Title: My CH pro throttle is sticking physically
Post by: Getback on January 18, 2011, 01:22:20 PM
It is just not sliding smoothly which is really annoying on cv takeoffs. Any advice?

If it's still under warranty, RMA it.  Otherwise, gently remove the rubber feet, grab a screwdriver and take it apart.  It could be wear, dust, grit, or whatever.  With the bottom off you should be able to see where it is sticking and fix it.

Well I am MrFixit today. Fixed my computer and then my throttle. Took it apart and almost found nothing. Then I felt the surface and it had a rough spot. Washed it with a damp cloth then scraped it with a butter knife. After I added some white lithium grease. Sure hope that doesn't eat plastic. Now it's as smooth as silk. I still haven't tested it yet but will.

Dang me, lost one of those sticky little rubber feet. Those rascals grab every thing.

Not for the actual slider that wouldn't be a good idea.  All he needs is an air can to blow away the dust and other muck that collects on the slider base.

While not nearly as bad as petroleum-based grease, yes white lithium can eventually cause issues with plastic/rubber components.  Even worse, it can harden over time and actually cause it to jam up again.  I'd recommend a silicone-based lubricant, like dielectric grease.

I don't recommend putting any sort of lubricant on the actual slider itself. Use an air can to blow any accumulated dust or gunk off the slider and if there is still some stickiness, take it apart and check for any rough spots and sand them down.  The only time you want to use any chemicals of any kind on the throttle is if you're cleaning the contact points on the potentiometer contacts and any contact cleaner would suffice for that.
