Title: When "NVIDIA 3D Vision Ready"?
Post by: toki on January 12, 2011, 10:39:24 PM
The combination of 3D monitor and the flight simulator gets excited.  :)

The place in which it is anxious with Aces High
(Has the report of trouble already gone out? The retrieval function of the forum is not used easily. )

The clipboard is not operated easily.
The display of the icon is divided.
The display of the popcorn when the machine gun is hit is divided. (It is unquestionable for the cloud of dust. )

It is impatient to do to 3D monitor for complete and is the enjoyment.  :)

Sadly I understand you more than I do of most people, however it isn't quite clear. Are you saying there are sOme problems running this game in a 3d screen?

I read Japanese English  ;)

"3D Vision" is an NVidea 3D method using a 3D monitor and glasses. He's saying that those 3 items aren't working well. Let's find out more details.

tokiさん、すみませんが、英語の意味が理解できないのでもう一度日本語で質問してください。

すいません、日本語で書きます。

3Dモニターとフライトシミュレーターの組み合わせは興奮します。

Aces High

Here is a fast translation:

Toki apologizes if the topic has been discussed before because he had difficulty using the search function, also he was unsure where to post this.
He's really looking forward to using the new 3D monitor technology in conjunction with flight simulators.

So far, he has found 3 issues using it with AH:
- the clipboard is difficult to use
- the icons are split and hard to read
- the hit sprites split also and don't display well (the clouds work well, though)

Anyway, he's very happy using the new 3D monitors.

The reticle is difficult because the left and right eyes are going back and forth to sight it. Real reticles are maybe difficult, too, right?

He would rate AH as having "Good" compatibility with NVidea 3D Vision. The icon problem makes it difficult to play for long, It's tiring on the eyes. He would really appreciate it if HTC looked into making AH more compatible. There are 475 games compatible and 14 made specifically with 3D Vision in mind.

Righto I've been using AH in 3D for many many years now - but on the old Nvidia drivers via a 3D VR headset.

The clipboard hangs in 3D space sort of a foot or two away, whereas the mouse pointer seems to be on the eye plane (ie no distance away from you). Takes a bit of getting used too but after a while you don't notice it.

Split icons - might refer to the icons being offset a bit above the target. IIRC the icon text only renders on one eye, and seems to render in the zero plane like the mouse pointer. So at long range the icon text renders offset to the enemy. Same issue with the hit sprites. (or it might be the dominant eye issue, see below)

The gun sight issue is the same as in real life... it behaves like the real gunsight did, it is rendered in 3D. Unfortunately if you have a dominant eye your brain will tend to process the gunsight for that eye and not the other one, ending up with a gunsight off-center. For example my left eye is heavily dominant, so my gunsight tends to track to the right of targets - I have to remember to aim left a bit (and it varies with distance).

On the bright side playing with stereo 3D you have an enormous advantage in 3D SA and can make far better snapshots (but my dead 6 shots absolutely suck :D ).

Are you saying that the gunsight reticle does not aim to the right point when running AH in 3D?  Do you have to aim the reticle to the left of the target to hit? If so, I don't think the gunsight works correctly in 3D, then.  The reticle should be focused into infinity and always show the correct sight line, regardless of which eye you use.

Or are you saying that when your focus shifts from one eye to the other, the reticle disappears from view and you have to move your head to see the reticle in the gun sight again?  The sight line is fairly narrow, so you need to "focus on focusing" with your dominant eye. If so, this is correct.

Any object that doesn't use the 3D engine to render (ie. Plane ID's, the mouse, etc) will render at that "zero point" you speak of.  This is because there is no z-value for the system to consider when rendering the left and right eye.  Kind of cool though, feels like you are wearing a HUD! :D  This *probably* includes the gunsight as well.

As far as I can tell, the gunsight image is rendered in 2D, and always at the center of your screen (when looking forward).  The only time it is visible is when the center of your screen crosses over the reflection glass.  This would explain the issues people are having with the gunsights.  Irregardless, if there isn't a distance value that the system can use to assign it a position on each eye, then it will show either "double" (because it is centered in both eyes, which would explain why it would be different aiming left or right eye) or at zero point.
