ive been flying with nothing but a mouse&keyboard for 5 years now. (with a short-lived 2 months using a wireless logitech stick) and its starting to get old, i heard some of the players on here use console controllers and have decided to try that out, but i need some help setting it up :uhoh
i have a ps3 controller.
when i plug the usb cord from my ps3 into the computer(With the controller plugged in aswell) it poped up saying it was succesfully downloaded, but the controllers lights are still blinking like its searching for a connection, did i do something wrong or does it just do this, but still work?
when using it in-game. does the game auto-set keys for the controller? or do you have to go in and set them 1 by 1?
when i unplug the controller from the computer, to plug back into my ps3, will i have to redownload and reset the controls for aceshigh to thwe controller every time i plug it back into the computer?
any other help, suggestions would be very helpful :salute

ive never messed with the controls or anything before, ive been using the default mouse settings this whole time. so i didnt have any clue if it would auto-set or not if i decided to use a controller.
i plugged it in earlyer, in the "select controller" section it comes up as "playstation(R)3 controller" but i really dont know how to set the controls to the ps3s controls, because they dont come up as "l2 r2 r1 x triangle" on the options screen, they come up as 1 2 3 4 5 6 etc, was hoping someone could tell me which was which.

press the buttons on the controller. when you are in the settings section. it will automatically highlight which button it is.

it should be able to recognize the controller buttons for all modes. fighter bomber gv etc. there should not be any problems with the game finding the buttons for you.

You do need to make sure that your controller is plugged in before starting the game up. The game won't recognize anything that is plugged in after the game has loaded either.

i have it plugged into the computer, i tryed the "pressing buttons" thing, didnt highlight anything. actually screwed my controls up bad. took me a couple mins just to get them back to the default mouse controls.

I'm pretty sure the PS3's controller cable is for recharging only.

I'm not familiar with PS3 hardware, but you might want to read this. Good luck!

As the game was started with a mouse as the default controller, you have to use the "Default Map" button, while the PS3 controller is selected in order to make it the primary controller. I have no idea what the PS3 controller may send to DirectInput which hands off to us, so all bets are off as to what the game may try to default the commands to when the controller is used.
Worst case, assuming it actually shows up properly, you would have to manually configure all the command inputs.

Here's another place with step by step instructions for a 64 bit windows 7 install :

I've used my Xbox360 wired controller in Aces High before. It's neat, but not nearly as good or as accurate as a joystick and throttle, and frankly, I think even a mouse beats it. The reason is, is that in Aces High, due to it's simulation nature, small changes in your input can mean fairly significantly ones on the plane you're flying. Joysticks and Mice are far more accurate than the analog sticks on either the PS3 or 360 controllers, and with the controllers, you tend to experience problems such as "nose bounce" where it's difficult to get your crosshairs exactly where you want them. It's not impossible to use PS3/360 controller for AH, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Also, before you go into Aces High, you have to make sure windows recognizes the controller properly to begin with by going into the control panel, and seeing if it sees it under the game controllers section, and make sure all the buttons and triggers and stuff show up. IF it's not showing properly in windows first, nothing you'll ever do will get it working in AH.

It wont fly unless you have analog inputs on the controler. You can buy a saitek that has analog thumb sticks. It was a pain in the arzze to get it to fly. JOYSTICK IS a way better option./ It only partialy works with a xbox 360. IIRC

All so make sure you always use the same usb plug on the PC plugging it back in to the one you took it out of.
