Title: A fatal exception ........in Vxd Error
Post by: bashwolf on July 19, 2001, 10:29:00 PM
Hello,

I keep getting a blue screen error when i try to play Aces high.  It only happens after i log on and try to get to actual game.  Here is the exact error message.  A fatal exception 00 has occured at 0028:c170ab78 in VXD WSIPX(0)+00000b78.  The current application will be terminated.  Also, when i return back to desktop my res has changed from 1024 by 768 to 800 by 600 both at 32 bit.  Never had this problem till recently and didnt install any software or hardware.  Any suggestion or what could cause it??  Thank You

Bash

Try to reinstall your video and audio drivers.

Try to reinstall Aces High.

If nothing works, then its definetly Windows 9x diddlying with you, and it could be anything

Is it just AH bash?  Could be RW, try changing the RW setup from directsound to WAV recording.

Did you just get new memory?? I got this when I bought new memory and on stick was bad. It was a 128mb stick and 64.1mb on up was rotten.

Try this utility. It takes some time but it is worth it.  The exe creates a boot disk that you use to boot the PC up with and it runs several tests that take up to an hour or so to do.

As soon as I saw errors I stopped it (it does not tell you what dimm is bad) and I then removed all memory and tested each stick by itself till the bad one was found.

If your memory tests good. I have no effing idea.

Yes, I think this is either a memory problem, or an OS problem.

If the memory is working good, you are gonna have to reinstall Windows.

VxD WSIPX looks like a network driver which has been corrupted- clean up your network settings (remove the IPX protocol and other useless crap)and reboot.

Hi Bashwolf,
I had a phase of vxd errors a few weeks ago and was about to resort to a "Format C:" and reinstall everything from scratch when I was pointed at this page.
 http://tweakhomepc.virtualave.net/update/vmm32vxd.html (http://tweakhomepc.virtualave.net/update/vmm32vxd.html)

My problem was not releated to the specific files mentioned but I applied the fixes anyway and no problems since. Might be worth a bash (No pun intended) if you decide re installation from scratch is your only option left.

Hope this helps

NOTHING to do with DX8

Nothing to do with DirectX... sorry :-) Has to do with Windows Sockets over IPX.

Do you have IPX networking protocol loaded? you do not need it unless your accessing a Novel Network.

Hiya all,

I did all the above recemmended solutation.  Man computer can suck at times.  If one problem get fixed another arises.  Anyhow ,  I completed formated my Hd and reinstall Win98.  Know got a practically new system BUT have to install all the new drivers.  Oh well,  It was problem with IPX I had installed for for my network.  I though i might needed for for playing LAN games.  Thank you all for responding.  Take care.  Fatty you can kill me as soon I can afford MA lol.

The only thing I still use IPX for is Starcraft.

What else do you need IPX for?  Just curious.

Thankfully most game companies have FINALLY allowed LAN games over IP now that IPX is dead.
