.report doesn't seem to do anything to stop the nonstop political banter going on.
I do not want to hear about Iraq or Oil or Obama or Democrats or Republicans or anything, and these guys won't stop.
Thank you.
Actually, how about stop, YOU.
-
cant you just squelch the channel?
-
Norm, I don't want to tune off of 200. I want them to stop talking about politics, which has been clearly stated as not being allowed in this game.
How about they join the same country, tune to the same channel, and talk like it's an AOL chat room from 1995?
-
If .report does nothing, then .squelch the offending players doing it
-
What's wrong with .squelch YOU ?
-
It's about a dozen players doing it.
There are rules -- they're breaking them.
HiTech is in the arena now, handling it. Thank you.
-
You should just dot report them, I know what you mean annoys the hell outta me as well though why people like to talk about something as boring as politics in a game is beyond me.
-
I did .report them. After 10-15 minutes, I posted here. HiTech logged in and promptly stopped it, even giving an explanation to people who asked why.
Thanks, HiTech.

You could try this also.... Run as fast as you can and then swan dive on a gravel road. After about a week or so your skin will be much tougher and these little 200 rants wont be such a big issue.

Very mature reply.
How about the fact that I work in local government, so I'm surrounded by political discsussion during some part of my 9 hours a day while at work, so when I play this game, I don't want to hear it?
It's not a poltical discussion chat channel. Period.

When I can't take care of it myself, I go to the authorities, in this case, the Mods. When you mature, you'll see that things aren't like "snitching" in High School.

YOU want to talk politics, religion or any other "topic" not allowed just tune to a private channel and have at it. The rest of us are here to play and have fun. no need for us to have to detune a channel just to NOT have to see/hear it.
I'm a snitch as well, and have used the .report command myself many a time.

What politics has to do with a cartoon flight sim I have no idea.
If I want to listen to idiots discuss politics, I'll turn on talk radio.

GET A LIFE!! Just because someone doesnt want to listen to your babbling BS on 200 about one of YOU's R I D I C U L O U S conspiracy theories and how they got ripped off by the government doesnt mean they don't understand politics. It can only mean one of two things (my wife is embarrassed that a couple thousand full grown men play a video game and let it consume them):
1) They think you are a BOOR and don't want to participate in your inept, one-sided political conversation that contributes nothing to the game...when in-fact it only makes you an oxygen thief;
or (and this is my favorite onee)
2) Its against the rules...there is no ambiguity there. They don't listen to you spoolies because...are you ready??? are you sure???? THEY DON'T HAVE TOO!!!!

Yup. Back in my day and in the town I was from. Unless someone actually murdered someone, or stole from your family or best buddy. A snitch was about the worst thing you could be and about the fastest way to become an outcast. I still dont hold a whole lot of respect for snitches. And it would have to be something extremely drastic for me to ever consider doing it.
Seems to me I remember this was the entire reason everyone tuned to channel 200 to begin with was to be able to talk about whatever you wanted and anyone that didnt want to listen to it could stay on the standard channel. It WAS the reason 200 was chosen by the players in the first place. You DONT have to be on that channel if you dont like the chat. Your not only tuned there by choice. But you had to put forth the effort to go there.
Kinda reminds me of the people that move into the mountains. Then complain about the bears.
Or to be more local to me. We have people moving in next to a drag strip like here Raceway Park in Englishtown NJ. Then complain about the sound of the racecars.
Doesnt really matter to me. I only barely pay attention to whats going on in the text buffer anyway. And only occasionally have much to say there let alone talk politics. Its just a lot easier to not pay attention to whats being said on 200 then to give a damn about it enough to complain. I for one have better things to concern myself with.
I can empathize with reasoning of the rules regarding it. But its a lot like passing a law against jay walking.

According to who Dred? I don't believe that for a second.
Seems fairly common sense it allows players to talk back and forth who are in different countries. Going back to airwarrior it was that kind of channel that allowed you to talk about a fight you might have just had or to BS back and forth about the game.
No way it was ever meant to be the Rush Limbaugh channel. Why would you want to bring the real world BS into a cartoon game. There have to be plenty of places to talk politics besides a flight sim. If you are that worried about the real world politics then go get involved instead of wasting time escaping into a cartoon pilot world.

started back in 2004
And it all started because of the exact same thing that was going on on Channel 1.
200 was eventually agreed upon by the players as an alternative channel
Here's the thread
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,118207.0.html
I have mixed feelings about ch 1. Being able to disable it is certainly ideal for special events, especially scenarios. Otherwise, though, I do enjoy being able to chat to all countries, and have long-since learnt to ignore most of the rubbish.
I suppose the other alternative would be to tune to a 200+ channel, presuming they are still all-country channels. Also, if there was somewhere like the AW Officer Clubs where all three countries could meet up and chat without any radio channels.... I do miss entering the game that way in AW, and often used to hang around as people came and went. Pah, getting all nostalgic now. :)
and
Btw there is nothing to prevent everone from choosing a cross country channel.
Big diffence to the idea is that everyone has to choose going into it, wrather than decide to not use it.

