Title: Book Discussion and Exchange
Post by: B4Buster on January 13, 2011, 11:35:14 AM
I had asked for this some time ago, I think enough time has passed to wish for it again.           With as many avid readers; and guys with books upon books of WW2 information that we have, it'd be nice to have a separate forum for book discussion and exchange. Make it happen Skuzzy, I will show you puppies.

I think that deserves a forum of its own.

Pick 3-5 players of good standing in the community and let them moderate it.

I suppose I could show Skuzzy pictures of my moobs if he absolutely required it. I was referring to something a bit more innocent though.  :bolt:

If you are suggesting the sharing of copyrighted material I am 100% against it.

No, Chalenge. I am talking about a section in the forum where people can discuss good (or not so good) books they have read. Seeing as how you obviously lack reading and comprehension skills, that forum would exclude you. Sorry :(

Currently reading 'Winged Victory'.  Pretty fascinating read on the Allied development and distribution of aircraft prior to and in WWII.

Those boobies are quite nice right there!  I'm usually a bigger fan of the Red-footed Boobies, but those 2 boobies are just fabulous!

Your reply indicates precisely what 98% of the "discussion" would be (i.e. pure argument and insult).

No, Chalenge. You came in here twisting words around in oder to cause trouble. You do it in every thread you visit. You expressed your opinion, which I pointed out was wrong. I suspect a forum of book discussion would quite mild as far as arguments go.

How does discussing a book, or talking about good / bad books, trading books with friends have anything to do with sharing copyrighted material? I think you may have just mis-interpreted what B4 was requesting.Again this is a good idea  :aok

You are making alot of assumptions which you are not qualified to make. I have no problems with your suggestion as long as sharing of copyrighted material doesnt occur which is all I said. You resorted to insult which is your normal activity and should be expected of you.

Mbailey if you scan an image or sections out of a book to share them in a forum its a breach of copyright. Skuzzy would never allow it but it sure seemed within the realm of what buster suggested which was rather open. Now if he wants to be a "reply moderator" and start insulting people thats also a large part of what this forum has become and that deserves a BIG -1.

Chalenge has finally stated the backing of his opinion..........  And the argument is probably more valid than you might think.  The rinky dink websites we all run and have copyrighted material on is one thing, but for HTC it is completely different.

And we have plenty of law enforcement here, including at least one member of the FBI's cyber division.

Where on here does it say anything about scanning images? Discussion and exchange..........no scanning. Look i see your point, i just think your looking to far into it.

I didn't realize insulting other BBS users was either normal, or expected of me. I'm sorry if you honestly feel this way. I invite you to review posts I have made in order to prove you wrong. I am also sincerely sorry for jumping on you too quickly. You do have a reputation as a trouble maker, Chalenge, and I thought that's what you were up to. Obviously I thought wrong. Back on topic - the crowd this section of the forum would attract would know well enough what and what not to post, as well as cite sources if need be. I really just want something where people can discuss their opinion of a book, its format, author, etc...As well as making suggestions of what and what isn't worth spending money on.

Don't mind Chalenge, the lack of virtual oxygen above the virtual atmosphere really gets to his virtual intelligence sometimes.

LOL.  No clue how you got to this, from Buster asking for a forum section to discuss books.

We promise not to use any of your material such as it is.  And you don't have to participate  :aok

I have to agree, challenge added nothing to this thread.

Even his warning about copyrite was done poorly.
Making assumptions that the forum would be used for sharing material.

You do know what they say about "Assume" don't you challenge?
Don't assume, ask, or wait and see, then pounce. Don't pounce first or you end up looking like the kitten pouncing on a leaf. Silly, stupid and unnecessarily antagonistic.

I still think a book discussion forum would be great.

How can sharing information on books we've read be a bad thing?

Example.  Just finished "Ship of Ghosts" by (at work and can't recall his name).  Thought it was a great read, well worth the money if you are interested in early war US Navy involvement.

Somone responds.  "I didn't like it because."   Or they respond.  "I liked it because."   Someone else says.  "Shoot me a PM and you can borrow mine."

Not much conflict there.

Precisely what I'd like to see. Not so much as a fact-base discussion, but an opinion driven one.

Yep, who's reading what, whats good, whats mediocre, whats a hard slog. Discussion of points raised in the book, etc.  So and so says this, but that conflicts with what whatshisname said in that, which one has the right of it, etc.

No drama, no copyright infringement, sharing if it happens will happen on the PM level not out in the open.

I like this idea. There are a million books out there and some are good or bad depending on what you are looking for. Good reviews and exchange of thoughts about the books would at a minimum, help sort which books are worth buying. I've read 8 books on WWII air combat or machinery. some were better than others. some are very technical, some are accounts and records or the careers of some of the Aces. I'd be happy to share.

I'll give it a +1

I would like any lawyers to comment here in case I am wrong, but I am not sure exchanging books is illegal.  There is a large underground of book sharers that make their books available to anyone who wants to read them for free.  They are so bold as to have huge buildings full of books.  They are called librarians.

I wonder if its something we could just start ourselves (in the Oclub)and just keep alive by bumping it? (as long as its ok with AH)
Although it would be great to have a separate area, and be able to discuss multiple books in multiple threads under the topic.

Wife just got me a 3G Kindle for Xmas (she said it was a gift, i think its because she doesn't want me to have to buy yet another book / bookcase  :lol ) THing is great!!
