I'd like to start off by saying that AH2 has helped me save my dad's car (and possibly us) from a falling tree branch (the thing weighed as much as a grown man) since I noticed it and warned him seconds before it would have fallen on us. When has AH2's focus on SA helped you avoid a nasty tumble?

AH has made a considerable contribution towards my goal becoming a fat ugly guy. My avg. 130h/month gametime over the last 5 years have also helped tremendously in ignoring real-life issues and avoiding to get a life. It's helping me better to forget than any kind of booze, I guess.
:x

The AH BBS has help me gain more knowledge of the air crafts of WWII. There are a hand full of ppl on here that puts out a mass amount of info, some stuff that i never knew. As for the game, making new friends around the world....mostly in U.S, Candana and New Zeland that i know of.
-
The BBS has contributed by entertaining me more than most of whats on TV. :lol

last BOG event saturday, a couple of my friends stoped by trying to drag me to a party going on uptown. i'd allready partyed all the week before, and it was my first special event to ever attend, so i passed and opted to stay home
(i also felt it wasent right to leave the squad hanging at such short notice)
next morning i get a call that they tried driving home while intoxicated, my friend passed out behind the wheel and then ended up tumbling down into a ditch.
2 of them had concussions, 1 a broken arm and the other just a bruised back.
if i hadent stayed home for the BOG event, i could of been in that car.... :uhoh

Flying AHII has had the opposite effect on my life. So much so that I refuse to drive less than one hour after flying as when I go to make a turn I keep trying to drop flaps and have swerved into the next lane.

Well the game itself hasn't really improved my health all that much. But these forums have. I was able to find a lot of good information on bodybuilding, exercising, and dieting. Thanks to a lot of people who posted on my thread a month ago, I have managed to pack on muscle and strength. Even gained 15 pounds in the process. And I am still working out and getting results.

made a lot of very good friends, provided hours of entertainment, learned tons of stuff about subjects I'd never bothered to research before, and spurred my desire to learn more history on my own.

It's a GREAT internet outlet for folks with the same interest and (hopefully) interest in history to get on a medium and share that interest and make great friends with like-minded people. There are some GREAT friends I have made over all the years (going back to 1994). Some are no longer with us and some are recent found friends. Some of these friends (especially squaddies) come from all over the country as well as all over the world. I know other games (like WoW--kinda) have similar possibilities but AH does not segregate people by server dependant on their language or world location. I can have one squaddie in Sweden who is tired and staying up VERY late his time on with guys from far upstate NY, TX, and Equidor. That's pretty cool in and of itself. So in-game? It's a very positive medium/game that has brought real friendships I would otherwise may have missed in life.
Side Note: KUDOS to penguin. For a young guy, you seem to do an excellent job carrying yourself in a mostly adult here. You also have an excellent grasp of English as a second language! Pat yourself on the back and then thank your parents for me! :aok :salute
You carry yourself FAR better than some "adults" in this forum. :aok

AH ingame and BBS have some funny things and really annoying things, Aces High has changes my life abit considering I want to be a pilot when I grow up, think this game can help being a pilot(yes I know this game isn't a f16 or f15, f22) but still maneuvers things like that. This game has also taught me about aircraft and vehicles and how they behaved I real life
-
I can't say AH (1 or 2) has really helped my life much, but the BBS has certainly increased my work productivity.

I'd credit more your insight of knowing you partied harty enough and had something/anyhting better to do with your time, even if it was sitting on your arse and relaxing infront of the computer.