See my above post.
It WAS the reason 200 was chosen
300 is the political chat channel
wrongway
-
Not a single reference to it being open season on politics in that entire thread beyond Slapshot saying 203 could be for politics.
200 was to be the same as 1 with the expectations the same, but it allows for peaple to choose not to tune instead of it not being an option with channel 1 is all I take from it.
So if you guys want to talk politics then tune 203 and leave 200 for what it is.
-
Dred none of those quoted post state that 200 was chosen for political discussions.
I have read posts by hitech that stated that even the 200 channels are public channels which make them subject to whatever rules HTC decides is appropriate.
I personally enjoy having 200 tuned right up until the political discussions start. However detuning 200 is not an answer I am willing to discuss and many times the squelch list is filled before I get all the offenders listed.

Specifically,Your right. Political discussion is not mentioned specifically. But neither was alot of things. So your kinda splitting straws here.
It was kinda all encompassing. 2004 being an election year. And this place being as it was. And considering the polarization of the time. You can bet with pretty much absolute certainty that political trash talking was a part of it.
-
And to be clear. HT can institute whatever rules he wants. Be hard pressed to find very many instances of me violating them.
Im just pointing out that the entire reason why 200 is used to begin with.
Though my feeling is. If people dont like the discussion on 200 no matter what the subject. Then tune back to 1
People have to choose to be on 200. Its not the standard channel.
Again its like moving next to a race track. Then complaining about the sounds of the cars.

So you are in essence saying that 3-4 folks ranting on Politics on 200, means the other 2-300 people in the game who use 200 for talking back and forth about the game need to detune so they don't have to listen to it?
Seems like those 3-4 folks might consider the other 2-300 and tune to another channel to have their rant instead

Drediock, this is nothing like your analogies of moving to either the mountains or next to a race track.
A better analogy would've been moving to a neighborhood with a HOA against mowing the lawn before 8am on Sundays and having neighbors decide it's okay for them to mow it at 7am because it suits them better.
The arenas, like the HOA in my example, have rules. Simple as that.
The major difference between handling a consistent violation the rules here and a consistent violation of HOA is that people tend to act differently when approached in person about the problem they're creating.
When I can't handle it myself, I go to the authorities.
To combine the two, we're paying to live in HiTech's neighborhood, with his HOA, and the internet makes it impossible to reason with the violators.

If you just wanted to talk back and forth about the game. thats what the standard channel was for.
So that people could be free to talk about other topics. 200 was decided upon at HT's suggestion because you had to choose to go there. (as noted in the quote several posts ago)
Again for the comprehension challanged among us

If you choose to live next to a racetrack. You shouldnt complain about the cars. Your choosing to tune to 200. It is not the standard channel.
I have no problem with HTs rules. By and large I dont usually break whatever rules he has put forth. And they were working as intended till everyone decided channel 200, the channel you had to go out of your way to tune to was the new channel 1 which was the channel you didnt have to do anything to tune to. And should be addressed the same way.
-
Nice, a guy brings a legitimate issue forward, and you want to call him a snitch. No wonder people see these forums as difficult to discuss issues.
It's difficult because the majority of 'adults' here are impeccably childish. The younger noobs
who join the game tend to slowly pick up the behavior of their virtual role-models, creating
a never-ending cycle of fail.
Or maybe I'm just making this up in my head. Who cares, there's no viable solution for the
'problem' anyway.
-
Again, you seem to forget WHY 200 was chosen for use to begin with. Its a channel you choose to be on.
It doesn't matter if channel 260 or channel 300 was chosen; HTC said political banter on ANY public channel is a violation of their code of conduct. The ONLY channel that isn't moderated is your squad channel, so go ahead and talk to your squadmates about politics all your want. Of course, most smart squadrons prohibit that kind of chatter anyway because all it does is create strife.

I do not think that is why 200 was set aside for many years ago. But let's give you the benefit of a large doubt. It has evolved away from that. If you want to discuss health care, the cause of global warming or aliens landing, please go to 203 or 300. Show some respect for the majority of players who don't want to listen to the crap or have to play the squelch game for the rude few. Deal?
-
You're intent on seeing it you're way, and it's a safe bet that 98% of the people see it the other way. That should tell you something.
The fact of the matter is that it's been stated, time and again, political discussion is not allowed in the game. It doesn't matter how you're interpreting a post from Flossy and HiTech from years back and using them to suit your position, the rules are what they are.
I don't care one iota if people want to tune privately and talk politics or religion or abortion or gun control, however, I don't want to hear it on 200, a channel that I have to tune to, as you said, but one that is what everybody uses for general banter and chat.
I enjoy chatting and listening to folks on 200. There are a lot of laughs. Telling me to change my ways, a person playing by the rules, to accomodate a group of people that are explicitly violating the rules is backwards logic.

You see me often talking politics anywhere in the game? I typically dont. If I have its only been on the VERY rarest of occasions and limited to a single statement or two.
So your slightly off base here.. by about 10 miles.
I know HT doesnt and wont agree with me. But personally if it were me. I'd say simply. "You choose to go there, its your problem. Deal with it or tune back to 1"
But then I'd enforce the rules on 1 vigorously. It would be a hell of alot easier the to try to enforce the rule on all the channels
200 is the channel you chose to tune to. Its not the default channel. It was the channel chosen to get away from these exact whines. Based on what went down in 2004. IMO and My opinion only. I consider any complaints about whats said there illegitimate at best on those grounds alone.

