Title: WoT question.
Post by: Tyrannis on January 15, 2011, 12:49:14 PM
been wondering this for awhile, but how accurate is world of tanks roster? did ever tank on there get built+see combat? i look at the american roster (currently i have a t2 medium and a t-14) and i think "wow, why didnt we use some of these tanks instead of the sherman?".

You can click on the tank in the Tech Tree to get basic info on it.  A lot of the higher Tier tanks were prototypes or concepts that never saw the light of day, let alone combat.  Then some of the tanks are from post-WWII since  it's now called a "20th century tanks" game.  If they used AH standards about 1/2 those tanks wouldn't be in there.

the field of view thing is total b.s. it should be you can allways see tanks,  but you cant tell wether they are friend/foe or what they are until they are "spotted".

Don't worry about the BS, its just a game and can be fun if you dont let things like details get in the way.

The vast majority of the current U.S. tree is made up of prototypes that never saw any real production or combat. A lot of the German mediums are prototypes, the tier 9 and tier 10 heavies are prototypes, and so is most of the top of the German artillery line. Even some of the turret and gun combinations on some of the tanks were prototypes.

The entire game is made up of fantasy combinations and prototypes for the most part, with fantasy armor ratings and all sorts of crap like that.

It's a fun game, but if you're looking for realism and historical based vehicles and the like, you'll be sorely disappointed.

started in november, played for 2 weeks then took a break for allmost a month and a half. came back and i had over 7,000 in gold  :lol bought the t-14 with some. really like the ability to convert its experiance to use as free experiance. currently trying to earn enough experiance to research the sherman using the t14 except for the dreaded lee.

Because the US armor doctrine was that tanks are for crushing through defenses and infantry so that friendly infantry could advance... NOT for engaging other tanks. That is why the US had Tank Destroyers like the M10 Wolverine and M18 Hellcat: To kill other tanks.

That's why the Shermans were garbage against the German armor which was designed to spearhead in front of infantry, crushing both enemy tanks and infantry defenses along the way.
