Now that I have your attention......no, I'm not quitting.
I know that will make some of you unhappy, especially perhaps lately, Hitech and Pyro. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
I didn't know where else to post this since there's such a feeding frenzy of old and new threads, all hollering about the same matter, so I am taking the risk of getting flamed for yet another new topic. I did that because I do think the issue is important enough for everyone to stop and think for a second.

I think there's a HUGE misunderstanding by the AH customer base as to exactly what HTC is proposing with this UBER plane idea.
In my opinion, the user base is over reacting to the wrong issue. There seems to be a growing misconception that a player will be somehow excluded from flying high end CURRENT or future planes, if they don't have good enough scores or some such nonsense, which is NOT the case !!!!!
I believe HTC simply wants to have an UBER plane available, one that would most likely never have seen combat and was probably a late or post war entry. I have no idea what it would be, but perhaps something like the P61 "Black Widow" etc. I don't even know if my example really ever existed, as I'm not really a WWII plane historian, so I can't really give you good examples (Funked....help me.....examples?) It would be most likely an exotic kind of plane that if introduced into the arena in quantity (generally available), it would completely upset and destroy game play balance.
The idea is to make it sort of an award for the top scorer or whatever the decision process would be to award it. In WB for example, the top 3 scorers for the tour in an arena get their name posted in the sign-on screen. If this kind of example was how winners would be determined here on AH (not saying that's what it is !), they would get an option to select that plane in the hanger and fly it for some period of time. Can you imagine the rest of the arena participants? They would be having a riot being on one huge dweeb hunt, something like you get when WB lets that "KILLME" character loose and awards the guy who gets him with tee-shirts. Conversely, if you have won the dweeb plane and get killed flying it, besides being embarrassed, you are punished in future scoring somehow and the victor who nailed you gets some form of bonus. If handled properly, it could be kind of exciting and generate some plain FUN, which is what it should be all about, certainly in the "let's please everyone" MA.
Personally, I think it's a fantastic marketing idea, unique to AH and not available in competitive products.

I'm not a very talented or terrific player, so probably won't get to fly the "dweebmobile" on-line, but I really can't wait to get my shot at hunting down the guy who won the right to fly the critter and is actually using it. If I nailed him, it would be my personal 15 minutes in the sun. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Maybe eventually, we could also have an UBER tank which couldn't be taken out by planes for us ground pounders. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) A German Maus or Royal King Tiger on the prowl. Now that would be exciting for guys like me who enjoy driving tanks. Whatever, but I think you get the idea of how it could stimulate renewed interest from time to time, due to "same old...same old" burn out syndrome that goes on with many of these on-line Sims.
Three personal observations for Hitech and Pyro. I would love it if it was available in OFF-LINE mode for all of us so I could fly it to get a feel for its capabilities. Second, I would also like to see it's icon as a UNIQUE identifier (color?..size?...pic of a Pyro?...hehe), whatever, so I could holler "Dweeb Hunt !!" over channel 100. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Finally, no jets as I think it's kind of obvious, mundane and trite, taking away from the marketing pizzazz of being a prop simulation.
You know something, more creative ideas like this and it actually might get this old "stuck up" realism bigot back into the MA for some good old fashion FUN!!! You think maybe Hitech and Pyro are onto something here? I do.....again, congratulations HTC. Innovation without destroying playability.
HITECH/PYRO...if I also have misunderstood the planned implementation of this marketing idea, please correct me so I don't look like a complete fool.

It's the way I've always understood it. I just wish many people would just shut the 'eff' up for once and stop dramatising thier imagined misfortunes to come. If they'd stop spouting these half baked and ill thought out predictions of the inevitable doom & gloom based on a feature not even implemented and just went with the flow till they could actually see a problem then this newsgroup would be a better place to visit.

For what it's worth, my interpretation is that it's not only going to be the best pilots that get fly these planes (or tanks). It's obvious that the best will get such planes more often, but even an uber plane is not invincible if you catch them right. If you lose a lot of points when you get shot down in your uber ride then it will equalise out how often the super pilots get the supper planes. I would have though it was only natural such planes will be available offline, and H2H.

I like the concept but IF done wrong there is going to be a LARGE increase in complaints and loss of customer base. HTC is treading thin ICE on this one. Be careful is all I can say. FOr the DIE HARD SIm pilot this is no big deal but for a newbie who really wants to fly that TA152 but because of lack of skill he may never get that chance.... Food for thought!
I personnaly like it just thinking for the other 1/2 of your customer base that keeps HTC in business.

hehe...I just thought of something funny, but intriguing.
How about a very simple reward for the guy who bags Mr. Uberplane?
The children's game of TAG. If you nail him, you're "IT" and get to use the dweebmobile until someone tags you.
Just a thought, hmmmm...might be dumb....
hmmmmm...maybe it's something separate, but coexists with the high scorer uberplane thing, that permits guys like me who would never score high enough, a real chance of using one of these beasts on-line. Sort of like winning a lottery....hmmm...a lottery....another idea maybe. Monthly draw from new sign-ups barrel for a free use of it....hmmm...ideas..ideas..id eas....

