Title: Pillot Wound Effects
Post by: Penguin on January 24, 2011, 05:17:36 PM
The pilot wound system is nice, but is unsatisfactory.  Firstly, the pilot needs to grunt, scream, or at least moan upon being hit.  Nextly, the camera needs to wobble a bit as he blacks out, to simulate losing control.  Finally, the pilot must bemoan is injury with increasing urgency as death approaches, giving players a audio clue as to how long they have left.

The grunt, scream, or moan would replace the current sound of the pilot being made from aluminum.  It doesn't sound right, and a replacement is definetely in order.  Free or low cost sound files are availible all over the internet, and implementation is a snap.  However, not only should the pilot wail, upon blacking out can be slightly more realistic.

If the pilot were wounded, as he blacked out he would literally slip into unconsiousness.  The camera ought to reflect this with a slight wobble effect on the way out.  It doesn't seem right that he just gets right back in position after taking a .303 to the nuts.  Also, death brings distress, and this needs an auditory acknowledgement.

This guy has just been shot, and after nearly getting :ahand to him, he needs a medic, and fast.  In our game, he seems to be like Terminator, feeling no pain, just a loss of blood.  Simple mentions of missing body parts or the redness of the glass would be fine, and even a dramatic exit with the head tipping back completely before the final blackout.

The pilot, when wounded, seems to feel no pain, and be unaffected by his new bodily cavity.  He needs to cry out upon being hit, as any man would.  He ought to bemoan his fate, gritting his teeth and moaning as the pain comes on in waves.  Finally, head motion, especially upon the final blackout, is essential.  This is a man, not superman, and ought to behave as such.

While reading this, I had a thought about what it must have been like for a real WWII pilot  in the same situation. Scary is an understatement...Salute all Wounded and killed WWII pilots. :salute :salute :salute :salute :salute

Your wish sounds a heck of a lot like a demand.

If you want the sound changed, go ahead and do it on your own system.

Remember, YOU are suppose to be the pilot.  Whenever you get shot, stick a knife into your leg and let that be your "more realistic" wound.  :aok

I'd prefer that the pilot damage to be modeled like aircraft damage.

Examples.

Shot in left arm:  No use of left arm controls

Shot in right arm: No use of right arm controls

Shot in left leg: No rudder controls or left wheel brakes

Shot in right leg: No rudder controls or right wheel brakes

Shot in body:  Progressive black out; black haze fills the screen until you go to full black and die.

Shot in head:  Progressive black out; black haze fills the screen until you go to full black and die.

I won't deny, I'm a hardcore squeaker, 'till the day I die.  :rock

However, my written speech (hopefully) mimics the more intelligent verbiage of you grown-up's.

You do not, but you have in the past been known to post before thinking. I wouldn't mind having more than just a small grunt when a bullet pegs you somewhere, though.

Yes, I've been diagnosed with foot in mouth disease.

Pun on the life threatening disorder foot and mouth disease, and on the use of "IN" when a thread is about to be locked

for some reason, often my canon in the 109 gets hit and goes out. The canon is between the pilots legs on a 109....

does that mean that with this idea, now Bunnies can't procreate when they get hit in the kin pump?

The pilot does grunt when he gets hit.  And last time I checked, the camera does wobble away into a blackout.  I don't see how blood curdling screams will add to my gameplay but maybe hitech can coad this in just for you.

Odd, I haven't noticed that happening.  It seems to be a stiff, unnatural thing.  But come on, who can resist the thought of bloodcurdling screams?  :t

I think the current sound is bad enough.  It sounds like a large piece of metal flying at a high speed hitting a human body with a dead thud.

I personally like the sound that the ACK makes as it rips through your body as you float down in a chute.  It's kind of a squishy *splat*.  Almost like a runny fart.

I can tell you what will happen. Penguin will be really good friends with Nate in a short space of time.

And it would turn Ard.... I mean Bunnies into Botkins (NanoCrew) reeeal fast.  :bhead

I like the idea of the head view drop, when passed out, blood curdling screams no. These guys were tough as nails,  unless they were actually burning alive I couldnt imagine them screaming, maybe cussing but we know that aint gonna happen.

Perhaps have the sound reflect the players age?  So if your a squeaker, you have to ear in your ear an annoying cry followed by an endless rant about needing mommy to kiss it to make it better!

I think some things are better left to the imagination. AH doesnt need to be a gorefest with blood curdling screams and missing appendages. There are plenty of games already out there with that. JMHO

You already get most of the things you asked for. The head moving about as you black out. the thud of something pegging you. You already have it.
