Post by: Melvin on January 31, 2011, 12:25:24 AM
You know, music groups that consist of famous artists.

I'll get it started.

Traveling Wilburys. Sorry about the ad.

Temple of the Dog. No ad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjNjJR9jUGo

First person to post the "Eagles" loses. the "Eagles" are awful.

If you enjoyed the Temple of The Dog you should also check out the album "Stone Free" which was put out as a tribute to the Jimmy Hendrix.  The last track on the album is attributed to M.A.C.C. which is a similar lineup to Temple of the Dog (Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Matt Cameron, Chris Cornell). It's a great track.

You're right Golfer.

Any less and you'd be in trouble though. The bar has been set, and set high folks.

Keep 'em coming.

Way to go Soulyss.

EDIT: No Young in the CSN. You lose a point, and therefore lose it all with the "Eagles". They suck.

I left the &Y off for a reason.

You snuck Blind Faith in on an edit.

That puts you back into win status.

(Please refrain from the "Eagles" for my sake.  :rofl )

Here's a good one.

Queens of the Stone Age.

This is my favorite Traveling Wilbury song....

She's My Baby!

Sure do wish Roy Orbison had hung around a little longer. That man could play some music and isn't one that most people remember or think about as a great musician.

You just happened to post this one before I saw the thread.  Dang man that was a good group as well.

You snuck Blind Faith in on an edit.

They were there in the original post.  Only the YouTube videos and Blues Brothers were added.  I didn't want to be redundant with the Blues Brothers and the Gator Boys at first but they're separate so I added Jake and Elwood and crew to the mix.

The Eagles do not fall into the category of "super group".  The group is not comprised of formerly famous people, with the exception of Joe Walsh.  One hot-shot hired-gun guitarist does not a super group make.

Does Rage Against the Machine firing their "singer" and hiring Chris Cornell constitute Audioslave as a super group?

They had a classic bit they'd do onstage--Tommy Shaw would play the hideous opening notes to  Styx's "Babe", and Ted would run across the stage, grab the guitar out of Tommy's hands, and smash it to pieces. That pathetic she-male (Dennis Deyoung?) and his pushy fat wife complained to NOOoo end, and they quit doing it :(

You forgot Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young all stars in their own right previously.  Steven Stills with Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young with everybody.

Stepehen Stills was also a single performer as well as David Crosby before forming Crosby, Stills and Nash. Their first live performance was at Woodstock.

Man I used to love some Mr. Bungle.  Not a supergroup by any means, but a pretty badass band.  Thans for posting that Tomahawk Phatzo!

I was referring to Golfer's omission of the 'Y' in his original CSN post.  :lol

Apparently, Golfer doesn't care much for Neil.

To the OP, the Eagles do not suck. Their new songs do indeed suck, but their old songs are top 100 material. That is all.

The first real supergroup was Al Kooper (founder Blood Sweat & Tears, before their bubble-gum era), Stephen Stills and Mike Bloomfield in 1968 or so

Exellent choice! A lot of musicians gave Asia members hell for "selling out". It was just a bunch of Prog rockers wanting to do radio friendly material. Envy is an ugly thing!
