is this CJ from HG???
anyways.... first copy & paste your DXDIAG report here ( the top 2/3rds of it )
and also open task manager and tell us how many processes ( from/by all users )are running
and lets take it from there to see what you are working with
( btw I am niether Skuzzy nor a guru just :old: )

Hiya TC,
It is me, I remember you from AW.

The problem you describe sounds like an interrupt not being serviced. For example. A network request has been made, but the request never gets an answer. This would cause the computer to appear to lockup, when in fact it is hung in an interrupt request waiting for an event to occur. Eventually, it would timeout, but that could take up to 30 minutes, depending on the condition.
That said, I see you have a pretty old video card driver. For your card, I would recommend the 190.38 drivers from NVidia. Do not use the latest drivers. It may not cure the ills, but it should not hurt either. Just be sure to remove the existing drivers, before installing the new ones.

heya CJ< good to see ya still here inAH
what Skuzzy mentioned was going to be one of the things I was trying to respond to earlier but something happened and had to wait for the boards to come back up.
just like your old Video driver being 4 1/2 years old. the same is true for your RealTek HDAudio driver... their have been numerous newer driver releases for RealTEK Audio / HDAudio drivers in the past year alone.....
also although your processes seem to be ok, your pagefile in use seems slightly a tad high at
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 337MB used, 5635MB available
you might have something in your processes/Services causing the system to freeze....... as Skuzzy mentioned about a request never getting answered causing PC to lockup or freeze.....
200MB used or lower is ideal for windows XP....... the freeze could be coming from anything like your antivirus program, 3rd party voice programs, faulty download of hires textures???, to high a settings in the video graphics maybe.... just to name a few things.....
have you tried perhaps cleaning your system for malware/spam/cookies/etc with something like SPyBot ( it is free ) to clean p your system and registry entrys, maybe..... just might find the culprit causing the lockup/Freeze.....
also what resolution do you use, what graphic settings are you at? are they set to extreme? do you use any "Custom Sound Packs", or anything with Aces high
hope this helps.... let us know

Ok. i downloaded the vid drivers Skuzzy recommended and updated the realtek drivers.
Now mic doesn't work. Ideas ? I may be getting to old for this stuff.

CJ
did you reboot the PC ( I know you probably did, but some people forget that sometimes you have too after updating drivers )
go in and check your windows recorder, make sure your sound card propertys ( audio device control ) didn't change your selected input / output devices.....
unplug the mic then re inset the plug to see if it picks it up ???
just a few sugestions none guaranteed
-
Mic settings, in Windows, might have gotten set back to defaults.
Also check in the games "Options->Preferences->Game Sounds" panel and make sure the correct devices are chosen for the mic and other devices.

Skuzzy and TC,
Thanks very much for your help, vox seems to be working now though some say its garbled.
It seems that some settings did default.
So now i'll see if the screen freeze goes away.
Thanks again,
CJ