You're also being hypocritical in wanting to have it both ways, or merely playing devil's advocate for the sake of playing it. One part of you says: "If you don't want to hear Politics on 200, don't tune". Then you skirt the issue entire and say: "You see me often talking politics anywhere in game?" This thread/topic isn't about you. It is about a player reporting various idiots who were flagrantly crossing the line (thinking they could have Carte Blanche with no repercussions).
Sorry Dred, HTC have already told this Community ad-nauseum of "No Politics, Religion either IN GAME or on this BBS".

I just love when people make up false statistics and percentages to legitimize their arguments.
Go take a poll of everyone in game and not just the ones posting here then come back with numbers that are more representative of how people feel.
I am not interpreting anything. thats how it went down. I was actually here at the time. Were you?
200 was chosen to accommodate those that didnt want to listen to the banters. Many of which we see complained about now.
You had to choose to go there as such were not forced to deal with it. All you needed to do was stay on the default channel.
Im intent on seeing it my own way because thats the way it was. I didnt suddenly decide to change the reason for 200 to suit my own desires. Which is exactly whats going on now.
Personally, I dont give a rats butt whats typed on 200 for those reasons. I look at it sometimes. If I dont like the discussion. I shrug my shoulders "whatever" shake my head in amusement, or disgust, and move on. I made the choice to be there.
Hell I only barely pay attention to whats being said on squad channel. Ask JG2.
The nonsense thats typed on 200 just isnt that important to me.

You still haven't shown me where HTC said it was for talking politics in that thread. I choose 200 because it's the one folks use to talk back and forth between
countries as I enjoy the majority of the people I get to intereact with in the game. It's the option we were given for that. Again, HTC didn't say it was for politics. I read the thread from beginning to end and the only mention as I said, was by Slapshot suggesting 203 be for politics.
-
I shouldn't have to do anything to prove anything to you. You're in the wrong. I've given you good analogies of how the situation exists TODAY, with the rules that we're given.
Regardless of the channel picked for general discussion, the rules state no political discuss. Why can you not comprehend that simple fact?
You have not pointed out where it was stated that 200 was the channel for political discussion. Bring up a quote from back then, and then you'll have something concrete to base that belief upon. And you know what? The rules are still what they are today, not what they were back in 2004 or 2006.
It doesn't matter if it's 98% or if it's 1% -- the rules are what HiTech says, and we have to abide by them.
I wasn't here during that time. I was here when the game first came out, then gone for 10 years.
But this isn't about what was then; it's about what is now.
-
I do not think that is why 200 was set aside for many years ago. But let's give you the benefit of a large doubt. It has evolved away from that.
On that point we are in complete agreement.
All this started to with me pointing out WHY we started go to 200 to begin with.
and its the point I've been trying to make ever since.
Dude, You were here in 2004. Dont you remember that (I'll refrain from saying most) a very large portion of discussions, debates and flames centered around politics?
I could state specific events in the political landscape that were in hot debate at the time. But I think you get my point.
Was it entirely about politics. Absolutely not. But there is no way it didnt play a big part of it.
-
I know HT doesnt and wont agree with me. But personally if it were me. I'd say simply. "You choose to go there, its your problem. Deal with it or tune back to 1"
If he doesn't agree with you and you know it against the code of conduct, why bother arguing this? Until you 'coad' your own flight sim, you have absolutely no say in the matter and neither do I (it just so happens I agree with Hitech on this one).
-
I shouldn't have to do anything to prove anything to you.
Just reread all of my posts. Its easier then me retyping it.
Your still splitting straws.
Its like saying that because a lunar eclipse was obscured by clouds. It must not have specifically occurred because you didn't see it.
I bet you do wonders with the word "is" too LMAO
-
If he doesn't agree with you and you know it against the code of conduct, why bother arguing this? Until you 'coad' your own flight sim, you have absolutely no say in the matter and neither do I (it just so happens I agree with Hitech on this one).
The only thing I've been arguing. Is the reason for 200 to begin with. Which people either dont know because they werent here. Or forgot.
I have stated repeatedly and specifically that HT can institute whatever rules he wishes. And that I rarely break them whatever they are.
And that is regardless of if I agree with them or not. Because it doesnt matter if I or you agree with them. So the fact that you agree is pretty meaningless to me. Because in the end it doesnt matter
I NEVER said that HT HTC or any of its affiliates must allow political speech. Neither in game nor on the boards.
When political speech was allowed. I partook. When he said it wasnt allowed anymore. I stopped.
So please stop telling me that if I want to talk politics that I should (insert random suggestion here)
-
Im out of this merry go round.
Fun bantering with you all on this <S>
-
The basis of your argument was the following statement by you Dred.
"Seems to me I remember this was the entire reason everyone tuned to channel 200 to begin with was to be able to talk about whatever you wanted "
That is an inaccurate statement and the rest of your argument falls apart because of it. It was never stated it was for talking about whatever you wanted.
-
Dred I see that you are trying to make a specific point but in reality this thread was about someone breaking the rules and was being reported to HTC, maybe not in the best way possible but it is what the OP had in mind.
You want to discuss the why's and how's in regards to what things are now then start another thread and maybe it won't seem as though people are stacked against you. That is the reason why so many here are pointing out the obvious that it is against the rules.
Maybe a quick post in the wishlist for your arguments to get politics allowed back in game.

