oh wow, nice find. was it actually succesful in its role? the U.S was just getting into this stuff like what,10 years ago? and yet the germans allready had a potential spy drone, scary...

but on an AH note:

i can see use for it. it would be nice to have the ability to spawn it out of GV bases, and it could scout for gvs (and judging by its size it could weave in between tree gaps.)

maybe have the ability for the german transport to be able to equip this, and launch it from the transport to scout an area or town.

what was its radar signature? could it be picked up fairly well on radar?

it be cool if it was invisible to radar (due to its small size). it could be used for close shore cv spotting. (to spot that cv trying to creep up on your base without letting them know that YOU know they are there.)

all my thoughts on what it could possably be used for.

but also, if this was put in, would you want us to have a clear view of everything (like say we were sitting in the cocpit looking around)
or would it have a 1940's film lense style of view?

btw: how did it land? one picture has it deploying a parachute. is that how it normally landed?

Nice try, ten years ago indeed.

i was thinking more along the lines of the predator drone.

but guess i was wrong  :(

Everything you mentioned in your post adds nothing new to the game. Any aircraft in game can do the exact same thing (except for weaving between trees). If you need eyes on the ground, ask a squaddie, or ask someone in country to up a plane and scan the ground for you. It's really not hard at all to spot GVs 5k above the trees.

that plane is ALOT bigger target in the sky than this drone, and a plane couldnt get as low scanning through between the trees as this drone.

plus, planes set off radar.

Here is a big plus, will be vary hard to shot down do to its size.

Doesn't matter how big the aircraft is. If you fly 5k above the trees, no GV is going to hit you. If you're intending to fly real low or in between the trees to spot GVs, you would be an idiot- as any smart GVer would just hop in his gun and blow the plane up with a short burst. Let alone an RC plane that doesn't have the speed or agility to dodge the bullets from a machine gun.

The RC plane will be too slow. Any decent GVer will have no trouble swinging his machine gun around to shoot it down.

They will not be able to get it if it is low in the trees.

If you are low in the trees, how will you spot GVs without getting shotdown? Let alone, make references to the locations of these GVs in relation to others? You would need altitude to see the position GVs better and to relay accurate GV locations to the friendlies. Flying in between trees defeats the purpose of spotting GVs on the ground.

Quoted from a lousy source:

Quote
As a target for anti-aircraft gunners, the As 292 was given the designation of Flakzielgerät 43 (Flak-Target Apparatus 43). An earlier effort in 1937 at developing an aircraft-sized target drone, the Fieseler Fi 157, ended in failure.

The first As 292 made the type's first unguided flight on June 9, 1937. First remotely-controlled flight was made on May 14, 1939. During flight testing, cameras were fitted to a prototype As 292. Testing of this Aufklärungsgerät (reconnaissance device) version started in early 1939 and first aerial photography was made on October 2, 1939. After successful demonstrations Argus received an initial production order for 100 As 292 aircraft in late 1939. Ordered aircraft were delivered in 1942-43.

At least one As 292 was painted in overall red with white strips.

What kind of cameras did it have? For all we know, it probably had a single forward-facing live-feed camera. This would then imply that whoever is flying this thing cannot change views (ie: look above, behind, left or right). The plane would have to maneuver in the direction that the spotter/pilot wishes to see. Therefore, due to limited visibility, weaving in and out of trees would just not do anything to spot GVs. There may have been a camera mounted underneath, as Wikipedia says that it made an aerial photography. If a camera was indeed mounted underneath, it would certainly not be a live-feed camera, but rather, a camera made for taking photos or snapshots. If this had a swiveling camera that could rotate 360 degrees to give a clear field of view, then maybe it might have some value to the game.

Keep in mind, this thing can only fly around 60mph. Shooting down one of these things is like shooting a snail in comparison to any WW2 airplane in game.

I do not see the problem with adding it to the game, it is a fun little drone to fly around. Once you added 1 bomber and 1 fighter to the game all the rest of the list is just redundant. The only reason why we have so many fighters, I might add that DO THE SAME thing as the rest, is variety. I do not see any reason why not to add this into the game.

If you argue that it adds no value, then why the hell do we have so many fighters??? They all do the same thing! It is variety, variety is the spice of life.

It will be fun launching it and trying to keep it in view as you remotely pilot it then waiting 20 minutes to simulate developing the film after you recover it.   :devil

The whole point of having a flying camera is having a PoV higher than eye level. Flying this on the deck wouldn't be any more useful than just taking up a jeep.
