Well, that certainly was a comprehensive analysis.   :uhoh.

Plenty of arenas.  To each their own.

Jamusta,

It is hard to take your criticism seriously without any reasons for your opinion.  This week's setup, is one of the freshest.  Where else do you get to fly sim Italian aircraft over a sim map of Italy, against other sim fighters of the same theater of operation?

I also, have problems with arena settings, due to my poor graphics settings, but this does not negate all the positives that only this arena has to offer.

Now, this is what I have a problem with.  I don't see a lot of planes both friendly and enemy.  They just look like lint on my screen

This is how I have adjusted my flying to the arena settings.  I find it necessary to communicate much more and check my surroundings including radar, much more often.  The best tactic to get the best view of planes is to fly in the weeds.  Flying up high, you are going to need a good wingman, and learn to identify any lint on your screen that is moving.

I wish that you would consider to wing with me, just once and allow me to hear you out on some of your criticisms.  I have a feeling they may be some of mine too, and maybe little by little these things that hinder your fun, will become less of an issue.

*edit* never mind.  No matter how well thought out and profound it might have been.

Thanks for giving it a try.

Jamusta is an old-time vet who's been absent for quite awhile.  A large proportion of old-time vets initially react unfavorably to the no-icons settings, as we've seen for the past year.  Jam doesn't explain if this is the reason for his disgruntlement, or if it's the changes in tactics or even the personalities present in the arena that evening, but probably it's one or more of the above.

Give it another try, Jam, it does take several hours to get used to it, but once most people do that they really don't want to go back.

chilli......flying high, it's just as easy to see the other aircraft....as long as they're co-alt or higher.

Im sorry Jam.I feel a bit responsible.
Jam was understandably frustrated as he got shot down allot then left in a huff.. .I didn't know it was you. Although when I did have a gun solution on your AC my computer would freeze and you were warping allot at the most inopportune times, it happend only with your AC.. Perhaps part of your issue was your connection?

Its very frustrating getting shot down especially with no icons . I have gotten hot under the collar myself .but i realise Its my own fault when I get shot down. Not the arenas.
Stick with it Jam your a good stick. If you can hack it you will not want to fly in your DA anymore with all those icons and spit 16s and EXTERNAL views..

Constantly flying in the weeds is not what flight Sims should be all about IMO.

At times its essential . I would not recommend it as a quality tactic as a norm  my stay down there.

For me its much easier to see cons in the sky and merges at alt makes ACM's ect much more useful. just my opinion.

Flying in the weeds was working pretty well several months back then regular players adjusted to it and tactics evolved.  I still do it from time to time if I have the opportunity to bounce someone that way and I'm, in the rare instance anymore, alone.

One of the other more fun aspects of the AVA.  People start flying one way, the other side adjusts, and it just keeps evolving.  A much different and, to me, more satisfying experience than other offerings in this game.

I do need to get with Grumpy to learn at least a little gv skill.  He's a frigging assassin in a tank.

I can't speak for Jam but I can give you my observation.  Last night started out great fun fights then I went to the MA for a bit to fly with my squad.  When I came back the axis had more so I went Allied.  Our airfield was totally covered with red.  It looked like a 5v2 right as you took off.  So I upped farther back.  I even saw axis saying this is overboard I'm out.  To the axis credit they did pull back but I have no idea how long this had been hapening.  I will also say if it's 5v1 or 5v2. And only one of the 5 is engaging it's still difficult to keep up.  Also when I finally got to the fight the guys where high and BNZing which is technically the way you should fly a 109.  Just like how pand only runs and picks in the pony perfect strategy.  But how much fun?   Jam it's usually really fun try it again but everyone is human here and wants to win so when it gets crazy I just go to the MA for a while.

Yes, by all means, fly high.  It's an effective tactic.   :D

to easily spot cons....you either need to fly in the weeds, or fly above 6k agl. that i think is the zoom alt of most fighters...........

We fly squad night on Tuesday and try to get two sorties in as a squad before going free play. lately it hasn't been a problem, there has been plenty of opposition. The problem is that some times you can be right in the middle of a sortie when the numbers flop.

Having two folks on the other side, in the arena but not flying, also skewed the numbers.

When we first took off, the numbers were like 6-5 but then when we saw that there were only two rooks in flight, 3 of us broke off and headed out to sea and didn't come back into the combat area till the numbers in flight evened out a bit.

If we know the numbers are lopsided before take off, we will often split into two flights and have one fly a jabot on an out of the way strat or something, until numbers even out.

I may have been one of the 2 that was AFK last night. I wasn't in the right frame of mind to get serious about flying and was getting my butt shot up left and right... would have been a good night to have stayed away. I think it was Shifty that even tried to assist me and get me headed the proper direction...that was much appreciated.