Oy vey. I knew I shouldnt have come back.
no. My statement about the time was 110% accurate.
It may not be accurate now. But it most certainly was then.
-
Maybe a quick post in the wishlist for your arguments to get politics allowed back in game.
This post isnt even worth responding to as your attributing something to me I never said.
At no point did I ever make the argument in that politics should. Or for that matter shoudnt be allowed in the game.
Personally I dont care one way or the other
The only time and the last time I may have ever made such an argument might have been a couple of years ago over in the O'club. And that was about the O'club
The rule was passed and I have since followed it. The subject just isnt that important to me that I HAVE to have those kind of discussions here. And in the game in particular.
There is a time and place I do hold those debates. Here or in game isnt one of em. And in game thats pretty much always been the case as Im usually too busy doing something else to even care whats being said on 200 let alone get into any in depth participation on the subject, or any other for that matter.
Most of my conversations on 200 are pretty brief. Mostly cause I find that id Im paying attention to what I'm doing. rather then caring about what some idiot is bantering about on 200. I find I get more kills that way.
Ok this time I really am out. Its just turned into a merry go round.
And again. It was fun bantering <S> to all

ah.. the politics of AH politics. :D

I am just curious why this thread was allowed to continue from the start, we are told ad nauseum that all problems and issues should be emailed to HTC for resolution, yet the original poster took his so called problem that was "in Game " to the BBS, Then this so called discussion was allowed to flourish and degenerate into a finger pointing fest, the hypocrisy is astonishing sometimes, other posters too the BBS get days off or reprimanded for airing out there dirty laundry on the BBS so why are we here? :headscratch: :headscratch: :headscratch:

O.K. after reading through all of the BS and ignorance being thrown into the forums I have one simple question:
Why is this thread still alive? It is a violation of the RULES. You can't shoot someone then say "Well I was at the gun range and well...yeah." It's a rule. You follow it. Morons. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
Ah to the ignorant ones calling people cry babies because they are reporting a rule breach....exactly how low is your IQ?
You see someone robbing a bank, you're SUPPOSED to call 911....not let him make off with thousands of dollars that belong to other people -_-.
The sheer amount of incompetence in those protecting what they want to do when they know it's wrong......I am baffled for the evening. We use 200 to send salutes and have general discussions. You want to discuss powatiks sooooo bad go find a political forum and type until your fingers fall off so we don't have to see you in the arena anymore. It's what I do. I actively participate in 6 forums on a regular basis with a few others every so often a week.
There is a time and a PLACE for everything.

Short Answer: I R4G3 WUIT!
Short Answer: You see its like when Riker was forced to command the Enterprise and one goal he had was to destoy Locutus who was actually Picard, a man Riker revered and possibly loved on a plutonic we are jetting thru the stars together fanboi way, but that aside he had to kill him and stop the Borg threat before it reached sector 001 despite this Riker maintained a cool head and with the help of Data who saved the Enterprise D from multiple threats by himself numerous times...in fact it was a literary out written into the Star Trek next generation ethos that the average watcher could determine within the first 20 minutes that the rest of the episode would have Data saving the entire crew...replacing isolinear chips really fast or resisisting a xenephobe attack and then the xenophobes had to erase the crews memories but it failed and Data had to disobey a direct order from Picard that Picard gave him the 1st time the xenophobes tried to erase the crews memory but anyway.....

Anyone who gets their panties in a bunch over 200 is soft
Maybe focus on flying more, in sure your skill could use it, or stop grabbing to 20k and get down and fight - this way your poor whittle eyes wont read what the bad men are typing
YOU tuned to 200...make 201 the channel of 'change' and you can just salute each other and say good job mate!

The rules are the rules. If one can't abide by them, they will be punished. Simple as that.

I bet the folks who complain have very low kills per houra s they think its a forum and not a fight ..
More fighting and less fretting
Fight more read less

It is a waste of time arguing over politics anyway. The system is flawed and it doesn't matter who is in office your going to get screwed either way.
If you want something to revolt over think about the UK's petrol prices. £1.30 a litre of unleaded! = over $10 a gallon
and here we were thinking the Americans would share some of Iraq's oil :t

going into all the exquisite and juicy details, explaining every possible detail to the

For some reason, I doubt it.

Ahhh...its always the criminals wanting to make the laws. This type of brilliance is mind-boggling. So, rules are posted and you want to break them...if you are policed about breaking them, everyone that doesn't like you doing that is soft? That about right? Gotta love those internet goon-squad members...and go figure, it only took him two posts to bring score up. Its surprising that this enterprising young lad can count.
Freud would love to work with you.....

If Dale would give back the the old AW style Kill macro's all this cute banter would die away don't ya think :devil :devil :bolt:

what amazes me, is how many wasy so many different people will try to find to justify breaking the rules.

