While flying in the arena last night, I noticed some of the usual colorful language that we flight simm jocks have to endure. Except last night was kinda special (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif). There was some looser by the handle of "terne" practically living on the open channel, "f*ck this! f*ck that!" kinda garbage.
After seeing this for a good long while, I ribbed the guy on the open channel a little and asked "Does your mother know you're on the computer?" or something to that effect. He responds with something like "My mom is dead amazinhunk". Losing my temper, I tell the guy "She shoulda whipped your bellybutton more when you were a boy :-)"
Then he goes private with this BS. If you'll notice he just called scruU a d*ckhead. I think scruU's offense was he bailed too soon for terne's taste.

Just before I logged off I noticed him call a guy an idiot for bailing before terne "could kill him"
I know I've got the squelch command, but this is pure high school bullsh*t, that in my opinion should not tolerated at all. I'm not uptight. I say plenty colorful words around the buddies, on RW, and such, but theres a time and place for everything, and the open channel is NOT (in my opinion (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)) the place for it, PERIOD.

I've seen this stuff before from terne. One night he was on a squad mate of mine just for flying a 205. He was also flying one. Just ragged on him for no reason. Just ignore him and he goes away.
He has a hard time targeting ya with bullets so he attempts shootin crap. Hey! At least he knows how to do something!
I know it is tough, but ya pay to fly and enjoy yourself not to mix it with such brabble!

Agree totally that the language in AH has gone way to far. Ive allready sent HT & Pyro screens shots of verbal abuse like that from a few others.
Im sure the Quake type servers allow this,but ive been flying online since 1989 and have never seen anything like this in any online sim.
Only hope this language thing gets better. Im no prude but i do have kids around that love to fly.
Check the language at the door & bring your ACM into the arena!

I was online when this was going on as well. This type of childish behavior, for some reason, seems to be rampant since we went to pay to play. IMO this is absolutely uncalled for. Please people, don't ruin this sim with this childish name calling.

I personal hear derogatory comments made towards myself every time I fly now. There are 2 people I squelch right after login. The banter on channel 100 last couple of days has been just downright childish.
Having gone through certain phases in flying Sims I cut people slack knowing how frustrating it can be with the learning curve.
I’ve seen it all in four years, been shot down by wingless comets, experienced twilightzone warps, watched jet powered AC’s blah…blah. I just accept them as the nature of the game and Internet
Seems now after 4 months people have developed tremendous egos. People who cannot be shot down by a mere mortal man. The kill is awarded and channel 100 lights up with” u cheater u hacker u warper” seldom we hear “wow nice shot” or “hey nice bounce”. Whinage, some people just don’t know when to cork it, funny though it only comes out after they lose the Ho. HT taught me a good lesson about a month ago. I was ranting over 100 that I thought the guy was a hack (minus and I were both shot down by a wingless burning LA5 which managed to turn fight and take massive hits). Then I heard bye-bye from HT and felt his size ten and half boot on my bellybutton (Damn think he had on his army boots that day). Boy I was livid. stewed for abet sulked awhile heh I was pathetic. Realized I wasn’t having fun anymore ranting about every little anomaly in the game .Now I just replane and think better luck next time.
Big thanks Ht now with the attitude adjustment, AH is a total Blast.

Wow. Squelch commands and word filters? Just send the guy the above screenshot and cancel his account. It seems to me it's bad business to have children who cannot act politely towards each other filling up the screen with their reproachful attitudes and language. This is a game for which I pay thirty dollars a month to have fun. The reason I play this game instead of Microsoft Combat Simulator or European Air War is for the community. We are all a bunch of computer geeks with a facination for WWII aircraft and flying. With so much in common, it amazes me that we revert to idiotic racial slurs.
I love the anonimity of the internet, by the way. It's so funny that terne has to ask if hblair is black! Jeez.
This game is as cool as the people who play it, period. It's not good business to have people like terne playing. If it were my game he would be out. I spend so much energy telling my friends and wife how cool this game is and how we are a comunity with a real passion for the sim. If she happened to be looking over my shoulder at that screenshot...
I am cutting way back on my Warbirds time to devote more attention to AH but this string and a few others I read today really give me pause. In a year and a half of Warbirds I have never heard anything like this.
I say cancel accounts. You aren't going to attract the mature, intelligent, passionate people that this game targets if the arena is full of childish, insulting, jerks spending their time attempting to ruin the other people's experience. We're all paying for this entertainment.

