Title: Best Flight Apps for iPad?
Post by: Warspawn on January 08, 2011, 04:18:07 AM
Has anyone played with flight apps on the iPad?  I downloaded ForeFlight's kit, and AOPA's airport application, but wanted to know if there were any other suggestions.  Unfortunately, Golden Eagle's flight planning software is Windows-based  :(   Really enjoying the iPad at the moment...such a NICE change from having maps/charts all scattered around the cockpit.  Got a really nice mounting kit for the yoke and glare shield of my Aztec...

Not 100% sure what the names of each application are, but my instructor has one that works just like a GPS and overlays your flightplan/current position over whatever chart or airport diagram you want. It even has approach plates. He also has all the checklists on there as pdf's. Another app is the FAR/AIM, and yet another is the AFD. I've only used it once as a taxi diagram at a busy airport, but it worked wonders to see the little airplane on the pad move exactly as we were. Just the other day he mentioned getting an application that records your flight data as you go along and overlays the course over google earth images, and also provides a profile view of your altitude. You can see just how accurate your flying was with that one.