By the way Cap I think the location tab on your BBS handle is Way too political to be displayed here on the BBS I may have to report this transgression to the proper authority because it causes me too loose my concentration there for could cause a nasty keyboard accident

1) score..no I said kills per hour, which means your not fighting ..your typing and reading
2) why cry about what the bad man is saying- you do not have to read it or respond to it
3) YOU tuned to 200 ..channel 1 was closed for this very reason ...so you have to voluntary tune. To it.
4) the soft heads who cry about bad man remind me of the ninnies who look for any issue to complain about
What's next? Ban the low buffs suicide Cv/ ban the bombing of gvs / stop what people can fly...wait. that that one is already here
I shake my head to see these game players be so offended so easily

.report doesn't seem to do anything to stop the nonstop political banter going on.
I do not want to hear about Iraq or Oil or Obama or Democrats or Republicans or anything, and these guys won't stop.
Thank you.
Actually, how about stop, YOU.
Glad to see that this got an official response. :aok

We should have a sissy momma's boy channel and then a male channel.
-
...The fact of the matter is that it's been stated, time and again, political discussion is not allowed in the game...
Where?
-
Interestingly, "snitches" being turned on is probably the biggest problem with cleaning up our inner cities, because when something happens, magically nobody saw anything. They won't "snitch" to the police because it ain't "manly".
-
Where?
didn/t skuzzy come in on the last thread about this kind of stuff, and make such a statement?
-
200 was chosen to accommodate those that didnt want to listen to the banters. Many of which we see complained about now.
Exactly right ... but "banters" in and of itself does not include "political or religious" discussion ... HTC has, on many occasions stated so ... everything else is pretty much acceptable with the exception of vulgar language.
You really are arguing for the sake of argument ... your generalization of why 200 was created proves it.
-
We should have a sissy momma's boy channel and then a male channel.
+1!
Unfortunately, the afore-mentioned momma's boys wouldn't be able to resist the male channel....would HAVE to look at and then READ it, would of course be rightly offended, and be obliged to .report it ad infinitum (of course, AFTER making bbs threads about how horrible it is :cry)
-
Interestingly, "snitches" being turned on is probably the biggest problem with cleaning up our inner cities, because when something happens, magically nobody saw anything. They won't "snitch" to the police because it ain't "manly".
No doubt.
My father was a West Point graduate ... class of '53 ... USMA motto ... Country - Honor - Duty. No one knows better than what those mean than the son of cadet and the cadets themselves.
If my father saw someone cheating on a test at West Point, if he did not turn that cadet in, and they found out that he knew and didn't report it ... he would suffer the same consequences at the cheater ... expulsion.
There is no honor in cheating and it was his, and every cadets duty to maintain the integrity of the standard and rules of the USMA. With out that, it would all fall to pieces.
If my father saw something go down that was wrong ... he would be the first to step up and say something ... and I would dare someone to call him a "snitch".
-
didn/t skuzzy come in on the last thread about this kind of stuff, and make such a statement?
If you're referring to the 'Mods' thread then no.
-
snitches get stitches lol
-
If you're referring to the 'Mods' thread then no.
From the 'Mods' thread.
Here is a really simple way to avoid any confrontation with a moderator.
Ask yourself one question before you say or type something.
"What does this have to do with the game?"
If the answer is "Nothing!", then do not say/type it. Ta-da!
The community has the .report mechanism at its disposal. Use it. The moderators cannot be on 24 hours a day. They also like to play the game and should be allowed to do so.
Political discussions are reason for moderator action or .reports.
-
From the 'Mods' thread.
Still nothing that says there is a rule that says no political discussions.
-
Except for the part where Skuzzy says that political discussions are reason for moderator action and the .report.
Meaning to me that political discussions are against the rules otherwise they would not be reasons for moderator action or reporting.
-
Political and/or religious discussion, over open channels is cause for .reports to be issued.
-
the owner of the house...or in this case, a designated person responsible for the house has stated it is not to be. that makes it a rule. just as if you walk in your friends house, and he tells you not to piss on the floor.......i'd hope you won't......
-
Except for the part where Skuzzy says that political discussions are reason for moderator action and the .report.
Meaning to me that political discussions are against the rules otherwise they would not be reasons for moderator action or reporting.
It also says that if its not related to AH you shouldn't talk about it. Does that mean asking a friend how his day was against the rules too?
-
It also says that if its not related to AH you shouldn't talk about it. Does that mean asking a friend how his day was against the rules too?
I would interpret it that way.
Those discussions do take place and many times by me and if I get muted it for it then so be it.
My point was that it was stated that political discussions were addressed in the 'Mods' thread and even specifically.
-
The reason Dred's solution wouldn't work is that if all the people who didn't want a recap of the Rush Limbaugh/Keith Olbermann talking points of the day switched to Channel 1, so would the people who do want a recap of said talking points. The people spewing talking points, and the AH chat buffer's nature prevents anything deeper than bumper sticker/talking point discussion anyways, would move to channel 1 as well. In the vast majority of cases they wouldn't move to be malicious, but rather to be where the crowd is, where their buddies are and where they can shoot the breeze about the game. The fact that sometimes they go overboard and start their talking point spewing is a separate issue. They want to participate in the community as well. In addition, chatting your talking points into a channel with only a few guys in it who already agree with you 90+% of the time isn't very satisfying I wouldn't think.
There are plenty of other places on the internet to do politics, and do them better.

