can someone give me a video on youtube or something on how to do this? i try and try but i can never get it right.
i always end up stalling out or augering :bhead

Something like this?

Mess around w/ different control inputs, you'll find moves you thought impossible.

well thats nice but it doesnt help. i would like to see what input you need for it, ex): forward stick, left rudder low throttle ect...

All I did was an aileron roll to the left, the torque of my 109 did the rest. I had full flaps and pointed my noise up a bit in a right turn, my plane was going slow enough that it just flopped over and stalled when I rolled left... Lots of rudder/throttle control to recover.
Try this, put your plane in a 90 degree climb and at 100-120mph pull back on the stick with full left ailerons and right rudder. Depending on what you try it in you should get a 180 type tailslide maneuver.

That's a nice move but it's not a tailslide. In the video it looks like he slides backwards but I'd like to see what the AH film looks like. I expect the viewpoint is shifting at that point.
A tailslide is an aerobatic maneuver that's generally not used in air combat because it makes you such a nice target.

Edit: Found the film in another thread. Krupinski is actually sliding sideways for a bit when inverted wings level. Very nice. :aok

When I would teach people the ability to "PROP HANG" or teach them to fly their airplane in such a manner termed "Hanging on the Prop"
I would give them the following advice, this is just a quick run through of how to go about it, and the end result will give you the possibility of doing some tail slides
here goes:
- take off, gain speed and get up to a decent altitude say 8,000 to 10,000 ft
- get up to speed say 325 to 400 IAS <--- IAS is indicated Air speed the WHITE Needle
- once up to speed and properly trimmed, pull up smoothly but quickly pointing nose straight up
- the plane will begin to slow down and lose speed quickly...leave the throttle Wide Open
- while climbing straight up, use your left or right views to keep your plane's nose perpendicular to the horizon (shore line / skyline )
- use very small stick inputs to the aileron's to cross control the plane's torque roll tendancy
- "sometimes" not always, but sometimes one may need a very small bit of rudder input as well
- watch the speed indicator gauge and watch as it drops to 150, 100, 75, 50, 25, 10, 0 MPH
- once all forward momentum has stopped see how far you can tail slide down before the nose comes around on you
that is about the jest of it, it takes a lot of practice, but trust me it is doable and depending on the plane type you use , one might be able to even tail slide 100 ft to over 1,000 ft vertically down.....
some other tips that may help:
- sometimes dropping 1 or 2 notches of flaps as you near stalling of the climb ( DO NOT DROP 3 , 4 OR All Flaps, the plane will just flip over on its back
- once forward momentum stops , chop throttle to zero
- use manual trim and have the trim set for a level flight speed of 325 IAS to 350 IAS
- turn on the RED/BLUESmoke in the Training arena or offline and watch the smoke change directions as you slide back down
have fun, practicing this will also help one learn how to Hang on the Prop, and help one learn how to drag an opponent to make them stall out
now go practice :old:

I totally agree with ya FLS........ one shouldn't be doing tail slides just to be doing them......
also, I do not suggest people to do them in combat....... my post above was just a side effect from teaching people how to prop hang
-
Occasionaly you can use them as a last ditch move....
ex..
1)snap the rudder to flip the nose up, then use the engine torque to do a flat spin while upside down.
2) when a situation becomes too hairy, ie to many cons.. execute a tail slide.. fall 1000 feet, and get the h*ll out of dodge.

so how good would this work in a la5fn?

No offense but if I was you, I would work on learning ACM maneuvers that are helpful in combat and not air show aerobatic maneuvers that will only dazzle the bandit on your six for a moment or two before he fills your plane full of lead.

I consider goingout with style to be me against 8 and when I die...there aren't 8 anymore :devil

this is an acrobatic tailslide that actually worked out in reversing someone. It was just me goofing around w/ ardy (bunnies) in a late night 109 session flying like an idiot doing upside down merges and stuff. No real ACM factor just cool looking and silly.

once again, you have helped me not one bit. im trying to learn this so if i ever get in a pinch where the enemy knows what im doing i can try one last ditch effort to try to get him to over shoot and let me get in on him

skorpion, Ack Ack actually did offer you the best advice possible
you quoted him with the below reply
once again, you have helped me not one bit. im trying to learn this so if i ever get in a pinch where the enemy knows what im doing i can try one last ditch effort to try to get him to over shoot and let me get in on him
even if you was to learn how to do a good tail slide, it in no way would let you be able to make your opponent overshoot and you be able to retain the energy/speed/maneuverability to "Get in on him"
I recommend you follow up on what Ack Ack posted:
No offense but if I was you, I would work on learning ACM maneuvers that are helpful in combat

one must learn the basic BFM's, everything else is derived from BFM's............ practice them until they become second nature, and also practice exercising your SA ( Situational Awareness ) to maximize it to your best ability....

Holy sextuple post, Batman!
yeah really...... I even closed out my browser and went got me a drink. came back and made a completely new post almost 8 minutes in between there and nothing was showing still..... so I would stop it. hit refresh, nothing was showing to be posted etc... close browser, start over.....
then all at once all 6 popped up on my end......
my internet provider must be experiencing trouble

Wow Tequila! Most I ever had was three, you shattered my record... :lol
Anyway, the manuever is a nifty little show-stopper but will not deter or shake a semi-experienced pilot. Master the basics, then worry about cool moves when you have achieved the level of skill that folks like Krupnski, Ack-Ack and some other notables in this thread have achieved. Ack's advice to you is on the money...
:salute

that or they hate you for not paying your bill on time so they like to mess with ya' :D

untill you understand ACM and they become second nature, stuff like a "tail slide" is moot....get in there and fight, get yourself to be able to use the plane on the edge, and then youll understand exactly how your plane reacts to your inputs, and then the tailslide will be a no brainer, learning the ins and outs of your plane of choice is far more important, and then learning the all the other planes, youll see a tail slide is nothing, and actually can hurt you. Its NOT a ACM.
