As of January 2011, I discontinued my subscription. I've been paying in the last months without logging into arenas even once, so I'd say the game totally lost its appeal to me.
Maybe it's because I keep coming back home too tired from work, maybe it's because flying for real is so much beautiful that any simulation loses its charm, maybe it's the game itself, with arenas populated by hordes and scorew.....s (last poll, with B29 as winner, showed me pretty clearly who the average AH player is, today), poor and not (anymore) stimulating gameplay, maybe it's all of this. In any case, I don't feel like playing AH anymore and I don't see why I should keep paying the subscription; I'll keep visiting the forums, from time to time.
It's been great to be with this community in the last years, I've met some great guys in here (you know who you are) and I hope that one day I'll meet you again in the virtual sky.
Take care, guys, and bye!
<S>!

Only way to fix the average player is to beat him like a baby seal till he gets better :devil
Gian, Ive seen you on Knights for many years....sorry to see you go :salute
-
Take care man :salute
-
Before you go, you must post a full size picture of your avatar. ;)
See ya around Lupo!

Come on!!!! You can't leave us like this, it isn't fair!!!! there aren't many Italians left in the game :frown:
But i do understand, i have been takeing breaks my self, i hope anyway that you will come back...sometimes.
Yeah real flying is better, but can you shoot someone down?!!? :neener:
All the best Gian.
Un abbraccio e auguroni per il futuro.

<S> Gian...its been a pleasure flying with you these years...hope things go great for you and sometime you return. Take care and all the best !!!

Don't despair. I quit years ago after I burned out, things were just getting routine (however, most of them still make "the mistake", don't ask me--not telling.) Now I've returned and found that most everybody is better than me and I have a whole new learning curve to climb (that's most of the fun for me.) <S> and best wishes.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave...

See ya man. Had some good times flying with ya over the years.
I think the check out time for me is soon as well. Been back a month and its already losing its appeal to me.
:salute

Its truly a shame to see ya go Gian, <S>
-
Sorry to see you go. My best to you and your family.
Like you I was not keen on the B-29, but a new aircraft if better than none. :)

Arrivederci mio amico! :salute

Dude, all other points aside, which are obviously valid, your singular point about the most beautiful and awesome heavy bomber of the war being included into the game as proof that the average AH player is somehow now proven to be that of a low quality player is the only point I take exception with. You sir, are wrong on THAT point.
The Superfortress being included into this game is proof of only ONE thing. That AH is without question the very best at what it does.
I wish you well and hope the urge to participate may someday return, and that you enjoy the game then more than ever before.

Post changed due to bad wording..
My question is. If a player decides to quit the game. Why come on the BBS and speak negatively about its players? Everyone talks about wanting the game to grow with more and more players, yet complain and threaten to quit because the players are not skilled enough..
How can a game have growth without new players...
This is what I should have said to begin with..
My apologies to the op if my previous post was out of bounds...
-
:salute Gian. Hope to see you back sooner or later.
-
What is it with all of these guys coming on the BBS to whine about quitting because they no longer enjoy the game.. He uses some crap about low quality players and bombers as an excuse... See Ya Later!! I am sure that HTC will kick all of the players that you consider low quality just to fulfill your needs.. Not!! :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry

After reading several of your posts. You are either the worst troll in history. Or, you are just one ignorant mentally challenged lonely little kid angry at life because you always got beat up for lunch money. I personally think its both.

That is a good one Bi. Did it take you awhile to think of it?
Not meant to be a troll. Actually if your tired of playing the game why come on the BBS and trash the game and its players.. I will admit that after reading what I wrote, I should apologize to the originator.. I could have probably written it better.

