Title: P-791
Post by: Nypsy on February 09, 2011, 07:20:56 AM
When HT brings subs into the game maybe he can also bring us asw hybrid blimps.
In real life I still can't see the practicality of a blimp. They seem so fragile and susceptible to bad weather.

I liked it: it looks like a green attempt for the military and definatly looks like it could serve many purposes. and if you didn't notice it's not just a strait up baloon, it's in the shape of a wing, it still has to move, although much slower than conventional, through the air to create more lift.  :rock

I second that if all bish are forced to fly blimps only, I'd like to see a blimp horde trying to capture a field. Or blimp milk run - see that field flashing for 2 hours. Oh well...  :D

i see this as a way to comb the borders or to help the naval forces trying to protect the oil trade in the mid-east.
back just before ww2 we had a kick-ass airship that could launch 'fighters' (scout planes). was so capable that it found the president on vacation 'somewhere in the pacific'. airships really are good at keeping eyes on large areas.

and yes the 19030's airship i was talking about did crash in a storm, turns out slide rule math gets pwnd by huge pacific Tstorm. if it hadnt crashed there is a great possability that it would've spotted the jap fleet that attacked pearl, its job was to do things like that. navy was too interested in proving the airships capabilities to send it back in for the needed reworking of tail structures to avoid the incident that happened  :(

With a normal max height of 3,000 feet, should be very survivable....till we get storms in AH

NASM still has a Curtiss Sparrowhawk though...

You know Goodyear uses the same sort of system on land.  They used to come to Teterboro when I worked there
when they had to cover the Meadowlands stadium.

on a side note, maybe blimps will show up in ww1 when that side of the game expands? i remember they used to be lots of fun in the old warbirds version of ww1