1) score..no I said kills per hour, which means your not fighting ..your typing and reading K/H IS A MEASURE OF SCORE...DONT BACKPEDAL...ITS NO MEASURE OF TYPING VS FIGHTING
2) why cry about what the bad man is saying- you do not have to read it or respond to it CRYING? WHO'S CRYING. WE HATE IT AND BY THE RULES DONT HAVE TO HAVE IT CLOG THE CHANNEL
3) YOU tuned to 200 ..channel 1 was closed for this very reason ...so you have to voluntary tune. To it. ALL SIDES COMMUNICATE ON 200 AND ITS BAFOONISH OF YOU TO THINK NON-POLITICOS SHOULD GO ELSEWHERE..I MEAN REALLY? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? LMAO
4) the soft heads who cry about bad man remind me of the ninnies who look for any issue to complain about YOUR MANTRA...ARGUMENTUM AD HOMINEM...LOOK IT UP. ATTACK THE ARGUMENT, NOT THE PERSON MAKING THE ARGUMENT. PLEASE DONT COME BACK WITH SOME CHILDISH DRIVEL ABOUT LATIN OR YOUR LACK OF UNDERSTANDING HOW THIS APPLIES TO YOU. MAKE AN ADULT ARGUMENT AS TO WHY 400 OR SO PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE TO LISTEN TO 10 POLITICAL/CONSPIRACY THEORISTS SPEW THEIR BRAINBUSTING BALDERDASH ON AN A SHARED, OPEN CHANNEL. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR ARGUMENT...NOT WHAT YOU BELIEVE THEIR RIGHTS ARE BECAUSE THAT CANNOT BE MADE BECAUSE HTC HAS ALREADY ISSUED OUR RIGHTS ON 200 AND POLITICS ISNT ON THE LIST. SO, MAKE AN ARGUMENT....I WILL BET YOU CANNOT COME BACK WITHOUT CALLING PEOPLE A NAME OR TWO AND ACTUALLY ARGUE YOUR POINT.
What's next? Ban the low buffs suicide Cv/ ban the bombing of gvs / stop what people can fly...wait. that that one is already here. WOW...WHO'S WHINING NOW?
I shake my head to see these game players be so offended so easily AND WE LAUGH AT THOSE THAT BELIEVE THEIR RHETORIC IS SOMEHOW IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR US TO HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT. HOW SELF INDULGENT....PFFFFFT
-
It also says that if its not related to AH you shouldn't talk about it. Does that mean asking a friend how his day was against the rules too?
It all depends. If I say, "how was your day, hopefully it was better than your flying" now it's related. :)
I think if you are asking a player a question, just by the fact he is playing AH, and your playing AH, makes it related. I guess the exceptions to that are political discussions, religion, spamming ads/selling stuff, vulgarity, racial slurs, and a variety of other actions.
In the end, I don't really see what's wrong with asking HTC to deal with it, as according to them, they don't want those discussions to begin with. Who cares if someone got muted/text banned for rambling on about politics anyway. I'd rather see someone reported than sit there and try to filter out peoples politcal views on Obama, economy, and global warming. Not sure I've ever been bothered enough to actually .r someone, but I really don't care if someone else does when called for, and asked for by HTC. Those discussions shouldn't have been taking place to begin with, sometimes you get caught. Maybe offenders, if any here, should take it like a man. Whats with the the second grade name calling anyway? lol.
-
It also says that if its not related to AH you shouldn't talk about it. Does that mean asking a friend how his day was against the rules too?
That's a stretch, to say the least.
-
That's a stretch, to say the least.
But its a rule.
Ask yourself one question before you say or type something.
"What does this have to do with the game?"
If the answer is "Nothing!", then do not say/type it. Ta-da!
Asking someone how their day was has nothing to do with AH so you should be muted for it.
-
It also says that if its not related to AH you shouldn't talk about it. Does that mean asking a friend how his day was against the rules too?
Feeling a bit contrary today Larry?
Come on bud, the old common sense meter isn't that hard to read :)
-
Wow.. sensitive there , DO CAPS LOCK MAKE IT MORE IMPORTANT. ?! Lololo
Kill per hour mean your doing more chatty Kathy instead of killing Keri in aces high
Stop texting and reading text like a Jr high pubescent school girl.
Stck and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt me
I have played aw/ah FOR DECADES ..I have yet felt the need to go cry to another adult about speech
Yes please don't quote rules again, HTC can do what they want
I read various complaints and laugh, then cry at such a soft society
When I fly
..I'm here to kill..everything else is fluff
Its a game

Its true... chan 200 at night sometimes is a Bill O'Riley special... with extra drunk guests... and it never ends... almost every night.