I know of Gian for some time... his leaving AH is a big loss to the game overall. Good people are rare in here, he is one of the few I was even willing to duel (even though I always lost).
edit: I am very glad he came on to say 'good-bye', least I know he is still enjoying life somewhere. :)

yup Lupo.....sux bro you are defanitly one of the better guys, and im not talking about skill in game im talking about character....ive been gone for like hell seems like a year but its been 4 months I think, but not by choice....I truly hope you come back, it is a great game, just because the MA is full of the "mine mine mine" mentality crowd, shouldnt make ya quit, on the other hand, flying in real life.......hmm that may be a good reason....anyway good luck in life and be safe.~Paul

Have you tried air racing (AHXRL or Enduro or Sassafras)? Have you flown the RV-8? I know for me this was & is now the one thing that keeps me going, that I enjoy the best. Get a two week freebie & check us out. We are the adults and a tighter group you will not find. I am leading the Enduro Season 3 points. That is one race a month for 10 months. Bombing, hanger passes & refueling are our way of racing. It is tough but everyone is willing to help the newbies. The RV-8 is a squrrley little minks and I did not know it is in the game till I raced it. If you like real flying it is just like the real RV-8 (so I am told), no guns and small enough to fit through the small hanger doors. Good Luck and remember - There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old, bold pilots :)

<S> Gian! Have a great time in the real skies.

#S# Gian! It's been great sharing the virtual skies with you over the past few years. Hope all goes well with you and your family in the real world.

maybe it's because flying for real is so much beautiful that any simulation loses its charm
Heh. You'll get over that!
...er...what kind of plane is it that you fly?

Sad to hear this Gian :( but I'm confident you'll be back bro til then take care and good luck with real life :salute

If you like real flying it is just like the real RV-8 (so I am told),
:airplane: Really close to real thing and not "squrrley" we call it responsive. :)

Gian.....I do understand your thinking.
We'll keep the porch light on for ya.

Really hate to see the great players leave, but I always appreciate the farewell thread, as well as hearing their reasons. Much preferred over wondering whatever happened to them and never knowing. Hope you come back some day.

:salute It was always a pleasure to hear your distinctive voice on range channel, especially when the fight was intense. You're a class act Gian, it's been fun to fly with you.

Wow, so much love in a game of war? Something's obviously wrong in this game! :D
Anyway, three posts, the first one about the whining about the whines! ;)
I dont' know you and I think we never met in game or in BBS, but I'm sure that, unless you're very *very* young, life's already put you in a situation where you have/decide to leave a place where you were hanging around, having fun with people with whom you became acquainted or friend.
Well, I guess you too had to drop in one last time to say good bye, isn't it? And, naturally, your pals asked you why you have or decide to leave. So, make no mistakes, this isn't a whine thread, this a bye-bye thread, to say to all the people I've met and befriended in this wonderful game that they won't find me online anymore (except on BBS from time to time) and to explain to them why I feel the need to spend differently my free time. I must confess that laziness betrayed me in one point, because I copied part of the OP from the one I posted in my squad private forum, so certain adjectives and names were too strong: for those I apologize, if someone recognized himself in that description and felt offended. Of course, that doesn't change my feelings toward the arenas gameplay nowadays.
There are many things that kept me from logging into other arenas (AvA, special events, et cetera), but that would take too much to tell, so let's leave it for another post or thread, maybe (yeah, michaelrkerr, I'd love to make air races, but it's high night in Italy when you race :( )
-
Number two, for Yaeger!
Dude, all other points aside, which are obviously valid, your singular point about the most beautiful and awesome heavy bomber of the war being included into the game as proof that the average AH player is somehow now proven to be that of a low quality player is the only point I take exception with. You sir, are wrong on THAT point.
Don't get me wrong, sir, I love flying and I love airplanes and I totally agree with you, the B29 was the most awesome heavy bomber of the war and one beautiful plane (not sure if the most beautiful); my assertion is based not on the plane, but on the never ending bunch of threads in the Wishlist forum and elsewhere in the BBS, that I'm sure you have read, where people requested this plane loudly and mostly for all the wrong reasons. That's what made me think that this last poll result was a sign of the deterioration of the gameplay. Again, I'd like to add more on the topic, but this is not the right thread and occasion, so let's drop it.
Thanks for your wishes and, if you want to keep the discussion about the B29 and gameplay, please, let's do it in another thread.
-
Number three, for all the other guys, who just dropped by to say bye!
Thank you all so much!
For those who asked, I fly Tecnam P92 in its various incarnation: here's a picture of the planes I rent at my flying club (click to enlarge):
(http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg32/gianlupo/th_Gliaereidelclub.jpg) (http://s244.photobucket.com/albums/gg32/gianlupo/?action=view¤t=Gliaereidelclub.jpg)
It's LSA in US, ultralight for Italian regulations (sorry, Michaelrkerr, no RV-8).
Iena, grazie mille! One day I hope I'll land with my own airplane at Copenhagen's airport and visit you! ;)
I know of Gian for some time... his leaving AH is a big loss to the game overall. Good people are rare in here, he is one of the few I was even willing to duel (even though I always lost).
Are you sure you remember that correctly? ;) Maybe it's because you were flying that twinboom bombers of yours, while I was in a real fighter! :D
Keep up with the RL aviation...and I want a ride if I ever manage to venture your way! ;)
BTW, you can still participate: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,303737.0.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,303737.0.html) ;)
You'll be welcome! But if work turns in the right direction, maybe after dropping by in Copenhagen to see Iena, I'll fly to Virrat in my own little plane and take you guys out for a ride! :)
I know, what you mean..
Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdBOUUpJd0Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdBOUUpJd0Y)
Yeah, Sasmox, you know the feeling! :) Is that wasq, flying alongside in his new plane? I envy him! :devil
Again, thank you all so very much, all of you... especially those who said that I'm a good guy and a class act... you don't really know me, fools! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahrrgg.. cough... cough.... :D
EDIT: Btw, I almost forgot... for all the fans, I'll find a full sized picture of that avatar! :devil

