Title: What are the chances

that we get an A6M3 with the other Type 0's? not asking for it, or saying we shouldnt have it, just asking what the chances of them adding it are

50/50 (it's either yes or no!)

HTC doesn't always tell us. For example we get the B025H with the B-25C, but then when the Fw190s were done they left out the ta152 for the longest time (it was remodeled many versions later).

It's all up to them. They could decide they want to, or could say "we'll revisit this later"....


IMO the Ki-43 and Ki-44 are way more important for the 1943 time frame than the A6M3 model 32 or model 22 are.

Ki-43 is for sure, but it involves entirely new artwork, unlike an A6M3.

The A6M3 would require new work as well. Not only was the front nose shape (between the cockpit and the cowling) different, but the cowling and the exhausts were different as well. The wings would be also different. It's not exactly like you're just deleting wingtips. You have to build in different wingtips. The effort must still be expended. I've done a bit of 3D work (nothing on the volume HTC does, though) and it's not so simple to do that. Not always. There are too many factors for us to know how hard it is.

The A6M3 was the most different looking of the other zekes, as well. It's not like the 47M where you're recycling shapes already in use.

Yet much of it is still usable too, particularly the cockpit from the A6M2 and rear fuselage/tail.  Landing gear would likely be the same as well.  The cockpit is the big one though.

Much less work than a Ki-43 or Ki-44.   The Ki-44 would be much more competitive with USN and USAAF fighters at that time though.

It really depends on how the 3D mesh is generated. There were some techniques I covered in some 3D animation classes where you had to create the shape first then from that derive the appropriate geometry... Once you did you lost the previous work and couldn't go back. If you wanted to you had to have a previous progress of your save file, or you had to re-create the shape again.

It all really does depend on so many things there's no way to say "it's this easy" or not without some input on HTC's part. That much I know from my personal experience.

I'd say there are pretty strong indicators of how it is for their process when we get whole families of aircraft, Spits, 109s, 190s, F4Us, 47s, ect, updated at the same time. When they were doing the Spits and hadn't shown the Spit VIII in screen shots on the front page (which they never did) I called Pyro and chatted with him for a bit.  He told me at the time that they wanted to do the Spit VIII, but weren't sure they'd have time, yet they did manage to find the time.  All Spits, Mk I, V, IX, XIV and Seafire were updated and the VIII and XVI added in the same patch.  I don't recall for sure, but I am not certain the Bf109s weren't all updated in the same patch, with the G-14 being added.
