Title: Lost packets
Post by: airbumba on January 26, 2011, 08:32:28 AM
Hey ya'll:

I read some of the info in Skuzzapedia concerning this subject, but first I want to know if I even have a packet loss problem, so I did a ping from AH and got this:

I average 60 to 110, but it spikes to 5203 at seemingly regular intervals,
Sent               250
Rec.               250
Packet loss      17

I removed a P2P program, but it's only been about 15 hours or so, I'll test again after 24 hrs. Along the same lines, if I run through a wired router to one other machine, and the other machine is still running a P2P program, am i still getting whacked by the P2P program on this machine? (I fear so).

So , first, is that loss a problem? secondly what about the P2P thingy?

If worse comes to worse, I'll bypass router when planning a long AH session, and during the scenario.

Thanks in advance for any advice,.

Running any P2P programs on your LAN is going to impact every computer on the LAN.

Peer-to-peer.  BitTorrent and other file sharing utilities.  Many games use the BitTorrent libraries, such as World of Warcraft.  Be careful to be sure they are not set to allow your computer to act as a server.