You really are arguing for the sake of argument ... your generalization of why 200 was created proves it.
Actually no.
The OP in the thread I linked to "Flit", Actually a squadmate of mine and friend dating back to before AH to the time of Airwarrior.
We had discussed between us at the time what it was all about. Discussion of politics was indeed a large part of what was going on. And what the complaints were about. Remember it was an election year. All you need do is think back to the last election and how the conversations went on 200 about the candidates was for the most part a nightly occurrence for an example of how it was on 04 when it was even more polarized to realise that there is no way it wasnt part of the banter what was going down at the time.
Any event he and I and the rest of the squad had private conversations about what was going on because some of us hadnt logged onto the game yet.
Im not sure if back then political discussion was disallowed in the game back then. At that time it was allowed here in the O'club. I do know however that there has never been an adequate way to enforce such a rule. Not through any fault or lack of effort of HTC but because obviously most people dont complain about it.
In any event. we all had in depth conversations on what was happening and why.
Then like now I found it all amusing because I really dont care one way or the other whats talked about because I dont hold many lengthy conversations on 200, or any other channel for that matter. And barely pay attention to what banters or discussions there are.
Point was not to argue for the sake of arguing. But to point out and remind everyone that 200 was chosen because of the complaints of the banter of all sorts that was going on on the default channel.
200 was chosen as an alternative to the default channel. The idea was that if you wanted to have discussions that people didnt want to hear on default. then you should go to a different channel to do it rather then force everyone on default to listen to it. 200 was chosen as that channel.
By going to 200 you are choosing to see whats going on there. Though I think HT worded it better
Problem is, everyone migrated there instead of staying on default and only using 200 for its intention. Now people are making many of the same complaints demanding action about the goings on on 200 that they were on default.
Point is 200 was created for the use of alternate conversation. This entire argument Ive made could have been about the discussion of blueberries and I would have put forth the exact same argument. Point is, everyone has to choose to go to 200. Nobody is forced into it. There is a default channel. If all you want to do it talk about the game and not be bothered with any alternative subjects that may annoy you then thats where the claimed (not by you)"majority" that object should be. Because that is the channel that is the default for such things. Everyone chooses to be on 200. Nobody is forcing anyone to listen to anything. Your tuned to 200 by choice.
Now that being said. I've also stated that I can empathize with HTC and why they wouldn't want political discussion. I myself dont encourage it nor do I start political discussions here, or in game. I have other places I do that. I wish some of you would stop assuming I am for political discussion. I never said that. and I dont do it.
But..
But its alot like making laws against jay walking. good luck enforcing it because There is just no real way to adequately enforce it. And I am as sure as the sun rising tomorrow that this will become an issue again. Short of removing text altogether or closing down the game. Its an impossible task.
Some group of knuckleheads are going to be doing it again, and again and again. Im not saying any of this to be a hard arse or a jerk. I'm simply being truthful about the situation.
What I am saying is what I've been saying all along. 200 is a chosen channel. If people do not like the conversation on 200 regardless of what that subject might be. And only want to shoot the breeze with buds about the game. Then go to default. as that is what it was there for.
But if your going to move next to a racetrack. Then you shouldnt complain abut the sound of cars.
We could redo this whole thing and say ok. "Everyone that wants to talk politics or other non game related conversation move to 300. Everyone else stay on 200" and a couple of years from now we are going to be having the exact same debates because by then everyone is going to have migrated to 300 and the lessons of the past of why 300 started being used will again be forgotten.
Oh and EskimoJoe. Your comments on porn being discussed are among the most asinine I've seen in a while. splitting hairs

can't believe this is still going on........ :bhead

we don't seem to have this problem in the AVA. :bolt:

That's because nobody is IN the AvA ! :bolt:

Problem is, everyone migrated there instead of staying on default and only using 200 for its intention. Now people are making many of the same complaints demanding action about the goings on on 200 that they were on default.

"default" channel is what? "All" channel 1? you do realize channel 1 is disabled in latewar, right?
and people talk politics on country channel also, which is un-detunable.

Poly Tics??? What next.... Plastic Fleas?? Poor dogs.............
WTG Mir!! Your right on.

Caps were to make it easier for you to read my responses. Again, you made no argument, you didn't have enough self restraint to not name call (I couldn't care less aboutthe name calling I just think it's funny that you're incapable of not doing it) and make a real educated argument. I would bet it's because you can't. You must cry about a soft society because you can't keep up with it....it's always the soft ones that complain about others not being tough enough, lmao. It's called projection and you are a classic.

yea but you cant talk on it.. his point was something along the lines of if you dont like politics on 200, goto All (or something)..

Sorry dude, old school here. Nobody likes a snitch. :neener:
Insisting that the rules be followed is not snitching.

See my above post.
It WAS the reason 200 was chosen
Dred so you are dissing HT? He made the rule that no political discussion is allowed on the 200 channel.
-
But its a rule.
Asking someone how their day was has nothing to do with AH so you should be muted for it.
I didnt let my daughters get away with that logic when they were teens.

I beg your pardon?
I am pretty sure he didnt mean nobody as in not a single person is in the AVA. I think he meant those in the AVA are nobodies:)

Now your just being plain silly. I at no point here dissed HT.
Sheesh. The way words are being misinterpreted and twisted around here its like dealing with a room full of women.
Him - "The sky is blue"

There is another thing women are notorious for.
her: I'm done with this argument.
him: (thinks to himself) Thank God.
her: One more thing. insert new reason why she is ticked off
him: (thinks to himself again because he knows better) now maybe she is done.
her: Oh and I forgot about something else I wanted to say that means exactly what I said the first 5 times only with a few words changed.
How many times have you said you were done with this thread now? :neener:
Sorry Dred couldn't resist. :D

Its true... chan 200 at night sometimes is a Bill O'Riley special... with extra drunk guests... and it never ends... almost every night.
its beyond lame... at least the trash talking is funny in rare occasion.
Exactly,
It has been this way for a long time. There have been peaks in the level of banter, but none the less, you know what exactly you are going to hear when you tune to 200.
To assume that comming home from a hard days work and launching AH with channel 200 tuned in is going to sweep all your troubles away like a Calgon bath is an unrealistic assumption. Sure the poli-sci talk gets old, but so does a lot of the other topics of the night. My advice, keep complaining. Find out the hard way. Today its politics, tomorrow it will be something else. Put a free for all channel out there where no topic is out of line, it wouldn't be long before someone doesnt like the content and complains to the management instead of just shutting it off. I know I'm going to hear mother goose complain about this post but I don't give a crap....

