this picture I took of a squad mate.

I ended up just parking my Yak on the runway & waited for a proxy kill in the ack. It seemed the most logical thing to do.

Didn't the russians do the same, brought the Germans down on the deck to fight?

Whoever gets shot down in a jet in this scenario sucks.

Not true. I was scouting ahead for the AR-234's. I came over the airfield as the Yaks were getting muddled up by the 262's. Yaks were mostly co-alt with me (20k'ish). On the flipside the AR-234s have no formations, and the bombsite was not easy mode (for their first run). That thing goes so fast that at 15-20k it's easy to miss in level bombing. Note the G14's and Dora's are not really high alt performers either.

Yes we were at 20k & struggling to do so & at that point we all headed lower. I was watching your G14 as it passed through.
This is as close as I got to shooting at any one.

Seeing 125 kills to 85 is a pretty substantial difference between the two. Frankly, I'm very surprised it wasn't higher as I had suggested it would be in a previous post.

Now yall know what it feels like to be an A6M5b vs F4U-4's and F4U-1C's. It's Eastern Front fellas, the only time Axis has a clear advantage.
I do feel sorry for you Allied twits but not very sorry. Last time we had jets we were handicapped by No-Fly Zones and couldn't take off til T+10 and couldn't go to certain areas. If you didn't read Vulcan's post on Page 1, I would consider doing so. He speaks the truth and i reinforce his 2 cents.

Quite so...
Asking for La-7s, or Yak9Us, would not have helped you at all when trying to chase down German planes over 20k high.
The entire Soviet mentality was to fly low, fight low, engage in dogfights, close the distance, and kill the enemy.
They didn't take shots 1000 yards out (most were really point-blank), they didn't climb up to 20k to hunt for the enemy. They let the enemy come to them. Does no good if the enemy is flying around at 20k and never comes down. They don't accomplish their mission and even if you miss all the action you still win.
P.S. Whoever called the Yak-9T a "ground attack" plane has no clue.

I hear you on that. Had to fly the A6M2 against the B-17s. We had just one pass at it and that it. After that, we just let them hit the base, no way we would caught up.
Not to make a whine about this. Another challenge most of the squads have is the ride. the squads that are in a JG group that will most likely fly axis in the ETO, will have have rides that you know how to fly them. Where in this case, 353rd FG, non of us fly the La's, Yaks or p-39. We fly P-51 and P-47. It sucks but we jump in them and do our mission.

I am a Luftwaffe pilot and i would say the german planes are superior to their russian opponents. But we had an equal numbers setup. Why? In reality the russians had a huge numerical advantage and also had more experienced pilots because the germans lost a lot and filled up with untrained grunts. That all caused the russian victory in the end, but we have experienced pilots now and want to create an almost equal frame. What about setting the ratio to 3:2 or to 5:3? It could be fun, we can find our opponents more easily and they have better chance to shoot us down. Just and idea, opinions, critics are welcome.

This is true for the eastern front, western front and southern front of EOT in the later end of the war. However, the ratio i do not think the CM would want to do that but could be wrong.

Dear everyone,
I think we should do what we did in "Should have been a milk run" FSO event. This was the last time we had jets in recent history. The second frame they put no fly zones, air spawns, and delayed take off times to even things out for the allies. Seemed to work out well for everyone.
Sincerely, your number one Allied fan, ~Der jude

My Yak9U got chased OTD by 2 190Ds that eventually nailed my engine and i crashed :uhoh

I think when you apply too much historical accuracy you lose the fun factor. It's not fun for anyone to be outnumbered or have a numerical advantage. No kills for the horde and no kills for the horded.
-
You may be right.
-
A recent example is December's SEC. Too many Allies and WAY too many F4U-4's and 1C's for Ki 84s and Ki 61s to have a chance. The fundamental problem was too much accuracy.
Sounds crazy but you cannot forget this is a video game and people are still here to have fun primarily.
