Buddy of mine almost died.
He kept thinking it was a stomach virus or something of that nature causing nausea, pain and the black stool. Turned out he had an acute badly bleeding ulcer. They said if he would have waited a couple of more hours he would not be here now.
He said the symptoms sort of sneak up on you.

Wut about toilet clogging poop?
-
Black human feces indicates blood in the internal gastrointestnal system early in the process...red blood is further down almost to the end of the process.
Any sort of sign of this should send someone to the doctor in a heartbeat.
BTW: grizz, it's not funny.

Pepto Bismol causes the same symptom (dark poo). Purple Powerade causes GREEN poo (true)...

Spinach also causes green poop, atleast for me.

Beware of lots of corn looking stuff in your pewp too. Unless you've recently eaten some corn.

?
I think he was refering to poop being stereotyped by color.
-
Ya seems many purle foods will cause it too...black raspberry ice cream, purple Maalox, grape juice even.
-
Poop that's black like tar - with similar consistency - is a warning sign of blood that's been exposed to stomach acid.
When vomit has stuff like coffee grounds, that's another.

Yep. Just a joke.
Srsly, many foods can do this but it is a warning sign to pay attention. Lots of red wine will also turn your poop black along with red grape juice. Regardless, if u see that ur poop is black, take note.
I hope Ur friend is better soon, rogwar.

The amazing thing is they went down his esophagus and cauterized the bleed. The dangerous thing was the bleed was right next to a big vein or artery. It was about an hour procedure followed by 2 days in the hospital. Originally was supposed to be three but he was doing well and wanted out. He had to get 4 pints of blood. Docs estimated he lost over 50% of his blood.
Weird thing was he was healthy and consumed nothing that would be a known cause....including parasites and bacteria.
He's a great fishing buddy so thanks for your concern.

Man that's freaky. Glad he's alright.
-
That is a pretty scary thing though in all seriousness. Glad he is ok.

Blood makes black if it travels through the stomach. I have a wound in my "foodpipe" so I know.
But Guinness does the same :D

Glad your friends ok. :salute
This is probably a little off topic but I'm desperate. My dad has been having diarrhea for the past 3 months and isn't showing any signs of getting better soon. Hes sent in stool samples doctors have guesses of what it is. They give him medication and it doesn't seem to be working to well. Any ideas to what else he could use besides pepto bismol. He is getting better though, just slowly.

Most common cause for those esophageal varices is probably alcohol consumpton, although anything that results in liver issues can do it to. Very common complication of cirrhosis.