( I am using your quote jamdive, but I am not directing this toward you, my post is directed to all in this thread )
did you ever stop to think, "Hey, the way I banter and they way I type my posts looks as if I am part of the problem and not helping any"
it is always going to be HTC's sandbox / HTC's rules ( the online arenas, this private messageboard )....... we all can sit and continue to talk or text about things that HTC has specifically said are not allowed in thier "sandbox"........ and when we do these things, we can gaurantee ourselves that we will get the swift kick of the boot of HTC.....
what is so hard about following the request of the game owners and not talk about certian things and stop bringing up certian subjects to discuss , when HTC keeps repeatedly saying "It Is Not Allowed, Period!"
unless, one simply does not have any care nor any respect for what HTC ask for not to be done, and does not care that they continue to keep stepping across the line, because they know that they will just get muted for a length of time.... but eventually will get to come back and do it all over again......
unless they get perma banned from the Arenas and the game......

My one and only reply to this thread.
I have been watching this thread with more and more disgust. On the one side we have the people trying to do the right thing and play by the rules set down by the HT God. On the other we have the rule breakers calling them snitches and spoilsports, trying to defend what they did.
The main argument I am seeing for this defense is '200 is for everything, its a free channel'
WRONG
It is not a free channel. It is HT's channel, same as country, Squad, channel 1 and vox. He's just a bit more lax on 200. However this thread has got me questioning what I know about the rules.
So this 'Snitch' went and asked the only people who could give me a proper answer. Emailing HTC direct, I asked them what their policy was on channel 200. This was their answer
When you get right down to it, anything not about the game is disallowed.
The discussion of politics and/or religion are specifically not allowed and
can be cause to lose ones voice/text privileges for 8 days.'
Answers the question. Talking about poltics on channel 200 is not allowed. Its is not a free channel, and these people have done right by .reporting the people responsible. They are not snitches, just people who came here to fly for fun, why should they have to change channels to avoid people breaking the rules?
That's me done here, as I said at the beginning, this is my one and only reply. Playing by the rules makes everyones lives happier.

macleod,
First it is consider unexceptionable to post emails you received from some one ,with out their permission. And even worse if you do not post all the complete email.
One of the reasons is email format and public posting are completely styles. Public posting by us is generally much more precise.
Skuzzy has stated before about Anything not about the game, on the last occurrence it was if you don't speak about other stuff you will not get yourself muted.
It is not a rule to only speak about the game.
The only reason politics and religion are off topic is because they will almost always lead to taking over the channel with degrading arguments.
We do not have a precise set of rules , simply because that leads to people always trying to say they did not break a precise rule when they .
The simple fact is, if someone continues to act like a jerk/a***ole they stand a good chance of being moderated.
This can be something like calling for a mission once every 3 secs for 10 mins.
To constant insults of someone.
This is why we have moderators, to make those choices that are obviously over the line, but do not specifically fit into any written rule.
There is a huge difference from saying f*** that last mission sucked one time and then be finished. Verses sayy F*** you HiTech your a mother **** A**** and can take your *** where the sun ....
And then continue on with another 3 lines.
AH is a very competitive game and I understand emotions can run high and spill over. But trying to write rules where to draw the line is impossible.
The real rule is simply try to respect others when using public channels. It really is no more complex then that. Most people learn this in kindergarten. The people who didn't are the ones who get muted often.

Ok, I know I said only one reply, however with HT's response to me I feel I can bypass that.
HT,
I apologise if I have annoyed you and the company by posting the email I recieved. I was just using it for referance to the point I was making. In response to your next point, I'm afraid I don't quite follow you sir. That was the complete email I recieved, no more, no less. I would not edit an email for my own use to help an argument, for me thats a bit low. If you could clarify wither that was posted against me, it would be much appreciated. If you would rather, an Email or a PM could be better (I don't know if you ever use PM's for this use)
Thank you for your input on this thread. Much appreciated. I shall now honour my 'One reply' promise and quit this thread.
<S> HT and apologies for any offense caused.

Politics and religion talk is banned in my workplace.
Simply for the fact that it touches deep into ones convictions that it can easily turn into a seriously heated debate. Although someone elses view is often different from ours, some people just need to respect it for what it is and leave it be.
Discussing it here or on 200 or even in the workplace is just inviting drama that really is unproductive with the end result is always makes people uncomfortable in an enviroment that doesnt have a need or call for it.
Your oppinions/convictions are yours to keep. Im cool with however you see the world, and would never expect to push my views on someone else, so please keep it out of the game

Think about what u are saying HT. Kids play this game.

It'll get handled. I got band for a week of forums for breaking that one. I agree with this rule, because I seen it get way out of hand & people getting really hateful. So I took mine and won't slip there again. Some people just don't know when too far, is too far. :old:

I grew up in a very small town, population around 135. Dad taught me early on there are 3 forbidden subjects.
Politics (Republican in a town full of Democrats)
Religion (Methodist in a town split down the middle, half Lutheran, half Catholic)
Water (Its flat here, what helps this guy out might just drown your neighbor a mile over) (actually more big fights
over water than the other 2 forbidden subjects.)
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What you are not necessarily entitled to is to inflict that opinion on others.
People come to AH to forget that outside world. Politics, religion, and bs like that ruins the immersion.
If it doesn't have anything to do with the game, keep it on the private channels.
