Yeah, still haven't gotten depth quite down, yet. The snow photo (Evergreen) was very difficult as I was having to constantly change the lighting, zoom, and exposure time all the same time trying to keep the camera dry... I was standing in the middle of the road. No cars, though, the people areound here are a bit smarter than that.  ;)

Emma.  A year and a half old Boxer/Golden Lab mix.  She's a rescue dog that spent her first 6 months at the shelter.

Those are pretty well composed, considering a few (most?) of them are shot on the move.  Just goes to show that with the right subject, just about any shot can look good.   :aok

All political correctness aside. Buffalo and Bison are both used interchangeably, especially in the Midwest/West.

In Kentucky, we mostly stick to "bison."

All your photos seem to be lacking a lot of sharpness and detail.  Can you post the exif (shutter speed, aperture and ISO) data?  Where you on auto or manual focus?  Something is not right.  I'm not bustin' your chops just wanna help you get better.

Either...  A) you need a faster shutter speed, higher ISO, or best of all a tripod and remote release. or
             B) You're slightly out of focus, or
             C) you got a really crappy lens (which happens a lot with SLR  "kits" )

PS. Since this is a photo thread I'll throw in a shameless plug for me www.kirksagers.com  <-needs some updating badly but I haven't worked on it for a long time.  I get frustrated with website stuff, it's difficult for me  :bhead

Actually it was probably just a mix between me shaking from the coffee and the fact that I haven't taken photos in a month and was trying to get used to focusing manually again. I think the holly and the pine cones aren't too bad, though. I am still green at this and I was taking photos in low-light conditions with a reasonable amount of snow around, it was tricky.

It should also be mentioned that I experimented with a slower shutter and a much lower ISO than usual.

$350 75mm-300mm lens, not crappy at all.

Well...  everything is relative I guess.  $350 is pretty cheap for a lens in the 300mm range.  I wouldn't expect too much from it.  Most zoom lenses, with the exception of the really high end stuff will never resolve as well as a good prime, especially in the corners.   Some of them will have a "sweet spot" somewhere in the zoom range (at the right aperture too) where they are great, but then they get softer at any other focal length or aperture.

Wow!  Great shot of M42 with that XS, exif data?!  I have a rebel t2i and 18-55,75-300,100-300,28-80mm lenses.  Been trying M42 for awhile with different exposures/stacks, but cloud cover is prohibitive.

Sorry, I don't remember the exif data. I just wanted to try to capture it through my telescope. It's really shaky because I lost my remote shutter at that time and I don't know how to properly track object with my telescope. Having say I don't know how to track, this single exposure was only like 2-3 seconds long.