I couldn't agree with you more ezrust. This lack of integrity isn't something i'm willing to put up with and i feel like i'm strongly involved in this game community. The hard part is that i remember myself having this ignorance when i was 16 or 17, fearfull of life and it's immensity, it was easy to point a powerfull finger at someone and yell studmuffingot, or wetback or whatever ill-contrived slander just to try and step above my self-worthlessness. I was lucky i got to travel the world for real and learn that the human connection binds all of us. It is funny like you say that terne would ask in an internet game if hblair is black. Maybe hblair is a green chicken from Mars, who doesn't shave his underarms and sleeps hanging from the ceiling. The point is what's the difference? We are all here to play and enjoy ourselves. Each of the countries involved in WWII has and still does deal with these issues of classification and slander. The U.S. may not be guilty of the horrendous genocide that took place in Germany at that time, but by no means is it innocent. Consider the "internment" camps for American/Japanese of the time, or the civil rights movement didn't even begin to take hold here for another 15 to 20 years after that war. What makes this community really interesting is that behind all these little nicknames are numerous people of vastly differing background. And we are all connected in similar interest, and for many like me it is personal. My grandfolks lost 10 family members as they fled Prussia during the Red armies' advance. My grandfather is decorated with "nazi" medals and yet in all his fighting on the eastern front he never met an SS official. Lucky for him he was shot in the bellybutton a couple times and managed to get out to a hospital. But the toll that war had on the world isn't just limited to the 40million dead, and their friends and families. What about all those that survived to become war shocked alchoholics, abusive, neglectfull, hatefull etc. I think many of us still feel the repercussions of that war. And HOW ABSOLUTELY F**CKING WONDERFULL that we can actually share something of it here, from the comfort of our homes, peacefull, yet involved, and fascinated at the thrill of combat without that nasty side effect called death.

Just a thought- and I'm not saying you guys aren't 100% correct in your opinion- but IMHO this should be sent to Pyro or HiTech in private.
I'm glad we have people who want to see the airwaves cleaned up. I wholeheartedly agree. But when matters of this nature (possible ejection?) occur, it is best done in private.

I'm one guilty of chatting on the open channel too much.
But I'd personally hoped that the arena would be filled with paying accounts only. As it is now any tom, dick or hairy can open an account, fly for two weeks and show thier displeaure or thrill with the sim. I'm fed up with the former.
Perhaps the trianing or H2H arenas will be the free ones and the others will be the premium fly areas.
I for one sure as hell do not want to eat my words said to Wardog, over the last several months, that $30 will be a good quaker filter.
That screen shot? His behavior is absolutely discusting. And I'd thought being from latter day AW I'd seen the worst behavior one might run into in an online sim.

I too, had some "words" with Terne last nite, apparently he got upset when I kilt him while he was on approach, said he was dead stick and that killing him was B.S. (I might add that I think fite started 25 miles from his airfield as a chase, he was in P51) I responded "C'mon Terne, you had two wings, a tail and were airborn, which makes you a target!"
First off, I don't notice someones propellor if it is turing or not, if it has two wings, and is airborn, I kill it...is that wrong?
Either way, my rules of thumb are, never go private with someone that is, um, 'having a bad day', seems to only escalate into what Heath posted above. If they go private with you, squelch them and tell them on open channel that you'd rather not discuss it with them when they have the attitude they're projecting. And leave it at that.
I'm not personally going to make judgements on Terne, we all have had a day like his, I certainly won't comment on his personal assault remarks because that kind of behavior really sets me off.
Terne, if you are reading this, I think you can clear this whole thing up with a public apology to Heath. This is a friggin' game, man, lighten up, apologize, and let's get on with having fun again.

Some of us like to join in open channel more then others, some of us like to taunt and respond to taunts, but I think for the most part that is what HTC intended open channel for. This guy has problems.
Torque, I think you have been increadably patient in ingnoring open channel taunts and accusations. The people that fly rook with me and use RW will tell you that I have sworn at you a couple of times myself...But your patience has defused alot of open channel uglyness. <S>
You must be gettin old though...losing an HO to a 109f4 in an f4u1c.....

Now normaly I really wouldn't mind its only text and all.. but I was busy fighting at f22, Marmeduke(dont know if spelled correctly), cavej(spelling sorry), mino can attest to that. I was north of the Mts all night.
He comes on "hey I know what you did at f4""you did this/that to avoid kill; it counts anyway etc..." something to that effect...
I dont need syops when im fighting I ripped him with some foul dialogue, told him he was high and to leave me alone. Hopefully torque went to the proper channels and sent our dialogue to HTC. They should have the server logs that can prove my point..
Now torque I dont care about score thats why I fly early plane set so much...109f4(outclassed by almost every aircraft.) Im not going to avoid a kill by alt f4...I dont need to cheat I out fly my opponents using energy tactics and if they kill me with the exception of the ramming suicide attack, hey great kill.
Im not saying I don't complain but most of my complaining is to my own countrymen... especially when they run out on me after I helped them...(chaulk them up on the don't help list and drive on)
If you know someone is cheating tell the owners of the game don't bother the player; if he really is cheating then you can catch him the act that way.
Now as far as this bigot I'm a firm beleiver that in the foundations of the net. Free Speech... but that is usually not good for business so I say ban him if that individual is affecting other paying customers.

