Title: Did I just overstress my wing?
Post by: Jayhawk on January 18, 2011, 04:42:35 PM
Was flying a P-51D, dove on Lancs.  He hit me some, but on my right wing, I went over top of him and pop, my left wing was gone.  My only guess is that I pulled up too hard and overstressed that wing, that just doesn't happen a lot in a P-51, especially without anything on the wings.

Thanks

Yes, you buried the needle on your accelerometer (gauge beneath the gear indicator).  Is your stick spiking at all?

Alright, I watched the Accelerometer this time, I had it maxed out for a few seconds there.  No, no spiking.

yea, it was the 9+ G's and I think the full right rudder that caused the wing to come off.