cmon gian bro,
this is going to descend into group hugs and tearful farewells. This wouldn't be very manly of any of us!
Take it easy mate  :salute

 :uhoh :huh ......
:cry
-
I can see you were in the "Dog Fighters Club" which means you are top notch virtual pilot, <S> hope all goes well :airplane: :salute
-
Nope, it just means that I wasn't afraid of mixing it up with red airplanes and I always did my best to give a good fight to my opponent, without caring about the score; it meant that, for me, the fight was the goal of the game, not victory.
-
:salute Gian
Yeah, Sasmox, you know the feeling! :) Is that wasq, flying alongside in his new plane? I envy him! :devil
Yep, thats me with the starry plane. :t
-
Awwwwwww, you lucky guy! I want mine, too! :)
Btw, great video, I love flying over snow!

Sorry to see you go Gian, I really am. You are one of the truly good players. Only you can know what's best for you, and I wish you all the luck in the world!
Take care, my Friend,
TeeArr :salute

sorry to see you go Gian. Don't log in myself much for many of the same reasons. In truth, some of it comes just from being burned out. See ya when you get back :) <S>

See ya Gian! <S>
Sorry to see you go, I dont fly much myself anymore.
-
Nope, it just means that I wasn't afraid of mixing it up with red airplanes and I always did my best to give a good fight to my opponent, without caring about the score; it meant that, for me, the fight was the goal of the game, not victory.

Remember our talks about those Italian women? Hmmmm?

Return home soon G!
-
:salute Gian.
Ill never forget the time we were fighting the horde and when I yelled I was rtb winchester, you told me to go land while you tackled like 5 guys. I looked back and felt bad that you were starting to get ganged, so I figured I could chase at least a couple of them off, you then proceeded to start YELLING insisting on me landing my kills :lol
You are a true class act and I certainly hope you rethink your absence in the AH skies
-
Sorry to hear that Gian. We all gonna miss you. Hope we wiil see you again in HTC Arenas sometime. <<S>>
Good luck and happy landings with your RL flying.

Ahhh.. Gianlupo... You were a Knight pilot I always enjoyed flying near or around. We never said much, but I recall with fondness our time in HTH and our few times winging up loosely in the same sectors. I hope your stay away won't be permanent.
P.S. It's SILVER! Not WHITE! :lol

<S> Gian!

salute Lupo see you around bud

Cya Gian, now I'm the only Lupo in game :(
On a more serious note, it was a pleasure the couple times I had the chance to fly with/against you. :salute

Feeling exactly the same, with the same opinion about the B-29.
Still paying but not playing.
Bye Gianlupo, take care! :aok :salute

Gian-
Oh Noes! I'm too late! After 2+ years away, I reactivated my account just in time to see John the Wolf leave!
It's been years since we messed about in H2H, and since we MA winged in Ki-84s - but I still remember those few times, lots of fun. I'll miss seeing you around!
As has been said, you've been a class act. Hope that you'll be back when the ennui wears off, and I hope that when you make it back I'll have gained enough practice that I can keep up with the newly RUSTY GianLupo!