Mino, some folks never learn to know when to take a 'break', for instance, my 4 yr. old, doesn't know when to give it 'a rest', so he gets a time-out. Hopefully he will mature and control himself...sounds like Terne never learned, so HTC probably needs to give him "A time out" purely for the racial tones if nothing else, I can handle the language, free speech, etc. but slandering assaults are another matter.

Everyone gets mad at some point in ANY flight sim. Wether it's from warps, HO's, getting drug for miles, or just plain getting shot down. However, if you notice most that fly here have kids as do I. My son likes to sit in my lap and point out boggies. I call him my "co-pilot" (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Anyway, trying to explain to him some of the lingo seen on the radio has made it tough for me to let him watch anymore. That is just not right. If you want to scream and cuss at your monitor then go for it, but physically typing in abusive words is a willful act of "bad form". It's real easy, don't do it! HiTech and crew has already demonstrated that they are in this to make a sim THEY would want to fly in, and I get the impression that they won't hesitate to give someone the boot if they continue cussing on an open channel. Just my thoughts.

Is it time for volunteer monitors or what. HTC cant be online at all times. But who do you trust with that much power. These are paying customers, maybe a word filter would be nice one that boots you to the tower everytime you type a ugly word.But would rather have monitors if this would slow down the game.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I have an 8 year old daughter who is constantly in and out the area of my computer while I'm online, asking questions about her homework and whatnot. Not to mention my 6 and 4 year old boys. There are some words you just don't want your young kids to see or hear.
This is pretty much a man's game, and theres gonna be some coarse language here and there. I have no problem with that. But this High School bathroom crap don't get it.

Still, I can understand you making films, it was a bit...say nuts. But still, are hard drives that free where this is important to save? If they are, FWD it to HiTech. Actually, why even do that? .Squelch, go fly. This administration of personnel you guys have to assume in a whoopee game is tiresome. Someone says stupid toejam, but it’s still a message thread. It’s gone in 3 frames, and most of these guys yak so bad it runs like a one armed bandit slot-machine display wheel. So what, you see it for 1 sec? Let the TAB button go, work on ACM, stop HTML [image] tagging, you’ll be less stressed. Case in point:

Hangtime one hint, throw kitty into the dryer 5 mins prior to <punt>.
You'll find one can gain an extra 15 yards and also increase hangtime.
This technique is extremely useful for that tuff,

the prob is we have some guys who play this game in such a way that they literaly wont fight unless they have 3 types of advantage and then only in late war machines . just for instance torq is so afraid of a fair fight the idiot bails or rips his wings if alone or you on his 6 this makes me angry and from what i have heard on the open chanel when he does it to others it makes them angry also.
the late war planeset coupled with the absolutly cowardly behavior of aformentiond "person" in quest for biggest score im shure make normal red blooded american, japanese, german, english ,belgian,well damit all of umj fightin mad and when men are angry the use explicatives good for the soul if that dont do it then kill the son of a squeak , just like a real battle zone easy quick no stress.
get over it ban the kids and "ladys" and let us duke it out men dirty angry smelly FOUL MOUTHED MEN and taken no toejam off nobody ...

TOWD, you're getting off the topic of what the thread was started on. I have no problem with some foul language. I can live with it of course (If you'll notice, I aint perfect myself). But most mature(not me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)) men with famlies, who have real jobs, don't really want to come home to enjoy a game on the internet and hear childish loosers running their mouths with teenage trash talk on the open channel constantly.
Badgering and chest thumping are gonna happen too, but after every time a person dies, calling the other guy a d*ckhead just aint cool.
Thats my point.
True, I will use the squelch command. I usually do what you guys say, I just put up with it.
But when the same guy runs his mouth for literally hours, it just gets old.

For what it's worth, I think we shouldn't lose sight of the point of what made the exchange so offensive. It was not harsh language, it was the out of left field personal racial slur. I like disgusting offensive terms, and I don't use them online only out of consideration of people with kids who observe or fly with us. Racial slurs demean everybody, so keep them to yourselves please.