Grandfather had a seizure, I insisted on staying to play some AH2, had i not insisted It could have been deadly as we would have been on a dangerous highway. Rather I mean he had the seizure at a time where if i hadn't played we would have been on the road. He's fine now and it happens few times a year to him. Still lucky as heck

When I started flight training I had thousands of complex, high performance, and multi-time
Simulated, of course.
Edit: stupid phone thinks it knows everything

It made me a better shot with my shotgun.. No lie.
I used to suck at Dove Hunting and then after spending a few months in a wirble before dove season I went from getting 2-3 doves a hunt last year to 8-10 doves a hunt this year in one year with no practice shooting the shotgun inbetween seasons :rofl :rofl
Thats the only reason I can think of that I would have improved that much without shooting the gun

This.
And my SA in real life has also improved, as well as my hand-eye coordination.
-
My coordination adn Situational awareness has been upped since I started playing, I have had a ton of fun and made lots of friends. Its also been therapy and an ego boost seeing as its the one thing in my life I am truly "one of the best" at.

Worst case, you would have re-spawned in the tower.
-
I will give a completely straight answer to the question, and say that having this as a distraction and method of brain numbing during certain times in my life has helped me keep my sanity and kept me from dulling the pain away in far less healthy ways.
-
I don't think anything has changed aside from the fact that I've made a bunch of good friends, and have had a great time flying cartoon airplanes into the ground, while learning a ton about WWII aircraft as well.
You all are priceless, and I'd never give up the time that I've spent here.

Meh, this closely resembles my experience with flight sims since the Air Warrior days.
-
If it wasn't for AH, squadmates and friends that helped pull me out of a big depression hole and helped me through some very hard times. I sincerely doubt that I would be here today to write this.
When I was no longer able to work spending time in the TA helped keep alive my much reduced sense of self worth.
In there I was still accomplishing something, I was making a difference.
That alone right there can be the difference between light and dark. Life and Death.
Which is why I continue to pay back as much as I can as often as I can.
I am a man who owes huge debts of love to many many people.

I will say between AW and AH working with people towards goals, no matter how unimportant, or how drunk, it has to have helped me along the way.
-
Yes , Im divorced now :salute
-
My fuse has shortened since I stated playin AH. The more i play the shorter it gets. I aso think I have made some good friends in AH2 (and some enemies :devil).
-
They have medicines for guys whose "fuse" seems to get shorter as they older....

well when i was about 11 i decided i wanted to join the airforce. found this game, made me wanna join even more and im actually looking forward to joining. its not about the fat wad of cash that you supposedly get or the glory you get when you come back. its about serving my home land and ensuring that freedom remains in the USA. AH has made the desire to join even bigger because i know that ill actually be doing something for my country
(but i do wanna be an AC-130 gunner and fire the 105mm just once!)
-
In total seriousness, after my kids car accident in 2005, the only place I could escape for a little bit now and then was into AH. It was WW2 airplanes which has been my passion since I was a kid. My cartoon pilot is invincible and I was anything but. The support I got from folks here helped keep me going through an unbelievably hard time.

Best of luck! Remember to study hard for the ASVAB, and find a recruiter that you trust. Sky's the limit dude.

Dude, it seems like that was exactly was what I was going to post. Also wanted to join the Air Force for my best friend/"sister" (she was a pilot but then developed a brain tumor, she's fighting extremely well now). Only difference is that I would like to find myself at the controls of a Thunderbolt II since my friends great grandfather was a Thunderbolt pilot.

I hear ya, I went pretty close to your situation because of AH too. When I was still working only 8 hour days I was spending 120+ hours on MA per month. That's not good for a relationship or father/child bonding I can tell you that.

*ahem* "the sky's the limit"? puhleeez the limit is outer space for me! (i get sky sickness when i go into orbit in AH :lol)

I would like to blame AH on my impending divorce, but apparently, I'm just an a**hole.

You'll never strip me of my title Norm!!!

AH spurred me on to do research into my families part in the war. I know of three who were in the AAF now. I have been heavily researching B-29 operations and collecting material relating to the 444th BG, I've ordered the official history and as many accounts as I can find. I've even telephoned veterans and interviewed them. I tell myself maybe I'll write a book someday, but I have no idea how to start. This is mostly because AH keeps these thing alive for me.
