Title: Late Night AAR
Post by: caldera on January 31, 2011, 02:52:40 AM
Got into LWO after 1:00 pm EST and quickly hopped into an available field gun emplacement at a flashing base.  Here comes a 190-A8 down the runway for a vulch.  The bugger gets two in one pass and zooms out before I can get the gun around.  Another hapless upper provides the perfect bait and here he comes.  The 190 bags his prey but is running straight into red hot 37mm shells.  He starts gyrating and looping to evade but the cocky sumofabunch reverses and is stirring his way back to me.  He gets within 1000 and BAM BAM! - two shots in the snout.  And poof, he's gone.

Took out a P-47M one base back to go after Lancasters (bombing the same base that Mr.190 met his demise).  Didn't expect them to still be there but damned if they weren't turning to the base to make another pass.  At only 10k, the Jug's speed and devastating eight fifties made short work of the Lancs.  But there was still a darbar in the grid.  Climbing up and out, I spot a high black dot far in the distance.  Pour on the coals to investigate.  A 190 high and headed to the next base.  Following on his low six, I try to catch him but he starts a dive to pull away.  He goes screaming down to the field and guns blazing, takes out both ord bunkers in a single pass.  The 190 reverses and makes another pass for the radar as I finally start to close the distance.  Too late.  The 190 takes out the radar in one pass and plows into the ground at an extreme speed.  The same 190 that was vulching the sortie before.

OK, nobody porks our fields like that without retribution.  But how does one stop a suicide porker streaking down from cloud level?  I know, re-supply.  So, I begin the tedious process of ferrying goons from one base to another to undo the damage that evil invader has done.  Yawn, right?  Bear with me a moment.  After completing my third re-supply trip, the darbar that was slowly creeping across the map had arrived just where I knew it would.  If my hunch was right, Mr. vulching, porking 190 was paying an uninvited visit to the base I just left.

Time to break out the weapon that I hate with every fiber of my being.  The only way to stop this guy is to put up a wall of steel and hope he flies through it.  Having only a handful of kills to my credit in this machine, I wondered if I was really up to the task.  Pffft.  It's the freaking Wirbelwind.  Millions of rounds of 20mm guided missles spray out like flaming ropes.  He's dead meat.  Start the engine and traverse the field to a spot between the two ordnance bunkers and wait.  The high black dot soon becomes the red 190 icon.  AH-HAH!  Mr. 190 blazes in at light speed for ord bunker #1 and escapes without a scratch.  Losing a bit of speed, but apparently still determined (or cocky), the 190 makes a pass on the second bunker.  I mash the fire button and adjust the ridiculous laser stream right into him.  Off comes his wing and down he goes, but not before hitting his mark.  At least he didn't get the radar this time.

And back to re-supplying I go.  Sure enough, a red darbar emerges in the grid of the closest enemy base.  This guy is not giving up, so it would only be sporting of me to continue our private little war.  And history repeats itself as just after the base I was working on is back up to 100%, here comes Mr. 190.  Again.  Maybe I was lucky hitting him last time.  Maybe he will finish his sinister mission.  Nope.  Again he screams in from the heavens, only to again be obliterated by the Wirbel's deadly stream.

Now it is getting near closing time for the arena.  Will he finally end this masochistic dream of pummeling cartoon ord bunkers?  There is that dar bar again.  Single-minded of purpose and ruthlessly efficient, my enemy is.  He can't be stopped, only slowed down.  Now again I am waiting for him between the ord bunkers and the message goes out that the arena is now locked.  OK, this will be his last trip.  Following the red dot on the map, it suddenly veers off course and proceeds to the next base.  That's odd.  It's almost as if he knew I was there.  I look around and see another green icon on the field.  Maybe, maybe not. :noid  No matter, I am compelled to end this reign of porking terror.  Five minutes left till arena closes and Mr. 190 (as if there is any doubt) is right between two bases seemingly in a holding pattern.  Or I am imagining things again. :noid  Finally he commits to the other base and I hastily tower out to intercept him.  Tick-tock, the clock is winding down.  I sprint out of the vehicle hangar and make best speed to the radar tower (as this base's ords were still down).  Three minutes and here he comes.  Only this time, he's pressed for time and is coming in shallow and considerably slower than before.  His haste also causes him to cut across the field to get to his target.  At 2k, The guns of the Wirbel explode in the face of the 190 and he's hit in the cockpit for the insta-kill.  Check-mate.

The moral of the story is; if you don't have to get up for work the next morning, you can waste an hour writing a wall of text that probably only amuses yourself.   :D

Oh man, I know the feeling of being shot down by the same guy over and over... There is no more frustrating feeling.

Interesting that he didn't seem to look for you before making his move...  Some never learn?

I know that feeling too.  My heart sinks every time I see a lone F4U above me, instinctly knowing it is Shiv and I will be dead in seconds.  :(

Lol, I always seem to catch you in a P40 Snuggie, or some other prehistoric bird. Must be my pre-1940s-tech warning system. When an EW plane ups an alarm goes off and I head straight for it, gaining an unreasonable amount of altitude for insurance :)

Regardless of alt, the result is always the same.  It has gotten to the point where I can really tell it is you, by the way you latch on to my six like velcro.  :bhead  :cry   :salute

I thought I taught you how to fix that  :old:, of course shiv has been around long enough to know most tricks, and it's hard to get a good hog stick to overshoot.