Dunno if this idea has popped up yet, so here goes:
How about holding a lottery, where each tour a set number of uber rides are doled out. The lucky pilots of this "Uber Lottery"(tm) get to fly their uber mounts until they are shot down. The person who shot them down now gets the uber ride until they get shot down. This way, the uber rides get passed around from person to person. And if the ack weenies get the kill, the plane goes into a general pool, to be awarded in the next lottery.
This would give people like me who don't get that many hours of AH flight time per week a real chance to fly the Uber rides.

How about an auction for real money to fly a limited # of super planes. Highest bidders would receive access to a limited number of "lives" for one tour. To make it a worthwhile cause, send the money to a charity.
Can you see the possible headlines and the potential free advertising? "Online Air Combat simulation community donated $$$$$ dollars to [insert large international charity here]. HiTech Creations founder, Doug Balmos, announced the donation at the first annual convention for the Aces High online community......"

If I'm forced to fly a set of planes that’s different than some others in AH then I'll be canceling my account.
I have no problem with putting the "top scores" names on a splash screen somewhere or rewarding them in some other fashion, be it t-shirts, hats, maybe even some free online time.
My $30 a month is the same as everyone else’s and I better be able to fly any damn plane at ANY time (Historical Arena excluded).
If someone is concerned about his or her score, (and many are) it's fine with me. You play the game the way you want to and I'll play the game the way I want. I gave up on caring about my score some time ago and I have a much better time in AH now.
If the idea is to give a person that truly does care about their score a chance to fly an even better plane, it's like giving massive tax cuts to the rich and raising taxes for everyone else!
I'd also think this would promote cheating more (killing friend’s etc.) Pilot sends a private message to his friend on a different country "Hey man I'm tired of the Me262 go to 9,10,5 and I'm on the deck hiding.. come kill me so you can have the plane I need to go” Then only the people that are friends with the "elite scoring players" would get the elite planes.
I'm confident HiTech has thought this through and would never get his company into this mess.
To clarify: I like the idea of rewarding players that care about their scores but NOT by giving even more advantages.

German aircraft designers at the end of WW2 were coming up with some amazing designs . Many of these designers were later used by both the Russians , Americans , English and even Australia. Many of these designs were way ahead of their time whilst others were dead ends.
Dr. Alexander Lippisch designed this ramjet-powered interceptor in late 1944. Much of the research came from his work on the DM-1 test glider. The wings were sharply swept back at 60 degrees and there was a single large fin and rudder in which the cockpit was located. The ramjet was fed by a circular intake that protruded from the nose and exhausted beneath the vertical fin at the rear. A liquid fueled rocket motor was planned for takeoff and to get the aircraft to ramjet operating speed. Since fuel was in short supply powdered coal was to be used in the ramjet.

How aboout this. At the beginning of TOD everyone gets the uber plane. The not so very good pilots will be shot down sooner than the good pilots. So at the end of TOD the "good" pilots will still have their uberplane. Kind of like the last man still flying wins the right to finish TOD with the shiney new ride. If this is a way to work very late planes into the game then it seems like a very lame way to get around a rolling plane set. custom built for resentment. How do we then work in early war planes? I shudder to think.
Still, the amount of pain caused by this idea will be directly proportional to the amount of people given this unfair advantage. If it is only one and his icon is blue... That would be one thing.... If it is the top 20% or whoever reaches a cetain score level, or, a random number, that would be quite another.
To sum it up, I don't want to be killed (or even watch out for) a bunch of uber planes. I also have no interest in killing other planes with an Uber plane that is not on the plane choice list for everyone.
Seems sorta like rewarding a very good heavyweight boxer by letting him box middleweights.

staga agree that if i pay i fly...i played airattack long ago and got really annoyed when better planes kicked my bellybutton contantly so i just hope it wont happen here.what if when you got uber plane you became an enemy to all countries? all vs ubers would be fun

All vs Uber.. I like it. To be perfectly honest, I don't want the ubers, even if I did get to fly them. Sounds too much like an arcade game. I am by no means a sim purist, as this is the first sim I have ever flown, and have been hooked from the beginning. I did get copies of each of the "other" sims on demo disks, and must say that the arcade qualities of the the unbalanced plane sets, etc. lead me to delete them from my drive, not even keeping them for some brainless fun once in a while. I say ubers, shmubers, let's complete the plane set with comparable era planes to what we have now, with one big, blue, bfg firing exception. I am hearing grumblings among many pilots who have been flying for years and are highly skilled, that the "dweebishness" factor is getting to the point that they are staying away except for scenarios. I still thoroughly enjoy the sim, and fly every chance I get, but I totally understand their frustration. I say make the game complete, then maybe add the arcade qualities to it in a seperate arena... yeah, that's it. Leave the ubers out of the main arena, and create a "ubers only" arena, where no "regular" planes are allowed. If someone flies in the uber arena, he can't whine about being killed by a low skill pilot in a unfairly lethal machine... he entered the uber arena of his own free will, and the rest of us can fight it out more realistically in the "regular" arena.
