Terrible bitmap to work with, apparently. Folks seem to be waiting for it to be updated.

Bitmap refers to the file type given to skinners to work with. The entire skin is laid out as one picture they edit. You probably have a few pictures on your computer with a .bmp ending, that's what he's referring too.

Could you do it if you have a better image?

Your image isn't the problem, it's the actual files you use to make the Bitmap/skin. It's not as friendly to work with as the newer models.

The base bitmap IS a nightmare. I had wrestled the baseline into submission, and was basically only down to cleaning up the wear and filth when it was correctly pointed out that my greens were the wrong color. I had my gamma set way up to correct for my HDTV display and what looked perfect on my screen (and even though I had taken the colors directly from color samples on the popular internet sites) did not look correct in game. Due to the way I did my layers I was going to have to change over 50 different layers by hand to correct the base colors and the derivatives of those colors that were used in other places. I put it aside and promised myself that I would try to forget about such a fundamental mistake and start fixing it later. Well, while I have continued to pay my subscription, I have not started Aces High in well over a year as my internet connection makes the game unplayable. But, today I got a PM of support for my Stuka skin and that is enough motivation (and enough time has passed) for me to try and fix the colors and then with help work it towards final form. I still think that it would be better for the community if the bitmap got updated before I finish but at least there is a small glimmer of hope for the Stuka while we wait. Sorry for the necro.
